Glad you both survived the walk! Gravesend seems as ominous as its name. Next time you find yourself in Kent you should visit Pluckley. It's the most haunted village in England... though I lived there 4 years and the spookiest thing I ever witnessed was an albino phesant....
Ooh I love a haunting even though I can't yet make myself believe in it. I'd honestly be thrilled to see an albino pheasant though - we've got tons of pheasants round here and not one of them has bothered to be albino!
Love it when you walk with other people, really would make a great TV series. Should ask fellow cool dudes to send in photos of yours and sunglasses Marek in for a post video montage 😂
It is impossible to get on TV these days. None of the walking programmes are really about walking either, they all seem to end up at an owl sanctuary or taking a hot air balloon ride. Ha.
Thank you for again a lovely video and I am absolutely chuffed to win the price draw 🎉😊 I have emailed you my name and address. And I will send you a picture of the keyring Marek. Thank you so much 👍😁 And Stay Cool.
Hello! Crowley Time brought me to your channel and I’ve been enjoying a bunch more of your videos the past couple of days. Is ‘dude’ a gender-neutral term, would you say? I’m wondering whether I (a lady woman) can join the club?
Nice one. Crowley Time is excellent. I am glad you have enjoyed the videos. Also 'dude' is cool dudes walking club is definitely gender neutral I would say, anyone is welcome to join the club. Stay cool.
No, definitely not. I also wanted to add that I laughed when you said his name Crowley like the bird at the end of the video as well. Poor Tom must be fuming! @@cdwc
Im glad this was your favourite walk to date. The 3 daws was also a smugglers pub and has tunnels to 5 other pubs in the town. They were also used for when the press gangs were knocking about. Everyone would pile in and end up in another pub. Also to the left was rosherville gardens. Which was the brighton of its day and londoners would spend the day coming down by steam boat
This is really cool. Long ago before RU-vid, social media, etc I had a penpal from Gravesend. I never saw what it looked like before or what’s there. Thanks for sharing this with us all. Cheers from the States!
I worked in the comic book industry for a long time and I tended to recommend what many would call 'sleepers'. I always recommended these: Pride of Baghdad by Brian K. Vaughn - About a group of lions during the fall of Baghdad Justice League: A League of One by Christopher Moeller - Wonder Woman fights a dragon. incredible art, clever writing, always enjoyed even by those who weren't really in to super heroes 30 Days of Night: Red Snow by Ben Templesmith - A spooky recommendation of vampires on the Eastern front with rather unique art that really gives the book atmosphere
Some comics that I like: Hey, Wait… - Jason Bone - Jeff Smith The Man Without Talent - Yoshiharu Tsuge American Splendor - Harvey Pekar Run Like Crazy Run Like Hell -Tardi & Manchette Megahex - Simon Hanselmann Ed the Happy Clown - Chester Brown Akira - Katsuhiro Otomo
"They've taken my rates to fund lies" haha, great guests in these videos Marek 😁👍🏻 Graphic novels wise I think I've only read V For Vendetta, Tom's recommendations look excellent.
Graphic novels: I read a great hiking book, Americana by Luke Healy, about his experience doing the Pacific Crest Trail. And Ducks, by Kate Beaton, about her time working on Canada’s oil sands.
Recently read the graphic novel Horizontal Collaboration by Naive and Carole Laurel. It’s about the goings on in an apartment block in Paris during the occupation in World War Two. Well worth a look.
You missed lots out in that video Why did you not tell the history of the canal ? The Victorian rifle range The sea school that is not the Met police terrorist training ctr Shornmead fort The canal basin and lock gates History of the Tilbury Gravesend ferry Much more than you showed Inbox me and I'll show you 😊
I'm glad you are both manly men who travelled together in daylight. Watching the route made me think of those ancient highways along which rich people would go with an entourage of weapons-trained servants due to the high likelihood of attack, and anyone else who wasn't a cutthroat/robber would avoid outside daylight hours. As a modern woman without high-grade weapons training or coachmen/bodyguards I'm not sure the route is for me, BUT if anyone I know needs to dispose of a body in the South East I would recommend it highly! Also, I enjoyed the information about Pocahontas/Amonute/Matoaka/Rebecca Rolfe/etc. I like hearing about local folk on your trips, especially (Obviously I know this is highly dependent on the information available to you which may not be brilliant) of renowned ladies/less typically celebrated people. While watching this walk made me think mostly about how at risk I am walking on lonely paths, it did make me look up Pocahontas so every cloud!
Some of the places I have walked over the years have been a bit dodgy. It is more difficult for solo women I think because of the weird blokes that are around, it is depressing to always have that fear overshadowing every walk. I think a 'cool dudettes' walking club would be good.
I like to help this channel by being extremely cool. Lending my cool to yours by just being here. You are welcome. Also I don't know its appropriate to recommend my favorite 3 graphic novels in public. Obviously too graphic.
So pleased you survived the horror! Including my top 10 Graphic Novels for the season of spooks: Emily Caroll : Through the Woods Fuan No Tame : Masaaki Nakayama House of Penance : Peter Tomasi Thornhill : Pam Smy (illustrated Novel) Frankenstein / Uzumaki / Gyo : Junji Ito Spookhouse : Scott Hampton By Chance or By Providence : Becky Cloonan M R James Ghost Stories of an Antiquary : John Reppion and Leah Moore The Crow : J O Barr Ghosts & Ruins : Ben Catmull (illustrated novels) (Also shameless plug opp for my own Malevolents, The Eyrie, Hallows, Fell and Early Haunts)
I'm not particularly into graphic novels, but I would recommend 'Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth', by Chris Ware, which is really inventive. I want to shout out to the Cool Dude who submitted the first of this episode's keyring photos since I recently survived St. Cuthbert's Way, but in reverse (not sure if that made it Satanic given that it's a pilgrimage route?). I say survived because the route took in several cow fields, some more challenging than othersNice one!
V For Vendetta by Alan Moore, Black Hole by Carles Burns. But my favourite is Like A Velvet Glove Cast in Iron by Daniel Clowes. All three have other great stuff as well.
How exciting! You're getting closer! If I'd known you were there I could have tagged along for the first part of this vid & added the history of my family to the excitement of Gravo. I discovered fairly recently that my family owned the brewery & pubs that used to be alongside The Three Daws back in the day. One of them was the Mayor Of Gravesend back in the 18th Century, stopping a pistols at dawn incident in the town Lots more interesting stuff too....but you will never know now!!! Ha! Scary path isn't it further along!! I usually take a deep breath and......RUN.....x J x
@@cdwc It's amazing how fast you can go though when you have terror lurking around every corner of that walk!! You just take a deep breath and WHOOSH .... you're gone.... as fast as your feet will carry you! 😮😈☠💀👻
Walking down that stretch of the Thames is one of my favourite strolls, the few occasions I've made it all the way to Shornemead Fort (8:30 the fort that the youth had taken over in this video) its been empty and is quite fun to look around. I wouldn't start in Gravesend though, avoid that place! You can start by the medway canal / ship & lobster pub instead. I do want to walk further up to Cliff Fort and back, one day.
Wow, this one had some contrasts! When the walk started I was like, "Aww that's just like home" but then it got prettier. Haha! I'm not into graphic novels as a rule but I did get The end of the f**king world after watching the series and I liked that. I love the new mummy keyring and you've inspired me for a halloween photo...
Thanks Tom and Marek. What a Cool Dude Walk through a very Interesting part of Britain full of Historically Famous People Architecture, Ships, Ghosts, Strange Noises, Narrow Laneways, Floating Boots, Horses, High Voltage Electricity Pylons, Suspicious Teenagers and Intellectual Conversation. This video had it all! Well done for Surviving this Journey Unscathed. 😊👍
Come to Erith! Theres a ton of history and a green chain walk through to Lesnes Abbey in Abbey Wood! They've recently covered up some of the train line used to run Maxim-Nordenfedt but you can still see some of the tracks and follow it to the Thames!
Can't see a join button on your RU-vid front page? (I've watched the how do i join video) I've been watching your videos for ages, I'm afraid I'm a slow starter. Please take my money!
It's a lightship - like a lighthouse, only on a boat! Would have been moored offshore to warn shipping, but obsolete now and just a museum exhibit I expect.
