Wow!!! That was a great subject to talk on a Sunday evening... Having been in the aviation industry for 35 years, the exact problem is (1) Proper training of all aviation staff,(2) Standard salary structure on all air carriers and (3) Aviation fuel and aircraft spares with low taxes, and allow aircraft operators to import fuel and spares on pooling basics. In just 3 years India will be a game changer in aviation.

Hubli to Goa is 150kms but poor road and rail connectivity makes it the right candidate for aviation. On the road it takes min 4 hrs and by rail 9 hrs to cover this distance. That's why the Udan scheme but again the problem with these small airports is lack of infra and turboprops that fly to these destinations, need special ground systems to assist landing during heavy clouds or rains ( which is very common on this route )

But crazily over worked, extremely short staffed. Capping airfares is great, but we also have the highest taxes on Air Turbine Fuel. Is the government on overkill on this? Ultimately businesses have to survive and only then can people fly around. I hope the ministry takes note of your video.

I'm just glad nobody got hurt or killed. Palki is right, It seems that most of these problems were caused by lack of manpower. There simply aren't enough qualified people to fix what's broken and overwhelmed engineers might overlook a potential issue. Honestly some people don't need to go to college, going to trade school can make one just as successful. If everyone is a heart surgeon who will fix the toilets when they overflow?

Most of the issues are caused by the pricing. If they hike up the prices they can easily resolve most of the issues. But they cannot. It will cost them dearly as lot of people will simply stop using flights. But if they don't whatever they do will be just a temporary fix. They either need to hike prices or come up with a lot of innovation to cut operational costs. Else I don't see the situation improving. As far as innovation goes, I haven't seen a lot of innovation in Aviation industry as an Engineer. All the "innovation" that happened was mostly automating stuff. But in terms of coming out with more efficient engines or such I am yet to see something that will cut costs significantly. Don't get me wrong. There is certainly innovation in the aviation industry but not in the commercial airlines

The blame is entirely due to the dirt cheap, low ticket prices and the massive expansion of Indian low cost carriers to compensate these low prices with higher volumes. Air tickets in India are cheaper than bus tickets in Europe sometimes, and it does not augur well for the industry. It was started by Air Deccan in the early 2000s, and taken to a whole new level by the likes of IndiGo, Spicejet and Go First. And then there is the heavy taxation of jet fuel by the government. The government should first remove fare caps and let the airlines set the fares appropriate for their overheads. Fare caps should be imposed only on flights to the northeast and other areas with difficult access. The airlines too must temper their ambitions and resist the temptation to expand unsustainably. Airlines are not like state road transport services that must be made accessible to everyone.
@praneethjayasimha5943
@praneethjayasimha5943 2 года назад
Well i differ your view Expansion is key to airline sustainability. For example 20 aircraft can be bought at ₹1000 per aircraft and 200 aircraft can be brought at ₹600 per aircraft. There lies the profit. Thats how indigo managed to be profitable by buying 1500 aircraft. Almost all other costs for airline are same for all airlines like fuel, airport fees, staff etc. Most importantly with increased middle class road traffic will increase insanely in the next few years that our roads cannot sustain. Aviation is the heart of future transportation in india. So its important that everyone is accessible to airports. The current struggle is temporary, you will see how prosperous this industry will become in next decade.

If I were an Airforce Wing Commander, I'd make sure that thorough checks are done to the fighter jets as well as the pilots. The same applies to a Civilian Airlines. There's no room for failure.

There should be an open breath analyzer test right before the take off in front of the public of pilots and the cabin crew. Then they’ll be alert.

Snags are quite normal in any flight. Sometimes the passengers not even know it. But please do not blow it up. An aircraft is quite protected and 99 percent it will remain safe. The redundancy is superb

standard MRO rates has to be capped as well if possible otherwise this lack of adequate oversight will continue . . . when income is less than expenses can't blame the airline everytime . . .

Also remove price caps. Let the airlines increase prices based on market demand. That way they can profit enough to pay for safety employees.

@@Dangermonkey1000 sab neta ek hi tahaki ke chatte batte, nothing should free, but everything should be affordable per middle class income. Yes, gov definitely needs to have some balls and remove reservation or offer to only those who’s previous generation did not get any benefits from it. Once they become beneficiary then it should be enough one time courtesy per generation. Until there not even competition we not going to move forward with actual potential

I dont understand why do we focus more on "employees income" rather than productivity and quality. That is how we can shape the Indian future.

Your analysis is really a good one. However there are few things to add on 1. It definitely makes sense to have a flight between Hubali and Goa. Though it is 150 kms, but in this journey a person has to cross the western ghats range which takes 4+ hours to reach Goa from Hubali. 2. The resource scarcity is there because a lot of fresher engineers are not aware of these opportunities. Students in electronics and mechanical trade, from tier 2,3 colleges would be more than happy to join. Awareness has to be done around this.
@gangusasisekharansadaram829
@gangusasisekharansadaram829 2 года назад
I have to add more to ur 2nd point, The engineers from all the colleges are ready to join, irrespective of the tier. Yet because of the lack of opportunities, the awareness , and the education system not being that great for now, (I am still hopeful for NEP to succeed yet still fingers crossed, bcoz it’s only been 2 years), majority of them are migrating to the IT, Data Science companies and also a significant No of them r going abroad, aka the brain drain. Plus the startups need at least some reasonable amount of time, on average 5 years, to make a significant impact on a particular sector. So, there you have it. Please feel free to add more points.

Thiokol also dismissed the risk of shittle Challenger exploding. Upon advice from engineer, because rockets with similar design in Vandenberg showed combustion leaks, the CEO said "show me evidence" and engineer had none because did not have money for such tests. Challenger launched and there was the evidence.

Exorbitant taxes on fuel are killing the industry. On top of that price controls - that is a recipe for disaster! And its not limited to airlines. The entire transport industry is suffering - Trucks, Buses, Taxis every operator is making losses. I request Wion to do another such video on the transport industry in India. That too will be an eye-opener.
