Thanks to Grandstream for sending me some APs! I think they have a winner on their hands! I love the controller-less architecture! Let's un-box, setup, and upgrade the GWN7610! From Grandstream's site:

With a UniFi setup of 3xUAPs + 1xER (no dedicated controller), this seems like a good deal, especially the controller part. Hope your next video(s) cover bandwitdh, range, wireless uplink options, etc. and a UAP comparison - Thanks for doing awesome content :-)

I was an early adopter of the gwn 7610 access points... have been VERY impressed with them... very impressive specs... RANGE is unlike any access point I have used.... I have four of these devices in our office/manufacturing plant atm and I ordered another 4 for another project.... You can beat the price... spec for spec i'd say unifi if double the price.. the first ones I bought I got for half price (grandstream had a promotion going) wish I would have bought 50 at the time... the controller is solid... device is solid... i'm running latest fw and everything just works... hoping they will implement vlan based radius server sign in option at some point...

Your comment is very confusing the third line makes no sense unless I assume you meant "can't beat the price" and spec for spe...............????? Do you mean that Grandstream matches up with Unbiquiti WAPs? I would have to agree if that is the case. FYI vlan is now incorporated into the config of current models from Grandstream.

Should make a follow up adding this AP to the gwn cloud and comparing performance to ubnt. Despite not being wave 2, I was very surprised to see this $85 AP out perform my SHD & nano-HD. These are definitely worth another look.

Awesome review, never heard of GrandStream but you sold me on it. Has its own controller.. that is the world, and very powerful security and ease of navigation. This is going in my new home waiting to be built. By the way I know this video is from 2018 but the price and software now in 2020 beats any of the name brands.

Thanks Willie! I just found what to replace my EAP350's at home with. I love Ubiquiti but I just don't want to use a controller (physical or software).

hey wille, there is probably a simple fix but when i go to grandstreams website and download the firmware manually, unzip it and try to manually update the firmware from file it unzips as a .bin file and the controller says its the wrong file type, and i can confirm the old firmware is a different type. what am i doing wrong? starting to wish i used Ubiquity like i normally do.

Can you add an access point across VLANS and over a VPN to the group the way Unifi can? These are really interesting.

If their WAP's are anything like their VoIP products, I'm sure their firmware is constantly breaking something. Just had to replace over 200 of the GXP-2160's and various Grandstream ATA's simply due to poor uptime. This definitely looks solid though.

Definitely. Support helped where they could, but there was just so many user facing bugs that we were spending more time troubleshooting and updating firmware on these devices than was acceptable. Things like BLF's slow to change status, phone GUI interface hiccups, and endpoints/trunks coming unregistered and not re-registering across various networks. We had even migrated from an Asterisk based hosted platform to Broadsoft, but still had similar issues. Others have had better luck with finding an older firmware that is stable, but lacking newer features and not updating. So after a couple of years, we decided to replace the units with Polycom VVX endpoints, although we still have many GS ATA's deployed and their reliability has been lack luster still. It's a shame to because they really do have solid hardware, but the firmware development is just too finicky.

Grandstream offers the best value across the board for IP phones. Especially now with their W820 WIFI phone and new line of Dect Cordless sets. Yes, their firmware is always released buggy. The key is to NEVER set phone or devices to go to Grandstream for the latest firmware. Set up your own server for firmware and only add the firmware that you have tested and know is up to par. Having the phones grab the latest firmware is suicide. We have probably 1000 of the GXP-2160s deployed that you mentioned and not one has an serious issues all due to us locking down the FW route. Hope that is helpful. We use Yealink, Cisco, Fanvil, all sorts of phones , however if you know the tricks, GS is the top performance/price phone.

hehe, first impression like "i think they have looked at ubiquitis products". that is also my second impression haha. i like that the controller can be run on the AP, good for smaller installations. still think ubiquiti have an better design but this is realy nice to. Not that electronic always have to be nice to look on but an AP often are higly wissible and just look at HPs APs.... nuff sed. This will not make me stop working with ubiquiti but i must say this wold probobly be an interesting alternative.

just an tip for an wideo, i wold love to se a comparison betwean diperent managed switches gui. just ubiquiti i think have 3?? different interfaces for unifi, edge and toughswitch, wold like to se a comparison between these and also outher switches like mikrotiks or zyxel etc... keep up the good work, like your videos!

Not as simple as just a sticker! You get less channels over there, so the non-US firmware is different. Just saying!!

Thanks WIllie. We got the network back up and running. Had to power down every switch and then bring them back up one at a time. However I would still have to work with you to look at our setup remotely as there is some strangeness. I location I am in is Burlenson TX so CT. Let me know when may be a good time to chat and get you on the clock so to speak. The number you have for me is my cell, so feel free to text or call and we can set something up.
