I bought the same mower about 4 years ago after owning Kubota zero turns. I'm now at just under a thousand hours on it, every one of them by myself! The Kawasaki has been perfect for a 52" mower. And the swoop you're talking about on the deck I consider a huge BENEFIT! I've cut trimming time down to about nothing on a lot of my lawns simply because I have such a great view of the mowing path. I don't use a chute blocker, and never have. I'm totally with you on the gas fill, but I don't have any trouble backing onto my 14' trailer. I carry two mowers and a push mower as well, but haven't had any issues backing on. The ONLY maintenance issues so far for this mower, at just under a thousand hours has been the PTO clutch went, and I had one of the starter connections corrode to where it wouldn't start. As far as the safety switches, I eliminated the brake safety switch so I can get off to pick up litter, or just step off without setting the brake. I'm 5'9" and 240, a total fatso, and I've never ridden a more comfortable mower, even sitting down. Give it some time and I think your cons will disappear. The traction, the control, the speed and the quality of the mow will make up for small issues. By the way, I still use the Gravely original blades.................near the end of the season. Consider another blade for your type of grass in the spring and early summer seasons and you might reconsider that "underpowered" problem you said you thought the Kaw might have. I'm in Pennsylvania, on hills day in and day out, in thick, lush, wet grass for the first two months of every year. Simply experiment with some different blades for your area and I think you'd see different results. By the way, at almost a thousand hours, it still has the original BELT on it!

Wow. I love this review! I had to just buy a Gravely because the Wright mowers are out of stock for 3-4 months... Happy I went with Gravely!

I have a 2016 Gravely Pro-Stance with 350 hours on it. Over all it's a great mower, but I do agree with some of the cons that you said.

I know this is an old video, but I put red grease on the slides once a week for the discharge chute. Makes it much better to operate.

Just found your video. I am buying a new 52” this week and I am a Deere stander fan currently. I looked at this mower yesterday and can get it for 6700 but honestly I’m used to my Deere 636m which is so much like a Wright, I think u want to stay with the Deere. Thanks for the video, it confirmed some things I didn’t like. Randy

What's up Aaron! I'll tell you flat out, the cons you listed about this mower would keep me from buying it. However it is nice to see an honest review out there. Coming from a different service industry with the same basic principal, I believe the deck failure is a two-pronged fault. It's on the manufacturer for not leveling and tightening the deck before shipping, but it's ultimately on the dealer for not checking over the mower before delivering it to the customer. As far as cut quality, I had a Gravely Promaster when I first got going. I got better quality out of a true high lift blade (2.5" wide) and pitching the back of the deck up as you said. Adding washers to the spindles on a system that isn't designed to have them makes me nervous. The belt slap you talk about comes from the blade belt having too long of a run from pulley to pulley without having an idler to bridge the distance, it is nice that Gravely has come up with a constant tension system to take care of the deflection.

Zach Heath I wanted to do an honest review of the mower because I have watched allot of videos about the pro stance and they have all been overly positive. So when I found these issues that I didn’t like and didn’t hear anyone else talk about I wanted to make sure and give my honest opinion.

@Lansing Lawn, 6/21/21, Why would you want a stand-on instead of a seat? (got ztx42).

I have a gravely pro stance 36. Overall it’s a pretty good mower. I had that pos chute blocker on as well. It would stick down about 2” which was enough for a bad cut quality. I took off the chute blocker and replaced it with a qwick chute. Now it has much better cut quality as the chute blocker doesn’t interfere with the deck

I'm in the market for a new mower, I think I can cross a Gravely off of my list. I agree with your statement about dealer support. I may go used but I've lost time waiting on parts with no backup or loaner. I've been looking at the dealer support instead of the brand. In the Lansing area there aren't too many choices.
@LansingLawnServiceLLC

Ronson Lawncare no there aren’t too many choices. I had been using Midwest Power in Okemos but they don’t offer any loaners and they are always slammed with repairs. They have been slipping in the customer service area as well. I switched to Harrington’s Lawn and Power in Dimondale. They are less busy and customer service is good. While the Gravely has deck issues I think they have far fewer problems than say a Scag. I really hope I can get the deck issues figured out so because I think the Gravely is a really well built and overall a well thought out machine.

I as well am in market , I'm coming to find dealers that are in the "fair to good" range are few and far between , do have a gravely dealer that's second close "from a Toro/walker dealer that o absolutely WONT step foot in. Every one knows it around here as well, next nearest is Scag/exmark (he's semi agitated at any given day, bit doable I suppose, but even he is getting hard to tolerate) But I'm wondering what the Scag issue (s) it is , because I haven't heard of many , and after just looking at the VRide2 I'll be honest that thing in 60" is a beast. Although I don't like the stacked plates I the deck with "inch welds" that is a disaster for rust starting . It's a real difficult biz. To deal with. That's fir sure (in it 25+ yrs)

The gas tank location is not a real big issue to complain about. As long as you can fit the nozzle in there and it hold gas is all you need.
@LansingLawnServiceLLC
@LansingLawnServiceLLC 4 года назад
Judah Farms that was the problem. It was on the opposite side from my truck gas tank and my other mowers gas tank and there wasn’t enough room on my trailer to back on the gravely so that it was on the same side. The fuel hose would not reach around the the fuel tank on the gravely so I had to spend twice as long at the gas station because I would have to fuel up the truck and the other mower first and then pull out and pull back in to fuel up the gravely. It was a major waste of time.

Yea gravely not the best on cuts... the best I think that cut well for stand ons are wright mowers, john deere, and the ferris z3x that z3x buy ferris is a beast of mower! Cut quality is amazing!

The Wright zero turn stander fuel tank is on the right side as well .. If I was you I would just Re-Vamp the filler neck then Time is money ! .. For the Blocker Door I'm not at the machine to figure out what but if I had to guess from what your saying a few things could cause it 1 the lever Arm needs grease or the Notch for the Blocker Door is to tight you would have to open it up a hair. its a flaw in the design most likely.. I'm going to Be buying a older Gravley to start up my own Landscaping business. I'm a diesel Mechanic and my Boss also owns the landscaping business as well . he has me work on Mowers as well even though I'm a heavy equipment mechanic lol .. any ways he just bought a Big Gravley sit down for his Personal house .. but the landscape crew has Toro's , Hustlers, and Wright's mowers Those freaking Wright mowers have some many issues there Electrical Sucks ass !! No room to work on anything on it .. biggest reason I'm not Investing in that Brand of Mowers I'm gonna try out the Gravley see how it works out lol .. for my Own law I've always ran with Cub and John-deer but I'm going into a business need something more Commercial. Ill keep my CUB and Deer for backup for now .. .. On the Wright Zero stander keep the Drive motor where the Hub for the wheel Clean and free from grass and other Strings you may pick up along the way The Bone heads at work Run over everything they can find 🤦🏽‍♂ Wright wouldn't sell me the outer seal that I needed they wanted me to buy a complete rebuild kit for $ 130.00 bucks I said I just need the dam seal lol .. when to my buddy Hydraulic business and bought the seal for $8.00 !! lol .. a helpful tip for someone you #savethatmoney

Why do people hate Gravely so much lol? I like them, so as my crew and everyone I've asked says they do plus my dealer is great so that's a plus. Yea Gravely has cons like every other mower but they're just tanks and also reliable literally.

Dr. Rick it depends what part of the country you live in. I hear gravely cuts great down south, in the north it just can’t handle tall fescue and rye.

this guy is a toro fan,gravely makes a great mower don't let his review turn u away from Gravely
@LansingLawnServiceLLC
@LansingLawnServiceLLC 4 года назад
I am a toro fan not because of anything else other than it cuts better than Gravely. As I said in the video I think Gravelys are built like tanks, but when it comes to cut quality they have allot to be desired. Everyone I have talked to in the north who has tried a gravely says that the cut quality wasn’t there. All the guys I have talked to from down south who have used gravely said they were great. So personally I think it is the difference in grass types. Up here in Michigan if your mower deck doesn’t have a lot of suction it isn’t going to cut good and the gravely did not seem to have good suction at all. It would barely suck up the leaves they I was mowing over. Gravely knee the suction was a problem that is why they added the suction baffles to the deck. Also, I think the lower you cut with the gravely xfactor II deck the better it will cut, but up here we cut at 3 1/2 - 4 inches. So, if gravely could make a mower that can cut In the north I would certainly consider it, but right now they have a long way to go.

Cut quality depends on the mower blades, most blades that come with the mower are not the best

It was not my intent to call Brian an actor, just the opposite. It just came out wrong. What I meant was that people have accused Brian of being an actor. They have not accused me of being an actor. Brian and I are friends and I know personally he is who he is. He is a great guy.
