I was backstage at a Dead show in the early 90's and my friend spotted a random guy and said- he looks like Al Franken. The guy turns and look at us - it was really Al Franken. We still bring it up.
Phils "never for you people" just kills me. and Mickeys "im a percussionist" is great too. wish we had more stuff like this available. im sure there are a lot of Dead videos rotting in boxes in some garage or something. homemade stuff that gets forgotten.
The rib sauce on the guitar is absolutely sacrilegious lol. Edit- I'll never tire of this lmao. Its priceless. Every bit of it. They called Bobby a prima donna lol.✌
The dead were so gracious to be part of this skit . You know Al Davis was a big fan . So fun , the show was not the greatest but the memories are priceless
remembering how funny this was at the warfield shows that fall and although it didn't know who those guys were it truly was a real deadhead insiders humor... al looks like a kid and then off to the senate...
honestly I think just the novelty of hearing Billy and Mickey speak makes their bit my favorite. you get the feeling Jerry and Phil didn't have to do much acting to bring the cold-shoulder vibe to theirs.
Makes me sad how many of these guys aren't around anymore. I mean Jerry, Brent, Ramrod, Davis and Phil has had a couple of close calls after Jerry passed.
THIS is funny! Thanks to Franken and Davis and the Grateful Dead for making this amazing thing happen. Kids...there were no cell phones, no computer internet then! I know..you may not be able to grasp that concept. To us who were there, it was very funny, we knew who they were and we LOVED it. Years! later, we were able to see the videos of this. It was broadcast thanks to some very cool people. Imagine...YOU could do this too! What are you waiting for??? Never wait for what you can do.
This is where I think technology is a detriment - it hinders natural imagination. Kids today can’t pick out their socks without an iPhone. It’s sad. The natural ability to imagine something and be creative is dwindling away……
@@LeahElisheva I do know there are amazingly creative jazz and bluegrass musicians now who play like great Dixieland jazz musicians; live improvisation being the key. It's always going to be fun and interesting; knowledge of past music and new ideas will flow and be born. That's the hope at least.
Al dropping the guitar straight onto jerry wrist 😮😂 holy shit lol i mean he really did drop that mother fucker directly onto his left wrist! That had to hurt lol
I immediately got the vibes of: "The way I see it, Barry, this will be a very dynamite show." ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9onyHA6VRqw.html
@@direwolf6234 He also said "Ken Keezly" instead of Ken Kesey. A joke, of course, both Tom Davis and Al Franken were very much into the Grateful Dead and the whole scene, as well as quite intelligent. But I sorta felt like Brent meant it when he dissed "Frank and Dave" in his intro.
The Dead came to Saint Louis in the early seventies. They were interviewed on the local news and asked if they were going to take (or bring-something like that) “drugs”. They said, “No,” and I believed them (at the time).
