Wes, I've asked the question before and you didn't answer me, I'm curious as to when you're going to have the big baler competition or comparison between the John Deere L340, Krone 1290 HDP II and your New Holland BB340.
@sstroh08
@sstroh08 9 лет назад
we have a new holland 164 4 rotor job that has worked great for years, had it rebuilt last year from everything getting loose inside but has been flawless otherwise, that thing looks wayyyyy heavier then ours is for whatever reason I don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing, but yea totally agree makes no sense trying to ted that, me don't ted hay this time of year anymore period and it's generally triple the thickness of that idk why you would even waste the diesel to cut that and maybe get 3 or 4 round bales probably be lucky to get 2 of your big squares, to each their own I guess...

That lawn is tall to my Woods F-23 and I would be recomending it should be mowed. Alas it isnt a lawn now is it. When I say tall, I mean it is the correct height for mowing. Overgrown is what Wes wants for doing his work.

You could make more hay from my backyard yard = 1acre! HAY?! My yard looks like that AFTER I mow it! I bet it'd take less fuel to drive to GA to bale my yard than you'd use trying to get a bale off that field! BTW: Love your vids, I don't know why, I used to help my cuz farm and bale hay. I guess it's just watching someone else work really, really hard! Got smart...computer geek...really old computer geek. Body's worn out, hate to think what shape it'd be in had I gone in farmin' with my cuz. All of my farmer friends my age, are bald/gray, sun-wrinkled, and their bodies are shot to hell!

This other guy that's supposed to make hay in that very field presumably he's a farmer too, so I deduct he already knows everything you have explained in the video, so him knowing there is no possibility of getting anything out of that field he's probably made plans to get there before you do the following day and remove that beautiful stacked pile of bales himself. He would call that "Finder's Keeper" (LOL) oops, sorry, not funny.

I have a question on baleing.... is the first of a new baler often a junk loose bale.... the reason I ask is if I understand correctly the bale or two before the current bale is pinched to give " back pressure " for creating the current bale right? so the first bale or two would be loose right ???

Well I had an idea what a tedder did, looked it up on sure enough it does what I thought! Fella wants to brag to the other racehorse owners that he had to step in because you weren't getting the job done.

We operate both a kuhn and a massey (fella) tedder. The kuhn was the main tedder but was getting unreliable so we bought the massey to take over the majority of work and it is a far better tedder than the kuhn. Its about 4 years old now and still has all the original tines.

I get people that call me all the time to bale there short places like that all they end up wanting is there place cleaned up so they don't have any money in it to mow it. That's when I put a min $ on the job to where I cover my wear n tear and diesel. Most will say no and get a shredder lol..... Great video on the Tedder I think there bout useless too, I hardly ever even have the need for one. Here in Texas we can normally cut one day then bale the next day it so hot and dry.

If they are planning to use that field for parking or horse riding you would think that they'd want the grass a little longer so as not to stir up a lot of dust or leave ruts in the dirt.

have you thought of a mower conditioner with spreader bar, bought a new to us krone with it this year and im not joking it literally speeds up drying a day by itself (crop is spread out straight away so dries to its full potential from the get go instead of waiting to be ted out after finishing mowing/mostly mowed field) oh ie it saves us fuel/labour and time of another tractor and tedder

massey tedders and mowers are built by fella of germany a company owned by Agco they are well built to cope with heavy european crops, over here they are all mounted on the 3 point hitch over in the USA they are all trailed dont no why? Exellent vids as always! cant wait for your demo balers. cheers from UK
@super6954
@super6954 9 лет назад
+harrisharvester Hi I was born in the u.k and now farm in Canada. The reason a lot of equipment is trailed here is there are still a lot of even newer tractors that don't have 3 point hitches fitted. from say around 80 - 200 hp front wheel drive tractors and 3 point hitch has only really started taking off in the last 15 years or so here in North america (Canada in particular) there are a few more like JD 4020 and 1155 massey types and newer with 3 point in the U.S.A but still not as many as U.K and Europe.
@TheZwerfer14
@TheZwerfer14 9 лет назад
+super6954 It is maybe also because for example in canada and the us they dont have 3 to 4 meter disc cultivators like we do in europe.... its all bigger and wider and cant be lifted in the 3 point hitch. One of our importers of machines we talk to say its only west europe that are so crazy on lifting machines on a 3 point hitch... And why did you start farming in canada super? And what do you farm and how do you like it. I am also thinking of doing that... But first I have to finish my agricultural schools untill I am like 22 haha :P

Kinda sounds like the guy don't have a clue what he's doing. If the race guys want the place tidy for spectators and parking. They would be better getting it all buzz cut with a big bat wing mower. I can't even see this guy getting anything in a bale and it staying together unless he's using net wrap in a round baler and driving 30 mile an hour, then he might still be lucky to make a bale or 2. I kinda think he sees you make money on that ground and thinks he can do it to, and maybe try to steal the land from you next year as you didn't do your job on second cut this year. The fact there was nothing to cut don't matter to some clowns They just back stab. Got them round here like that They call them good Mennonites, and they think they are going to heaven still L.O.L .
@TheZwerfer14
@TheZwerfer14 9 лет назад
+super6954 You didnt hear his story yet so dont jump on conclusions to fast haha.
@Starchface
@Starchface 9 лет назад
+super6954 Well, I don't really know anything about Mennonites, but I like your thinking. This is not about making hay, so to speak-this year at least. There is probably some kind of manoeuvring going on. No farmer can possibly fail to grasp that while you "make hay when the sun shines", _grass_ takes rain. Why do we have these clowns? Why can't they just do their work, whatever it is, and leave another guy to do his work? Shake hands, go home and be glad you made it through another day in one piece. But no-the wheels are always turning, and I don't mean the ones on the ground. You think you know someone and it turns out that the whole time they were sharpening their blades. It making me angry. me angry with da rage grrrr
@TheZwerfer14

pillsnotbills Sometimes just let the people do stuff that you dont like... You shouldnt worry about everything.. If you are always against everything everybody wants and didnt hear the full story and already made a decision isnt good for your name.

+TheZwerfer14 I have been round farming, , in other Business with a lot of customers to. From what I have seen personally and heard from other guys with whats happened to them, Like a deal or 2 getting stolen from under one customer , cost him his rented land, and his cattle herd as the locals didn't want him in business and forced him out. He was doing well( Think Wes here in a good year). He then couldn't get good priced rented land, hay/straw, or feed from anybody local to make his operation profitable and pay bills. The locals in truth were just plain jealous of his hard work, (Think Wes here again). The fact is he made good money from cattle, and he brought a few renovation properties in town with the money. Fixed them and rented them out. They figured they would get the properties cheap if they waited long enough and nobody wanted them but it didn't work for them! . I think I can have what could be a valid opinion of what could happen from experience with these kinda deals like this one.
@TheZwerfer14
@TheZwerfer14 9 лет назад
super6954 Well my experience is a whole lot different that yours... Maybe everything just works different here in the netherlands haha. But it is weird how other people dont want certain people not in business.. Most people will know what you give you get... But who says that the farmer that is going to mow that field instead of wes want to get proper bales out of it? And maybe he just wants a few bales near that one fence... i dont know.
@mayormarv6470

Will your baler even bale that short grass?
@arwelagrimachinery
@arwelagrimachinery 9 лет назад
I struggled with dry 3inch stuff with a round baler , too short for chopper rotor to reach and grab it, if it was wet and stuck together it would be a lot easier 😓, would definitely be too short for string to hold a bale together, only netted round would be possible
@arwelagrimachinery
@arwelagrimachinery 9 лет назад
if you're wandering we mowed around one field and had bad weather for a few weeks and got a chance to grow quite a bit so had to re cut around or we would've just made a mess while carting bales from the middle

Stupid question: what is a tedder for?
@beaverrick9789
@beaverrick9789 9 лет назад
+Nick burchfield Fluffs up the hay so it can dry better.
@JCB411abuser
@JCB411abuser 9 лет назад
+Nick burchfield a tedder is used to dry grass in less time. When you mow grass you need to get it spread out into as thin a layer as possible, to expose more of the crop to sunlight. only a centimeter deep or so of the swath dries at a time, so a tedder is used to pick up the crop again and throw it. the throwing action flips the crop as the dry material has less momentum than the wet material, so it drops behind closer to the tedder than the wetter heavier material which gets thrown further back and so lays ontop of the previously dry material exposing the wetter grass to the sun for drying. it's only useful in a medium to heavy crop and if you are trying to make excellent quality.
