Thats a great observation. Its more important to idealise the story/plot than the actor. Thats why theres so much diversity in hollywood. Cuz they make sure the cast is selected based on story, not the other way around.

I am 57 and from Costa Rica. I spent my life watching Hollywood and English movies, until one day I fortunately ran into Joddha Akbar in Netflix and I have been watching Bollywood ever since. But the soft power of India caught me, I don't think about the "indian dream" but I have learned to respect our differences and our incredible similitudes. India takes my breath away through its history, it's music, it's intense everything! Colors, aromas, flavors and dramas. I have learned to love and dream India first through Bollywood yes, but now through all I can find. It is great that the Hollywood hegemony is finally over and just one more of all the fantastic Asian, Oceanic and Latin America soft powers.Thank you India for always being a beacon for joy!

(Not trying to bash Mirzapur series but saying that our new Indian audiences love hate and crime and violence and our directors love to meet their expectations by making the most gruesome scenes you could've imagined. ) I think India never makes movies or shows for international audiences. Indian singers voices are too high pitched. Maybe if they could lower their pitch then the West would listen. Sunidhi Chauhan is a good example. She does not have the high pitch annoying voice. Palki herself does not have a high pitch annoying voice either so I like to listen to her.

Your biggest example of soft power should be South Korea. They are selling their Korean Pop culture, their cosmetics, their kimchi, K-dramas everywhere now. And even the high-mighty America is not immune to them. P.S. K-Pop is strictly monitored by the Korean govt. They even pay for the band-members training sessions. None of the boy band or girl group members have any professional musical degree, but they are handpicked for their looks, groomed, trained in dancing and singing, and pretty much advertised as "awesome". Even the type of music they produce is specifically designed based on market demands, so they appeal to the international market.
