My Synology is getting kinda old and I took a chance on the 2-Bay 424 with N95 CPU because of the 2.5 GB NIC and support for Plex. It's not that bad. Better hardware than Synology gives you. In time, if I am not happy with TOS I can wipe it and go with TruNAS Scale or unraid.
Thanks great video, I wanted to ask you I recently bought two Grandstream gwn7003. But so I will never have the same firewall features now present in the gcc series?
Don't buy this stuff if you live in the UK. The returns process is done by sending stuff to the Netherlands. Your products get customs charges for returns! This stuff is garbage! I was offered instore credits to cover the customs charges! I will not be buying more items to send to the Netherlands! Very poor customer service.
hi i work at a company and it was already set up but for some reason after a call hangs up i no longer get phone service and when i check my router the voip stuck on disconnecting but when my router is connect to a regular phone and call and hangs up it does not stuck on disconnecting ?
Great video - why is so hard for consumers to buy Grandstream products? I called them and they said they only have distributers that sell to retailers and they would get back to me but never did. It seems like they don't want to sell their products except through small distributers who usually sell to resellers who are in the phone system or specialty markets. CDW was the only "normal" place but they don't have the Grandstream GWN7665. Why do they not want consumer customers and home labbers? Anyone know where to buy the GWN7665 at a reasonable price?
this kinda lacks explanation... who manages that new network, where does the dhcp come from, is it like real vlan that requires smart switch, none of the settings there are available in new interface,...
Nice video. But try to contact GrandStream here in Brazil and they dont even reply me.. I think in these as a replacement for SonicWall Gen5 and Gen6 on legacy clients... Lets see if one day it arrives here.
@@pbrigham There is so much more functionalty unlocked with the GCC -- two total different classes of devices. People taking security or voip seriously will use this over anything UniFi.
@@WillieHowe Yeah, but most security can now be done by just filtering DNS, I use an external DNS filter regardless the router, is the best way to keep bad stuff out.
@@pbrigham we're going to have to agree to disagree that DNS filtering can keep out most of your security threats. DNS filtering is just part of the puzzle.
SIGNAL of 81 (POSITIVE!!!). I have this weird issue where the neighbours have this SSID that is funny characters, and so many characters nothing can even connect to it. I am picking it up by running a wifi scan from my mikrotik for pretty much 24 hours a day. the thing is, the signal is between 36 and 81. on the 81, the SNR is 182. I have never seen anything like it. my smartplugs keep bombing out on that side of the house - like NON STOP. 1 of the SSIDs has a radio ID that i was able to link to a normal 2.4ghz name, but they have hidden that now as well. its getting a bit much now. just wondering how is it possible to have a signal of 81?! also, the other day, the lady next door - her cell phone had a hotspot but this SSID landed up in 1 of the funky SSIDs - almost like its amplifying whatever they jack in to it. i am at a loss. happy to share images and even videos of what im seeing. ive been in IT a long time and this is new to me.
Greetings from Australia! 🦘 Our suppliers are apparently getting the GCC6010 in this week and I'm looking forward for getting one in for us to test, more so after watching your videos so far! We deal with a lot of smaller businesses and the 6010(W) looks ideal for those with 5-10 employees. Pity the W doesn't do POE, but at least Grandstream are polite enough to include power adapters in the box for most of their phones! As far as speed tests go I just google speed test and use theirs that comes up, quick and easy to find.
i couldn't make it work. On my iPhone device, it showed Active, but I don't have internet access while I am using 4G cellular data with VPN activated. I think I will go back to Wireguard hosted on Raspberry pi5.
I have a DS218+ and there hasn’t been a significant upgrade from Synology to make me want to upgrade. At this point I’m torn between staying with Synology or moving to office 365
maybe they will release a rack mounted router and POE access points like I begged them for a few years ago. This will serve many of their user groups. I love their router GUI, but want POE APs
@@WillieHowe thank you for the response. I have been watching your videos and they have been really helpful. If my inner network device does not have the ability to set a gw, is there a way I could connect to it? For example using a vpn connection as shown in another on if your videos.
Are people afraid they are going to lose the top tier support for products? lol. If I were them, I'd be going to go eat more of Cisco's lunch as well. Do they still make wifi access points with a self hosted controller? Yes? Well, then they haven't changed anything as far as the home user clients are concerned and I've never seen or put anything other than their l2 switches and camera systems into businesses. To be blunt their routers and l3 switches have not been anything competitive vs. what you really want in those spots historically anyway. Don't give a hoot about anything else they make. I don't understand the deal with the camera storage. If you are serious about your security setup, you have your on site NVR and then the storage is offsite and redundant. Most SMB won't have a secondary location and anyone larger will probably want something like Axis anyway. Or be legally required to have something like Axis that won't run afoul of any import/foreign bans.
Synology lost my company as a customer, and lost me personally as a customer. After buying and setting up three new SA appliances in the last 12 months, I’m fed up with their comparatively anemic hardware, reneging on BYO drives with zero way to shut off their annoy o tron alerts, and after being contacted by and having a call with a Business Account Rep last fall, and being told several things that ended up not being true, then being completely ghosted, I’m over it. For the price of their SAN gear, with their premium drive pricing, you can get a pretty baller SAN from entities with way more experience in the field and a far better support structure.
