That looks so beautiful, I'd love to play on grass someday.

Hard to find grass courts nowadays (due to high maintenance and cost) in Australia and probably the reason why Tennis Australia decided to change from grass to hard court surface when the AO tournament was moved to a different location and newly built stadium back in 1988. Playing on grass was a lot of fun and you can do dive-volleying at the net just like Boris Becker at Wimbledon.

Grew up on clay courts of course here in Germany. Playing on grass in Weissenhof was THE single best experience in my tennis life! For me its just the nicest and best surface to play tennis on. Very classy too. Really hope after a two year hiatus because of covid and bad weather that non-members can play again for a day next year. Kudos to Jonas as usual for a really nice report and see you soon in Stuttgart hopefully!

Had a 15minute play on grass with my 10y son here in Greece (new mouratoglou courts on Costa Navarino)...such a different experience!Started with green balls but so low bounce so switched to normal balls...hopefully will visit again soon and play a full hour

Stuttgart looks like a really nice venue and the courts look fabulous. Playing on grass is an experience of life time for tennis lovers!

Yes...totally agree. 👍 One thing you didn't mention that I think is important on grass is a good slice serve. I've found that is crucial to really open up the court and pays dividends unlike a hard court. Edit: I hit send accidentally... So, on hard court is typically more of a switch up serve used not that frequently & on grass it's used way more frequently. Old school tactics like 'chip & charge' become a good option, whereas on hard court one is more likely to step around a second serve and play an attacking/heavy forehand.

As far as i know there’s only one grass court here in Brazil for rent and its far away from my town. But playing on one is a highlight in my bucket list! Thanks for the content

Grass courts are increasingly rare in Australia 🇦🇺 It’s basically too dry and hot for most clubs to have enough resources and water available to maintain a grass court. Temperatures peaking at 40+ degrees (Celsius) and tough water restrictions are not the most ideal combo for grass courts. Courts are mostly synthetic grass with compacted sand.

Grass is rare anywhere, but I assume Australia still has a fair array of grass courts compared to other parts of the world. After all...Australia has a history of grass court tennis and other countries never did. From experience I can say in Melbourne/Victoria, there's of course Kooyong (20+ grass), although being an 'elite' club the general public can't go and hire there. You have to go with a member I think. RSY likely even more 'elite' , they've got 10 grass courts. Regionally there's Mildura (25+ grass courts) & Shep(~20 grass courts). There's likely more, but they are what immediately come to mind. I'm not really sure about other states, other than White City (Sydney), still has grass. Of all those Mildura has the best grass that I've played on, having played tournaments there. Then again, grass anywhere can change so much from court to court, how much play's been on it etc. So, yes maintenance makes grass not viable for the average club. And I certainly don't think clubs are adding grass, where most that had grass got rid of them long ago in favour of either syn grass or hard court. Cheers 🎾🎾🎾

Only hard courts here in North Texas, USA, but one day I hope I can play on grass and clay! Nice courts!

I love playing on grass! It exposes all those baseline top spin players who have no other game and its just great surface that feels so original and you just cannot help wearing your whites. I live in Earlsfield in London which is next to Wimbledon and I have joined a lawn tennis club.

As a baseline topspin player, I love playing on grass. The topspin still keeps the ball in, helps me dig under the ball, and causes the ball to skip. :)

@@Jingoa bet the dipping control is still there, but skipping instead of really aggressive bounce soothes a little against a us flatter hitters 😅 I have to play on grass

Brought up on grass in the UK. Easy on the knees....hard surface to master.

I've got a grass court tip: To prevent slipping, especially evening matches as you get some dew - put some socks over your shoes (it's probably cheating). Sometimes people don't notice. I do have a pair of shoes that don't slip on wet grass which I've used as well. I feel guilty but my shots rely on good traction.

@@Tennisnerd Thanks for the low down on pro rackets, very interesting esp Djokovic using an old radical frame. Also lots of pros using 95s when you assume they all 100s.

I played for 2 days on grass courts a week ago. It’s easy on your knees but the ball doesn’t bounce and you’re always bent over.
