I want some land where I would be allowed to put about six of these on it with full utilities and have older woman friends who are now alone all have a living space where we can look out for each other.
What a wonderful Idea. I wrote a blog about the women of Chernobyl. Some of them never left after the disaster. They have been taking care of one another for years. It’s really a beautiful sisterhood story. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. ❤️
I sold my big house and used the equity as a downpayment for my daughter's house . I then had a tiny house on wheels built. It is parked on my daughter's property. I am a major part of my grandson's lives. I help with homeschooling, driving the boys to activities etc.
Now, That’s a great life in my opinion!!! That’s what is most important to me. Family and being a part of my grandchildren’s lives. Thank you for sharing your story and experience with tiny house living. ❤️
Oh Wow Margaret! My mother has never worked and she never would be this active in my son's lives. I had to put my children in daycare because of no family support and this crushed me. My youngest was only 15 months old at the time. My Mom will have the boys over for a weekend or overnight sometimes, but nothing like what you do. So special!
My sister homeschools her two grandsons teaching them about God and the Bible where you’re not gonna hear about it in school. Of course all the other curriculum too and the boys are far more advanced than those in public schools.
I wanted to do that but the area my son lives in does not allow "trailers" parked in the back yard. He has a nice large pond. It would have been nice to sit out on a patio and watch the ducks in the pond.
What a loving son you have to be so generous & thoughtful to want you so close in his life and litterally make room for you and your lifestyle (converting his recording studio into your excercise studio). A lot has changed in our American culture with family.
My husband and I just converted our 2 car garage into a little apartment for my mom and she loves it 😊 We wish we had more space, or land, but we're thankful we had the money to convert the garage 🤗
Just stumbled across this video and it reminded me of seeing this scenario played out years ago when I dated a woman whose grandmother lived in a small cottage on her parents property. There were actually three houses on the property: the parents big colonial home… The daughter’s cottage… And the grandmother’s cottage very close to hers. All three homes were close to each other but still there was lots of acreage and beautiful space to spread out. The shared family living experience was an eye-opener for me that I’ll never forget. It’s a wonderful concept as long as families love and respect each other, which this family did. There was such a sense of individual space, yet community as well. Made a huge impression on me!
Kevin, Thank you for sharing that experience with us today. It sounds like a perfect situation for loving families who want to be close, but have their space. ❤️
We have a big home and a few months ago, we asked our son, his wife, and baby daughter to move in with us. My son is renovating their home to sell. Our plan is to build a Grand Cottage in the back yard where we have about two acres. They will live in the big house and we are excited about it as they’re expecting another baby in June. It has been an adjustment but overall, it’s worked out well. I’m looking forward to building our cottage! I think it’s the best to live this way!
Kip, What a perfect solution for your family. Years ago I added an addition on my house to take care of my mother and now my son has done this for us. I can be near my grandchildren, yet still have an independent life. ❤️
I have several friends who have moved by their families and it hasn’t been a happy experience,! They miss their friends who treat them better than their kids! You are fortunate that way. That your daughter-in-law is accepting of you being there! Glad it has worked out for you!
Evelyn, I am so grateful that he has done this for me. When I sold my NJ family home, I wondered how I was going to escape the summer Florida heat. It’s so nice to spend quality time with my son and family. ❤️
The property, granny pod, main house, animals, gardens, this is absolute paradise, I would love this now at 55, your living the dream, family life yet independence, the best of both worlds. Stunning just gorgeous, I have to say you have such a lovely, kind, soothing voice, so calming.
Thank you DG. I am so grateful my son has suggested and followed through on making us a cottage where we can stay in the summer and if need be, later on stay for care. I hope the latter is many years away! ❤️
Down sizing can be so difficult for some that have collected “things” that they can’t part with. I have no stove same appliances you have and a mother in law suite in my daughters house, separate entrance, deck, bedroom, attic for storage. I’m at peace knowing there won’t be days going through things and tossing, donating, it’s done. I have my space but the door to connect to their house opens morning, day and night with the faces of my children and grandchildren, moved from NY to KY, priceless.
Thats the problem I'm having now. I am selling My large home after my husband passed away 2 yrs. ago. After 58 yrs. Of marriage, we have so many collections that I find so hard to part with, especially christmas decorations.
My great-grandmother had 9 children and as she got older and my great-grandfather passed away, she had a "nana cottage" built on the property of each child in the early/mid fifties deep in the hills of Morgan County Kentucky. They were all very poor coal mining people and it wasn't much but it kept her close to her family. I went back to visit that area of my ancestors about 5 years ago and those buildings are still standing.
Sandy, What a wonderful story. I think through the years we have lost that feeling of gratitude for the nurturing our parents gave us. And the moral responsibility to give back. You have a wonderful heritage. How nice you could go back and retrace your roots. Thank you for letting us see that today. ❤️
Lovely story and great for your mom that her family could do that and it must bring memories to visit and i would say a lovely place. But it seems most here are talking wealth like selling big house in expensive areas and having well off sons daughters building beautiful small homes for them so this vidoe is only really about the previliged. Sandra live in a big house in New Jersey but live in affluent south Beach Miami so not a struggling senior. i don't begrudge them just pointing out they are very lucky.
If my mom was still alive today she'd be 77 and I would be so blessed to have her near me like this. I pray that many will see this video and cherish the time they have with their mothers. Life is so beautiful when your loved ones are near. God bless you. 💖
I love this idea. As the parent ages and needs more assistance with driving, shopping, dr appointments, etc, they can get help from family and still maintain a level of privacy and independence.
This is so cute. I’m in my thirty’s and my kids are still young but I have told them many times I want a granny pod in the future. This looks like a writer’s dream.
Mrs. Sandra family is everything, no matters how big or small the place is; especially if family unity , love and respect is mutual among the family. It’s beneficial for the elderly to live with the family instead of leaving in a nursing home. I’m a an advocate of family living because I had a loving working parents and now that tiny house or granny’s, I think that We’ll have a family discussion with regards. Blessings.🙏
You are so very kind to say that. When our children grow up and leave the nest, we never know, do we? I think because my first husband lost his life when the children were so small, we were very close as a family. I’m happy that bond is still there. ❤️
My dad bought a one bedroom/one bath FEMA trailer and placed it in my backyard. I have 3 acres so we had room. He needs to be close since he has dementia.
What a lovely piece of paradise you are blessed with. I love your cottage. Your son's home and property look so peaceful and beautiful with so many areas to sit and enjoy nature. ❤
Shirley, As a parent, I am so happy for him. His father was killed when he was around 9 years old and he made this life for himself and his family. He is in an industry that has more failure than success. He knows he is a lucky one. Thank you so much. ❤️
Yes, yes, yes!! My husband and I just moved three months ago to a cottage on my daughter’s and son in law’s property. My husband has Parkinson’s, so I knew I would eventually need help. We love it!!! It’s 800 square feet. We were so nervous about whether we could fit everything in, but getting rid of so much stuff felt great! We live in Nashville as well! You’re right, being close to family is wonderful! Love your videos Sandra! 💕
My Mom is 73 and still in her big house she had with Dad. She has expressed wanting to down size for a while now, but my older sister who lives out of state keeps telling her to stay in her big house since it's paid off (personally I feel my sister wants her to stay so there is a pool and extra space for her when she visits). I wish I had property like this to have a cottage for my Mom to reside in close to us. I've been through a divorce and in financial ruins because of it. My sons would love to have their Grandma so close. Something like your situation would be a dream at this point. I wish so many things, but bottom line is you have to have money to make a beautiful living situation like this possible. You are truly blessed and so is your son.
It sounds like your older sister is only thinking of herself. Yes. I am so fortunate my son has the means to do this for us. I am so grateful. In your situation having your mother close would be so helpful. I was a single parent for many years and I know that is true. ❤️
This is SO THE FUTURE. Downsizing allows our individual SOULS to ENJOY living in the MOMENT. I'm already arranging this for my own life Spread the word Sandra 😊😊😊
I am down sizing to live with my daughter.. it is hard to go threw, at first. But a wonderful way to live once settled..I am a writer to, and want my own place to live but be with my family, So I to am going to Granny Pod..
Enjoyed your great video!! I live in a cabin within a few feet from my son and his wife and two young Grandsons. I'm 70, but I still work. So thankful I'm blessed to be near them. And for the same reasons. If, at some point, I need extra help, healthwise, they are right there. And still, I have my privacy. Thank you so much for sharing and I hope you're enjoying the beautiful place (Nashville, Tn) you live in!!!!!
Diana, isn’t it the perfect way to enjoy our families and be a part of their lives without losing our independence or interfering with theirs. Thank you for sharing your story with us. ❤️
@@lifewithsandrahart I'm sure he was so happy to do that for you.😀What does your son do as a musician? If you shared this before in a video I missed it. I was going to see if I could hear him online. You must feel so proud of him.
What a beautiful piece of heaven, Sandra. Love your cottage. It’s very cozy and peaceful. I think to have a granny pod is an excellent idea. At least both parties have their own space and privacy!!
🌹This video is lovely for all those that appreciate it. It’s enlightening and really fun to ‘walk’ through Sandra’s life. Her perspective has helped me.
That sounds like such a wonderful option. I'm fairly new to your videos, and I enjoy listening to you., because you have such a calming voice. I thought you lived in a condo in fla. Not sure how long ago you moved in to the granny pod. Im in that position now, but none of my children have that kind of property. You have the best of both worlds. Now it makes me want one.
Found your channel lastnight and i have been binge watching. I am 29 years old almost entering 30 and i am so blessed to find this channel. You are so full of wisdom 💖 And i love hearing it. As i was watching this i wished i was able to do this with my mama who recently passed away. She would of love the idea. ☺️🌸
I am so sorry that you recently lost your mother. Even though I lost mine years ago I think about her every single day. You are so smart because you are never too young to think about how you want to live the rest of your life. Thank you again and I hope I will see you here often❤️
Sue here: I so love this vide, the idea, and your voice lol! How absolutely pefect. Thank you. If only more families did this ... it would bring comfort and benefit to both generations.
Thank you for that kind compliment. I remember how families stayed around in the area and the family unit was strong. Now, because children have to go where their careers take them, we don’t always have that family bond anymore. This concept is the best to help cure that problem.❤️
Your space is absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing and God Bless your son for honoring his mother, this is such a blessing! I believe that our elders live longer healthier lives when they are with family ❤️
My son and I both sold our houses and bought a 3 story, 4,000 sq ft home. I live in the "basement" which is finished and opens to a lovely patio. My kitchen is a counter with a small sink, but, like you, I have a big convection toaster oven, an air fryer and the asian hot pot cook top, a microwave and even more electric cooking gadgets. My place is totally independent of my sons area. I even purchased myself a huge portable washer and electric dryer. Its great and the move gave my son and his family a lot more room. My place is 1,300 sq ft, and I only use half of it!! Lol. I have many health issues, so its good to have them near by.
I do. I have missed my family for so many years because the children all moved away for their work. Now, I get to spend more time with them during the summer and it is just wonderful. ❤️
You are blessed to be close to your son and his family. Very blessed to be wanted and included. I just subscribed so hello 👋 from Sweet Home Alabama. Roll Tide❤️🏈
Your son's property is so beautiful, and the cottage is beautiful, too! It's lovely the way he's thought of everything you need so that you feel at home there. It must be so comforting to know you always have a place to stay where you are near your family. You are so blessed. ♥
Michelle, I am so thankful each and every day. Because of Covid I was not able to go down there this summer so I am missing my family in Nashville so much. I am hoping by next year I will be able to go down and spend time with them during the summer in 2021. Crossing my fingers❤️
Sandra, you are so Blessed and so Loved. ❤️ I absolutely love your Granny Pod. Thank you for sharing. A Granny Pod would be the answer to my prayers. In my case it would be called a “Mems Pod”. I like the sound of that!!
Lovely. My family is planning a new home too....God willing. My son in law has asked me if I would like to live in a tiny home on the property. I'm 73 now and it is time to simplify and down size. I'm looking forward to maintaining independence but being near my loved ones too. Thanks for sharing.
I love this. I’ve been telling my daughter to buy a home with a little guest house in the back. I’ll make do with it. To my likings. Cozy neat and tidy. Downsize with only the necessities I need. Comfortable and private. I like the idea of the chickens, but it’s not everywhere you can have them. I have my little dog already. Umm! Keeping my fingers cross sandra. Love granny pods.
Oh Prudence, I hope your daughter will do it. To be around your grandchildren more is so good for them and you. And to be near family and yet be independent is everything. Crossing my fingers for you. ❤️
Thanks Sandra, being a single mom and working so hard to take care of my family. Everyone’s all grown up, now in my 60s. I just want to take my life back in a way, where I’m close to my grand children. And live decently without separation. Life’s short we grow older and will sometime or another need assistance. Being in my own space and we all get along. And we are in each other’s way. We only have to know when to visit. So every ones happy.
Hello Sandra Your cottage is absolutely stunning Thank you for sharing it with us And yes you are blessed to have wonderful caring loving Son and your Daughters And you are so right having your own place I too agree I like my own independence Sandra God bless you and Arthur
Thank You For Sharing This With Us. I Absolutely Adore Your Granny Pod & Your Voice Really Is Calming. Have A Blessed & Wonderful Wednesday Sweetie. ❤🙏🏼😘
It’s so great and easy to clean and I have my privacy and can come and go SS I please and they, too. Most nights we have dinner together to talk about our days! ❤️
Stephanie, I know. Family and finances are important. I understand because there have been periods in my life while raising my children as a young widowed single parent that I struggled to make ends meet. My parents lived very far away and couldn’t help me in any way, but being emotionally supportive. I was alone. During my lifetime I dreamed, but never thought about an over sixty life like this. If it wasn’t for my son’s kindness this wouldn’t be. ❤️
Would a tiny community work? Or even possibly independent living facilities. Those places could give you more company, not sure if cost on independent living.
Cool way to live! ..... Not every one lives in a State ..... and simple luxury that make all of these lovely ..... amenities .... so available! ... Bless you doll! .....
I know that I’d so true. My cottage was an existing structure - a music recording studio, so it was easier for him to reconfigure into a nana cottage. ❤️
This was so interesting, and a creative solution. My mom is moving in with me this summer. Now I’m thinking she might prefer her own cottage in the back yard. I’ll ask have to ask her... hmmmm. Thanks!
I have a wonderful daughter-in-law that wants me to move in with them. I have refused because of privacy , theirs and mine. Every husband and wife argue. They don't need a mother/mother-in-law on the sidelines even if she stays out of it.
sissy20088 I agree. Living close, but separately is the answer. That way there are no resentments or conflicts between generations. You are absolutely right. ❤️
Hi Sandra.WOW so beautiful and peaceful looking.its the perfect summer pad.i couldn’t think of anything more beautiful. The gardens are so beautiful. The chickens.dog & twin cats or so it seems.the butterflies 🦋.i really couldn’t dream of a better place .thank you so much for sharing this with us all,Have a lovely day. 🇬🇧 Uk.🌺🦋💕
It really is so restful there. I’m so grateful my son has thought of us for now and maybe for the future. Right now it is only summers. We live in Florida the rest of the time. ❤️
Thank you so much Sandra .I’m so very happy you get to spend the summers in this beautiful place.it really is a dream come true.but equally Florida sounds amazing to.i have never been. Maybe one day I will be blessed to get there.🇬🇧🌈💕
Butter Ball 🐓 💖 A “Mimi Mini “is my Goal as well! 😄Although I’m only 58, I’m single and have to have a good plan for growing older and think tiny living is a great plan! I pray daily for a location close to my children as well❣️ TFS💜
I hope it can happen for you. I haven’t been able to be in mine since last summer because of Covid. Hopefully, in June I will be able to be back there again.❤️
Welcome to Nashville. I hit 60 last year, I'm divorced and live 6 min from my son and daughter-in-law. I would love this. I'm going to dream it into existence.
How beautiful, I live small and my husband and I love it. We’re not retired but we wanted less to care for while we live out the rest of our lives. 💕 🏘 It’s such a modern way of living. Thank you for sharing
What an amazing life you have! The property is absolutely divine. You have a very lovely son I must say🤣 Many kids these days don't give a darn about their mother. I am sooo happy for you, I really am. Blessings 😇 Renee from Winchester, California
Sandra. What a sweet video!! I love your nana cottage!! Your son and family sound amazing!! So glad he built this for you sweetie! We both know that we need our families so much! It is the greatest joy in the world! I thank God everyday HE moved me to Calif by my family! :):):)🙏🏻💋Love you and enjoy! xoxoxoxoxo Carol
Carol, Thank you. I know our life’s direction is sometimes forced upon us, but I new yours was meant to be, in the end, a blessing. Family is everything!!! We may have a plan, but it doesn’t matter. HIS plan is the one that does. ❤️
What a beautiful cottage in such a delightful setting . Thank you for showing us about . I’m more than ready for a cottage . Tiny houses are all the rage . I would like a tad more room than a tiny house offers 😊💞
Life Over Sixty With Sandra so agree having outside space in a warm climate in particular is important . I’m a lover of porches and decks , use mine every day . 💞
What a gorgeous old house. Then your space. My sons have Penthouse. Still playboys yet. Very built up but not far from work, 30 minutes walk to work. My youngest refuses to drive. He walks my oldest has a car. Very different people. Sandra thats beautiful. Sophi is a happy camper too. xxx 💞❤💕🐕🐾🐾
Angela, New generation. It’s okay. My son is 50 and began in an apartment. Brett lives in an apartment in Chicago and has never lived in a house. My middle daughter started in an apartment and now has a farm. Everyone has a journey. Your sons are still having fun. ❤️
@@lifewithsandrahart lol yes, i suppose luckily we where young when we had our boys. They are a double comedy act, 5 years apart. Best of friends. I was worried years ago that bond might not last. But stronger than ever. Love them to bits as we all do. Thankyou Sandra. xxx 💞❤💕🐶🐾🐾
Beautiful ! Great to see this , as my daughter is expecting , & I plan to move to her town ( currently 3 hours away !) . Seeing this video just affirms for me that momentum for my new journey is building !
I love your message and your lifestyle. It’s so good to see a retired person still sharing the gifts they learned through life and career. So glad I “found” your channel on You Tube!
Awwwww what a charming lovely place Sandra!!! Beautiful!! Chickens and so much nature. I think I’d love a granny pod! I need more land so my mom could have one! Love it!!🥰
Hi Sandra, Your Granny pod is just as I new it would be. A reflection of you, cozy, comforting and close to family ...the most important thing. Having a porch is so special. Just to have a private space where you can work, edit and yet when you need a break you have the beauty of those gorgeous grounds. Butterball is so adorable!! Our son is talented like yours and has gutted and remodeled several homes and I’m seriously considering having him build a granny pod for me for visits and then it would be ready when I retire. Thanks so much for sharing this precious space. Sending love and hugs.....Sherry
Sherry, Please do that!! I never even thought of a cottage until my son asked me if I would like one. I jumped for joy at the thought of spending summers with them away from the Florida heat. He said it would also be for later on if I needed to be there full time. I really do enjoy that porch because it allows me that extra space with nature all around. Sherry, it really is the best alternative to spending time with you family and preparing for the future. ❤️
You are very blessed that your son is so loving and thoughtful. Your cottage is beautiful and having all the beautiful outside area is wonderful! I love the chickens. It's so nice to have fresh eggs every day!
If I was fortunate enough to have some land on which to build a granny pod, I'd love it. Where I live one can barely afford a small slice of property if they are blessed. I'm grateful for what I do have and I think you have a beautiful granny pod and surroundings. You are blessed to have the best of both worlds, living in South Beach to Nashville.
I say that everyday. I never thought about such a thing until my son suggested turning his old studio into a place for me whenever I needed it. I was grateful just to be living in Florida, so this is a very special perk in my winter years. ❤️
I don’t have this kind of money, either, so I completely agree. I just happen to have a successful son and daughter in law who don’t mind having me around. If it weren’t for them, this would not have happened. I do know I am blessed. ❤️
Thank you for sharing your little sanctuary on your son's property. Beautiful. I've so enjoyed your videos while you're there. You're not too far from me in the smoky mountains of NC. I'm not by my kids or grandchildren, that would truly be treasure on earth.
