The Quartz vs Granite question
Granite Countertops -
The sheer volume and demand for this product have actually decreased the cost of the once elite countertop material. Improved transportation, better technology for the cutting and polishing of granite has also helped lower costs to the consumer. These once exotic stone slabs are now commonly imported from countries like Brazil, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Africa, and India.
Quartz Countertops -
Learn what you need to know before purchasing a quartz countertop. Since Quartz is a man-made product, the manufacturing processes have allowed designers to create almost limitless colors. You can find a quartz countertop that will match any design option or color scheme that you have in your kitchen or bath. Watch this video as we walk through everything you need to know about quartz counters and quartz vs quartzite.

That quartzite on the left was beautiful … I bet it is expensive. I have quartz ( which I love) in my kitchen. In my bathrooms I have granite counters. P.S. I heard every word from the stone expert!

One factor is how most installations look. If I was to install granite, about the only one that I would enjoy would be black with the blue veins and pearlescent splashes of quartz White. That was the stone of my mother's gravestone and we also have a piece of black outside that was damaged and sold to us which we use for a table we built. I look at the yellow and brown granite countertop and splash in the video and it is not a peaceful look. I installed courts and have this nice Brown surface with small pebbles in it. It has life to it but it is not a wild color. And the good thing is that it goes together with other quartz pieces. For the rolling Island and kitchen table that we built, we have a plain bluish Brown surface that is a very interesting color. It looks magnificent with the pebbled surface, and I also have a section of butcher block with the island. That is much harder to do with granite. And the buyer rarely gets to select the slab meaning that the natural differences may or may not be pleasing. But with quartz, you get what you see with some minor exceptions for any slabs in the group. This makes a huge difference in the look of the kitchen when the work is complete. I guess the term here would be control over color and pattern.

I'm sorry to correct you but Windex with ammonia has a pH of 9 which is quite basic. Water, with a pH of 7, is more acidic than Windex. Are these stones also sensitive to bases as wel?. If so can you provide the pH levels we should be careful about.? Thank you.

This video was very informative, I appreciate it. One question that was not posed was whether a hot pot can be placed directly on the surface without damaging it. Also, though I wouldn’t do it, can you cut food on the surface without causing damage. I want something as natural as possible but I really do not wish to maintain by sealing it.

Natural granite looks better to me. I like the shine of the labradorite in the blue pearl and emerald pearl, or the zoned feldspars in the pink or brown granites.

We have both quartz and granite and I find quartz far superior. I know he said you have to seal quartz but we've never sealed ours and it's never stained and looks perfect after probably 15 years. The granite on the other hand we have sealed and any oil will stain it and water will leave a dark spot which later evaporates but it's just so porous compared to the quartz.

Thanks for commenting and sharing your experience! It is important to understand the difference between each counter surface because they are not all the same. I feel these countertops have gotten better because today many surfaces come sealed from the factory.

A one square foot block of each - which one would survive a 50cal bullet? * Pink Sioux Quartzite * from where I live has survived it. It's what also makes Sioux Falls, where I live, the pinkest city in the United States. There is a 3 mile wide 30 mile long 2+ mile thick rock that is at the surface here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. We have large quarries as well. The natural stone is beautiful and IMO harder than all that you have shown and heat resistant.

How does soapstone hold up a kitchen counter situation?
@5610winston
@5610winston 3 года назад
I don't know about now, but soapstone used to be the surface of choice for lab benches and sinks. On the other hand, soapstone is generally a soft material, easily carved (like talc: why do you think they call it soapstone?), and, if memory doesn't prove me false, the minerals that make up the rock called soapstone are closely related to and found in suite with asbestos. Is that what you would want in your food prep area?

My thing is Granite is beautiful. The problem is it’s everywhere, basically the new Formica. Just what I see. Quartz is far and few between, kinda the new generation of countertops for the next decade. Than it will be the new Formica. Funny thing is Formica is also a fantastic top as it is….

India is straight shit. It is very hit or miss. Most slabs will have imperfections from India. They haven't got quality control down yet. The Chinese are alot better . As are Vietnam and Turkish

@@JerryPinkas I hope my comments were taken in the spirit intended. I was by no means being disrespectful or trying to dis the person trying to convey the message. Fact is Jerry, I've been a long time viewer of your channel now, and find the videos you post highly informative & entertaining. Your recent video where you shared some insight how to save on taxes by getting one's drivers license changed over to a South Carolina license first, then going to the town hall to change the property deed to full time resident was very much appreciated, and I hope when the time comes I make my final selection of where to move to in South Carolina, that advice will pay off for me as well. I was originally hoping to find someplace in the Myrtle Beach area, but due to circumstances beyond my control with selling my place up north here, which is experiencing the polar opposite of what you folks are experiencing in low inventory with a lot of buyers, I've been unfortunately priced out of the Parks neighborhood in the Carolina Forest when the builder we originally signed a plot reservation agreement with suddenly decided to up the cost of the home by about 40K right before they were ready for us to sign the contract, so we said NO thanks to that, and now have refocused our attention to upstate S.C. where I think we can still reasonably find a home in our budget, and even if we're not going to be near the beach, we're still a lot closer to the Caribbean where we like to vacation than we would be from up N.Y. yonder. Still enjoy the majority of your videos and look forward to the insights about realty in general I learn from watching them, but for sure, in the future, if I could add my Susan B Anthony's worth to the frey - drop the masks from participants who are offering content to the channel, it's a video, nobody's gonna catch anything watching a video, camera's have zoom lenses so a camera man can he far enough away if they're concerned about no mask, & I'm willing to bed more visitors of your channel would appreciate being able to absorb each & every word one of your guests have to say and hear them clearly, rather than trying to decypher their words through a muffled face diaper. ~JT

@@JerryPinkas Hi Jerry, Thanks for personally taking the time to respond to my comments. Yes, I did see that video you referenced, which is why I commented how I appreciated the tip of registering first for the DMV and then walking over to City Hall to register to become a full time S.C. resident. The issue with Horton did leave a scar, sufficiently so where my partner & I are now looking upstate S.C. where prices seem still within our range for a new build, and while we'd be giving up some amenities, a well built, comfortable, & solid new build with our selected creature comforts we feel would serve us better than paying a premium for a home by a builder who seems hell bent on building to meet demand, and lacking in quality. I'd certainly welcome the opportunity to discuss with you in person some thoughts on our relocation, and perhaps even if there were any options open to us in an alternate section (say the Forestbrook area, which I understand wouldn't be a new build home, but still may perhaps be within our budget) I've tried to reach out to you before, but wasn't able to connect directly, one of your agents got back to me a week or so later (this was mid-last year, when the market flipped into warp speed.
