In honor of Veteran's day 2022, Arkansas born singer songwriter, veteran, and all around great human, Baker aka Gravedancer performs his heartfelt tune about not giving up, "The Strongest Stuff."
Baker has been one of those unicorn type artist that we’ve been trying to nail down for far too long.
We first heard about Baker's music from our pal Nick Shoulders. He would often drop his name for suggestions of songwriters to look out for. We were eager to grab a video with him, unfortunately, Covid and schedules kept us from coming together. He was touring with Shawn James (another artists we’d been trying connect with) when we found a way to cross our paths.
“The songs I write are generally sad in their nature, but don't expect anything resembling a serious conversation out of me in person." says Baker.
He really wanted to play us a song that was more reflective of who he is in conversation and less "sad" than what is typically known for in his songwriting. In this conversation he started telling us about his time serving and being a veteran and then played us a few bars of this song. We knew within the first line that this was the right song. The struggles of war time and the veterans that return are real. Whether or not you agree with the justification for a war, we should all agree that our neighbors and friends are struggling. Check in on your friends, especially the strong ones.

I don’t know why exactly this is just hitting my feed but I can tell you as a brother it was very much needed. 14 years serving has been tough but it’s hard to feel like anyone around you recognizes the struggles. It very much is a battle. Every day is a struggle. Thank you brother. Thank you for your honesty and your contribution. Keep up the music and please, for guys like me, relate to what we share! I just came across this video in my feed and recognized that very distinct face and voice. I was in basic training with McKinney. One of 2 guys I spoke with or hung out with. Just stumbled across this. Thanks, man. As a non-combat era veteran, I can't even imagine the shit y'all went through. I've heard the stories, and I've known a good many WW2, Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan/ Iraq vets that served in combat throughout my life. I thought about every one of them in the short amount of time it took to sing this song. I may have listened more than once. Some are still with us, others are not. Hits hard. Thank you.

My dad was a Marine at the beginning of the tet offensive in Alpha 1 1. They've wrote books about those guys and made documentaries and even had president Trump recognize them while giving John Canley the medal of honor. He died last December so almost a year. The only thing he wanted was taps played and that's what we did. No preacher, no showing. Just fellow Marines sending him off. I feel like this song encompasses him so much. He didn't care about much except family and friends. People who were good. He gave gifts to strangers and never stopped loving people but in the most stern way. Anyways awesome job . There isn't much that I hear that has him in it when it comes to music. This song sure does. All because you are both brothers who never met but share so much with each other. Never stop writing man. We all seriously need it.

I was a Marine Infantryman did 12 years and multiple deployments, and lost so many brothers over there came home and still loosing brothers. I attempted to check out but thankfully something somehow intervened, and I took a look, and I was so fortunate to be here when so many of my buddies, much better men then I, didn't get to make it home. I needed to enjoy it and make the best of it and continue on so the stories of my brothers were never forgotten. Love that song brother. Thank you
