Over more than 100 years, Gränsfors Bruks AB has built up a business based around handcrafted axes and axe expertise, with a focus on quality and environmental responsibility. Today, 30 people work here in production and sales. 80 percent of the production is exported to 30 countries.
When it comes to the quality and feel of the axes, much depends on the experience and skill of the individual craftsman. Each axe is signed with the smith’s initials as a guarantee of quality.
The company is located in the Swedish village of Gränsfors in northern Hälsingland, around 10 km west of the E4 motorway, between Hudiksvall and Sundsvall. The forge sits at the heart of the village and you can hear the rhythmic pounding as you approach.

Not really. Products usually are super high quality. The crux is that they are cheap. Thus people dont value them, dont take care of them and think they are of bad quality. If you would use a gransfors axe like you would use a 5 dollar hardware store axe, it would behave exactly the same, but you dont Becuase it did cost 150 dollars. If you on the other hand treat your 5 dollar axe like ti cost 150 dollars, it will magically become a high quality product as well.

@@peteraugust5295 you’re 100 wrong hahaha nobody who knows axes will approuve. You can take a inexpensive axe and make it better for you taste but you just can’t compare gransfors to a 5$ axe. It’s like saying that a civic will do the same job as a mercedes. Can make the civic better. But it’ll never be a mercedes

So what do you do with your axes? I found that most people who lecture about how much butter hultafors, gransfors and what ot are hardly use their axe for anything but oiling it and feelig like a lumberjack while oiling their hipster beards. On the other hand I know dozents if not hundreds of forestry workers who use their axes Day in Day out and would not think a second about switching to an overprized axe with someones initials in it. So: hahahhahahahahahaha you are wrong hahahhahaha

@@peteraugust5295 these axes are made for camping/hicking/bushcrafting. It’s not an heavy duty lumberjack tool. Lumberjack these days use chainsaws for big trees. @@gtrul3s387 Sine my comment apparently got deleted by snowflake youtube I try it again: I dont care what you do with your axe or what you use it for. It is of zero relevance to me. You are most certainly exactly one of those guys I am talking about, who lectures about the quality of certain axes but uses his axe like once every leap year. Literally every Forestworker I know that is not driving a harvester brings an axe to the forest. And literally none of them brings a hultafors or a gransfors for the single reason of them not having any significant advantage over other axes. Also you might want to look into the product portfolio of basically ANY Axe producer in the world, because just like Hultafors and Gransfors they make much more than camping axes for beared hipsters like you seem to be one. So please dont stress my nerves any more and vanish in the wind like the fart that you are :)

Noticed that GB has recently stopped using the 3-prong retaining pin in their axe handles. Does anyone else feel that they should bring the retaining pin back? The company statement is that they are trying to "save unnecessary resources", due to environmental commitment, and that the retaining pin "is not really necessary" to help improve the handle/head fit longevity. Well, I still have a concern about that... If this design was good enough for them to use it for over 100 years, and helped GB build a reputation for "quality" (especially regarding how much service an axe would give before the handle would loosen-up), then why the heck would they suddenly change things? I just noticed that in this 2016 video, the retaining pin is clearly visible in the top of the axe handle on some of the axes, but now suddenly they want to save a couple pennies and stop using it? In fact, in some re-handling videos, it is noted that GB includes in the handle replacement kit THE VERY RETAINING PIN that they, for some reason, don't now want to include in the finished axes. Does anyone else feel that GB should go back to producing their axes the way they did before, which helped them build their reputation?

I mean 50 years ago axes were permabonded with a wood wedge underneath, i can't say for sure, but they probably only used wood wedges 100 years ago or a simpler step wedge since a barrel wedge or the fancy one they use wouldn't be as simple to make back then. And either way it's almost better to just use a wood wedge since you can always pound a steel one in when the handle goes loose

I have 3 GB axes and all are amazing and they are looked after like an antique heirloom but they are used as a tool effectively. However my 1st GB axe is the Small Hatchet. It was bought for me by my Daughter. Approx 4 years of use as my Bushcraft axe it chipped on the corner. My advice is to store your receipt like the Crown Jewels as no repair or warranty work will be done without it, as my Daughter has moved house and has lost the receipt. Yes they are good but they do and can fail, it has spoilt the look of such a neat small axe and I'm more careful when I use it as I don't want more chips developing.
