This video covers the differences between the 8.8" IRS cast iron and aluminum cases. What is different between the 1999-2004 Mustang Cobra / Lincoln Mark8 / Thunderbird Super Coupe case and the 2007-2010 Ford Explorer 8.8" IRS cases. It also covers the assembly and install of a Grannas Racing 8.8" IRS conversion kit for the Lexus IS300 / Subaru BRZ / Scion FRS / Toyota GT86. These kits are bolt-in and come with upgraded driveshaft shop axles, as well as a Grannas Racing built 8.8 rear end and optional driveshaft.

Very nice kit! I know how hard it can be, I've done a ford (dana) m86 into a BMW e36... Shit is hard... But successfully done. Your kit looks soooo much cleaner though.

Joel, you have any experiences with the carbon fiber clutch packs in these lsd 8.8s? The ones Ford sells for the cobra upgrade. I have a set installed in my 8.8 but I’m starting to debate if I should keep it or go straight to truetrac. Cars not running yet.

Does this kit also apply to the GS? I know the IS and GS are similar and can sometimes interchange parts.

I dont get it. For the is300 the spacers are not used but for the frs brz the thin grooved one is used. Why that difference?

The stubs have integrated c-clips when you slide them in they lock

I have an 8.8 rear axle from a ford ranger 1997 i want to swap it onto my 2004 toyota tacoma 2wd single cab and build a drag truck. What do you suggest i do for a rear end that can handle 500 hp?

Great video man ! The aluminum explorer diff does fit into the is300 correct ? You said it’s tight in the video. I already have a aluminum explorer diff.... keep up the great work! 👍🏻🤘🏻

No, I can’t see it fitting. The iron case is tight as it is, no headroom. Also my front mount is designed only for the smaller cases. I have a bunch of cobra/mark8 cores in stock here if you need me to build one

@@eclifton4070 The explorer, tbird, or cobra case can be used on the SUPRA/SC300/GS300 - the IS300/BRZ/FRS use the smaller footprint thunderbird or cobra case

No, the front mounting ear bolt pattern on the explorer case is wider.

These are not OEM. These are aftermarket axles built for my kit by The Driveshaft Shop.

89-97 thunderbird SC. 93-98 MK8 - both are pretty rare but search local yards. I keep cores in stock but they are only for my customers, I do not sell just a core only fully rebuilt rears

Emustang89 they make a seal specific for each case. You buy the one for the case your using
