I decided to keep a grasshopper that we were gonna preserve for our bio project- you're so right on the dirt thing, my grasshopper spent most of the time on the ceiling of the enclosure before I put in dirt- now it's happy (i hope) and it likes to hang out in its enclosure!!
Thank you so much for sharing 💚. I have learned so much about grasshoppers from watching your video. Also the grasshopper staying with me currently, has a broken leg and it was so lovely to hear you also thought about this and know what works best. Now I know what to do. And indeed my grasshopper also choose the window to stay. He traveled home with me from the dunes and forest by the sea and we even went shopping because I had to pick up some stuff on the way home. When we came in I allowed him to settle where he wanted and next morning I woke up with him on my head 😂. I hope his leg will heal soon. Thanks again for this lovely video. I will be making him a lovely little home tomorrow.
My daughter LOVES grasshoppers! We are going to give this a try. She found a grasshopper without a leg today! He’s one of the last ones still alive as the weather is getting colder
You mean the terrarium? Yee its so cute! that's not their habitat though, I don't have any grasshoppers at the moment. I just wanted to focus the camera on something that isn't boring heheh :D
Thank you for your vid! I just found a grasshopper yesterday that was missing a leg 🥺 I needed this cause I really didn’t want him to go back out into the world injured but didn’t know what to do 😭💕
Nice! I found a little grasshopper inside our home and saw that he was missing a leg. Decided to keep him and build him a little habitat. I'm scared of them but felt bad for the little guy lol
Thanks so much. My cat brought me a wounded grasshopper. Thank you the tip on regrowing the leg. She is also unalble to flutter around. I believe it a wing problem. Ive taker it out several times to see if she will make it outdoors . She doesn't seem to be interested in leaving at all. So now i have a new pet to take care of. I hope i make it/ her/him happy
Hey, thank you for the tips on my caring for my grasshoppers ! We have two grasshoppers and we are trying to create a perfect happy habitat for them …. 😄
Thanks this is very helpful let me tell you why: it because there’s one good grasshopper in my house (he won’t leave) so I gave him a name hoppy but I call him good boy the most cause just now I was in the toilet then I was like where is hoppy then he was on my listeren so I was like good boy you didn’t jump on my head so yeah
Thank you!! I learned so much more from you than from the guy on YT who raises them to sell as feeders. I really REALLY appreciate the part you shared about grasshoppers changing into locusts. For me that was a gem 💎.
I found a huge grasshopper about 8cm (head to tail) and it was missing three legs (both back legs!) I decided to feed it a ton of veggies and also some leaves from the plant I found it on ;)
When I keep grasshoppers I like to put little bits of leaves on the bottom of the terrarium because I’m too scared to pick the soil from the ground due to earthworms and wasps and very strange looking spiders 😭
And also please reply but umm can they eat cucumbers? I’m pretty much a animal expert so yeah but I’m asking you this because I never got a grasshopper bofore so thanks!
Hello, I am so sorry for the late reply! She may be shedding, so make sure you keep her environment humid enough. Other than that, keep up with caring for her! How is she now? Is she okay?
Hii! I just caught a grasshopper and made it a terrarium and this was super helpful, but I noticed that she’s lost one of her antennae and I’m not sure how that affects her?
is the grasshopper fine without a heat lamp?? it’s by the window in a tank with grass and plants but is there anything majorly important that i need to know while taking care of it
hey i recomnd to wear gloves if you trasfer grass hoppers into places, sometimes they bit if they feel threatend\ if you live in arizona, i recomed getting yellow grass for bedding and feeding them green grass
Hey, i took in a grasshopper,, like yesterday and i'm wondering like if grasshoppers are super active pets. Because alot of the time, my grasshopper will just sit in one spot for awhile, and im not sure if this is normal? im concerened im doing something wrong, maybe he doesnt have enough of something, or maybe my habitat is too small. Possibly, though, those long breaks are just him taking naps? i dunno. if you have experience with grasshoppers, I hope you respond soon
I am not completely sure. However, grasshoppers are usually eating, walking, but they can just sit. Make sure the enclosure is warm enough too. :D hope this helps. If he looks really lethargic and isn't eating every now and then, and you got him from your garden, it might be time to return him so that he has the best chance of survival.
@@Adelaideanegg Thank you! I think my grasshopper is fine now. To be honest, around this time in Canada i think most of the grasshopper have died so...
You should try breeding grasshoppers, You'll need a bigger tank for this and a water bowl filled with dirt so they can lay their eggs and a lot of fake plants for You can put down vegetables and fruit for them to eat That way you will always have some grasshoppers whether it's winter or summer😊
Can u contact me! I need lots of help! I got a pet katydid grasshopper and one of his legs fell off and I got him in like a 1 gallon. I need to know how to keep his tank humid and where to get soil. Hope u respond:)
To get soil you can use anything from your garden, just make sure to bake it. Put it on a tray with baking paper and bake at 70 degrees Celcius for around 20 mins. Then wait for it to cool, and it's ready to go. Make sure your tank has humidity to allow him to shed his skin, and that your 1 gallon has holes in the top so he can breathe because humidity can grow mould without air circulation. To achieve a humid environment just spray the tank down with a spray bottle a couple of times a day, and he should be able to drink it too. Good luck with your little guy!
this is aubree and i have a cat ,dog ,and a grasshopper in a wooden bug house i haven't named my grasshopper yet will you guys vote for it ? i have been feeding him spinach though he hasn't been eating it will you give me some tips and tricks for my grasshopper?
Try picking some leaves/grass that you always find grasshoppers on outside, and make sure to wash them before you give them to him! You can feed him carrot, mine loved corn and apple, too. Maybe you could name your grasshopper aftera herb, like basil, or something else?
Id like to know... do they need air to survive? because im scared if i keep it in my little jar without drilling holes into it my grasshopper might suffocate... i know i dont have much knowlege of grasshoppers but id just like to know...
She won't bite you if you hold her by When you hold them like that, they can't turn around and bite Also that spike is not used for stinging it's just used to dig in the dirt and put eggs in
Thanks for the video geeza, now a proud father of 7 grasshoppers.Names are Mantis,Weed, Aimee,Kai, Ryan jr, Meg jr and sharpies.Very naughty but they will soon grow up, hopefully.Kai really hates aimee, can you help? I just want to be a happy family. Thank you Proud father Ryan Rigby
They don't need dirt in the tank, damp paper towels would be much easier to clean up after since when they poop in it you can just take the grasshopper and hold it in your hands while you replace the paper towels The only times they need dirt in their tank is when they need to lay eggs
Jaswant Kaur Hello! I actually have an entire series on this that includes an video that explains what to feed them, as well as habitat, finding grasshoppers and breeding. Here’s the link: m.ru-vid.com/group/PLywFcl4I0rOou6rAHPfGVbluIr0ValAN8 I hope you enjoy!
I have 2 grasshoppers, i clean their "cage" everyday and give them leaves & flowers, they eat alot btw. You can just grab some leaves from a tree and they'll eat it
I am afraid the statement that grasshoppers in general will turn into locusts under the right (or wrong) environmental conditions isn't entirely accurate. Most species of grasshopper will never become a locust. Of the 8000 species of grasshopper only around 10 species of short horned grasshopper can become a locust. The grasshopper stage of a locust applies to the solitary stage, the locust stage of these species is the gregarious stage. So most grasshoppers will remain a grasshopper from birth to death.
How can I possibly teach my grasshopper to not jump or fly away?I don’t mind him jumping when they’re outside to hang out, but I would like to be able to hold him inside without worrying about him flying or jumping away..
