THIS STORY, THE NEWSPAPER ARTICLE:
Buckeye Body Snatchers.
January 19, 1881 - Report reaches here that night before last three body-snatchers, while attempting to rob a grave near Gann, this county, met with a fatal accident. The story goes that while excavating the grave, their picks came in contact with a torpedo, which exploded, killing one of the ghouls, named Dipper, and mangling the leg of another, whose name could not be learned. The third party was occupying a sleigh as a lookout, and after the accident, succeeded in getting his disabled companions in the sleigh and driving off.

_________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

Ron, I think that you have it backwards. The wife died after the story was published in January of 1881. So the torpedo incident took place before the wife had passed.

Hi Ron, I had no idea that torpedo/land mines were used in graves, I had never heard of it till this video. It does make a lot of sense to use them though as body snatching was rife back then. Another awesome historical and very interesting video and I loved the drone work and music. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx 💖

What I love about old houses is that the bedrooms were usually quite large with an area by the window to sit, etc. Also, they'd almost certainly have real dining rooms, foyers, etc. My Dad's family was quite large. He was the eldest (born 1918) of nine children. I miss him so much.

This gives "don't blow your chance" a whole new meaning. Glad the grave robber was stopped. He earned the reward received. Getting the news a loved ones grave had blown up would be strange. I can't even imagine. Not sure a cemetery with land mines was such a great idea. I know stealing from the dead and/or stealing the dead never could I have done it. I respect the dead because believe they are now back in God's hands.

William Maxfield was a farmer. I found the family on the 1850, 1870 & 1880 census reports. On the 1850 census, 7 kids were listed. I also found his Civil War draft registration. He was 24 and not married yet. I also found the account papers from his will, but not the will itself. The headstone cost 53.76.

Love the video! Here in southern Ohio our countryside is very similar to the one in this video. Big hills. My dad's family is buried out in the boonies on a very steep hill. So steep that when they buried my grandfather in 1965 they had to bury him across another hill because when they were digging his grave beside my grandmother, they found out that her coffin had slid downhill from where she was buried. She died around 1929 .It's in a very creepy, dark and hilly cemetary with mostly very old graves. Hardly anyone has been buried there in many years.
