Hi I hope you can help me….I’m attempting to make my first skirt a long one for my daughter. I made very large squares about 7 rows using a 5 hook and they’re about 6 1/2 long . Her waist is 30 hips are 36 do I need to increase how do I do this? Also can I make one wide piece as in 8 squares in a row and fold over to sew in seam in back? Or do I have to make 2 sewerage pieces to sew all together I’m so frustrated lol
Hi 😘 Hope I'm not too late to help you! When I was making this skirt for myself I had about 41 in hips and 31 in waist so 10 inches of difference. I made it as wide as my hips and just made a ribbing in my waist and it was perfect. Now I'm 30 weeks pregnant and still wearing this skirt! 😂 So increases are not necessary. But if you really want to do them, I would recommend you to make the skirt as wide as her hips and later after joining everything, make a round of decreases on the top, before making a ribbing. About the seam - it doesn't matter if you make one seam in back or two on the sides - if you make the seams the same way as you joined the squares, you will not even notice when they were 😉 If you need some more help or have doubts, you can always send me an e-mail toffeefields@gmail.com or a message on Instagram @toffeefields 😉
You can use so many squares as I did, adjusting just the size of square. Check how many inches/cm you have around your hips and divide it into 8 - this should be the width of one square. Now just start to make a granny with yarn + hook you want and after every round measure your square until you reach the width you calculated. Hope it's clear 😅
