It's a highly flawed analysis because it ignores the human cost of war. The US drawdawn as it happened is actually the best outcome possible: minimal bloodshed, no destruction of cities, even the electricity and internet works. The Soviet pullout started a new Civil War that killed tens of thousands more, millions displaced, and fractured the country between warlords. It failed to protect the Communist government but at the cost of more lives and suffering. A Civil War is what many in the West and India _wanted_ would happen, but all that does is make Afghanistan the haven for foreign fighters they keep fearmongering about. Any time a dirty war starts, foreign fighters pour in for the first decade but then get bored the next decade and pour in elsewhere.

They think highly (wrongfully) of themselves and believe they know how to solve world's problems, no analysis of previous experience, no real diplomacy. And yes, US is physically far from all the countries they brought down, while us, Russia, we did have common borders back then and even now remain dangerously close to Afghanistan so we do care what happens in there as it concerns and directly affects our close neighbors and us as a consequence!

There’s a key difference in the situation of the USSR and the US. The USSR had a direct border with Afghanistan and didn’t have to deal with a treacherous ally like Pakistan. So, the withdrawal was done at a convenient pace. The US had long standing enmity with Iran. It had no choice but to rely on Pakistan for transitioning its war material to Afghanistan. Pakistan exploited the dependence more than fully. The US had a mill stone around its neck for two decades. The US has been left enervated.

Atleast WION should see the real picture America has not failed it has succeeded. America has ensured unrest in EAST by resurrection of Taliban. With this Unrest the focus of Asian countries will shift from Prosperity to Undecisive War planning - Advantage to WEST. They expect India to do their Biding in South East Asia just like Israel is doing their Biding in Middle East.

They were never interested in the welfare of the Afghan people, only in their resources. Power and money are of no avail without concern for the people. This is the bottom-line lesson for invading powers anywhere, and everywhere. The world has changed greatly since victorian times. Members of the military and the military industrial complex ought to find new day jobs. China and Russia are more than likely to see to it.

It is also notable what supporters the Afghan Mujahideen had in the 1980s versus the Taliban today. The Afghan Mujahideen was backed by the US, UK, Pakistan, China and a number of Gulf Arab states. The Taliban had virtually no international support except maybe rogue elements within Pakistan' security apparatus, and possibly wealthy patrons from the Gulf smuggling money in. The Taliban certainly had no superpower backers. Yet, the Afghan government in 2021 collapsed far quicker.
