I was at the Hirsch book signing in Seattle. Alex stated at the end of Gravity Falls, Disney asked for more... but the only thing Alex had on the back burner was the idea for The Book of Bill. Of course, at the time Disney shot it down. Fast forward to current times, due to Disney+, Gravity Falls is racking up a lot of views to a new generation. There's a resurgence in popularity. Hell, there's been actually Summerweens. So, Disney now in desperation for more Falls gave Hirsch the greenlight to do the mature Book of Bill.
The point of The Great Gatsby's relevance is to tell us to let go of the past. A big thing with Gatsby's character is that he ultimately can not let go of Daisy, and it keeps eating him up, until his inevitable demise. He had to learn to let go of the past, just as we need to learn to let go of Gravity Falls. I genuinely don't think that we're getting a new season, and that's fine. We need to learn to except that this show, at least for what it currently is, might just be stuck in the past, and we need to expect that the past IS the past.
the point of great gatsby was because of the hint towards the very first password. It was for the original login page of the website, and if you read question #7 upside down it shows a message that says "need a password? fine I'll talk." Tilting the book to the right reveals another message, which reads "It's the name of the eyeball doc." a.k.a. TJ Eckleburg from The Great Gatsby when he sees a giant billboard with TJ's giant eyes on them, referenced a couple more times in the book. which revealed that first countdown! 👏
Stanley's code actually has a secret within it, if you keep clicking it and go through all the ebay redirects, it opens a page called "the wheel of shame" where bill shows off some of Stanley's darkest memories and secrets, at the end of it there's "how he beat me", if you keep clicking it shows' Stan's symbol on fire, and a poem about his life, with the ending statement being: "you really think you won the day, you packed your bags and sailed away, you think you left the past behind, but trust me, *im still on your mind*" So uhhh. What's up with that am i right
It would be so cool to get like a Bill centered series for mature audiences, maybe acompanying his journey to find a partner to help with the portal like each 1 or 2 episode exploring one of his attempts leading to him being trapped in the theraprism
Fun fact: if you keep entering Stanley into the computer and going back to the website from the eBay listings, you can see the “Wheel of Shame”, showing a bunch of information about Stanley, such as ex-wives, unreported crimes, and a section titled “How he beat me”. Do with that what you will.
Also, if you type in any brain Rat words except for sigma, it will say now releasing poisonous gas. I don’t know if that’s just what happens sometimes if you type something that’s not part of it or if they actually put that in.
TJ Eckleburg code came from the 'The One True Intelligence Test' specifically question VII on page 3 of the test. It looks like a square of lines, but if you tilt the book both vertically and horizontally, it reads "Need a password? Fine I'll talk. It's the name of the eyeball doc" and lo and behold, TJ Eckleburg is the optometrist in Great Gatsby
TJ Eckleburg was also an important symbol in that story. As my English teacher put it, his billboard with the eyes represented the watchful eyes of god, judging the citizens of New York and their actions. Sorta makes you think, doesn’t it?
On the straw pages there's riddles hinting at it too. One is something along the lines of "a doctor of a different kind who wants to make his patient blind" Lines up according to someone I know who actually liked the great Gatsby, which I didn't much care for
If the “How NOT to draw Grunkle Stan” is the canonical reason why Bill returns in a potential season 3, the fanbase will be split on whether or not bringing in “the real world” was the right idea for the franchise.
If you put Robbie it shows a text conversation between him and thompson, and at the end it states that he summoned back bill and has a picture of them running from him
I think that T.J. Eckleburg being the password is interesting on a level based on one of the chapters from the book. The silly straws page spread contains a coded rhyme that implies Bill was basically lobotomized out of his ability to see the third dimension as a child by a doctor hired by his parents, who tricked him into drinking a mind-altering solution by using something Bill loved, silly straws. T.J. Eckleburg would represent that doctor. If you type his name into the computer on the website again, it says, "NEVER MENTION THAT NAME AGAIN." Maybe that's why Bill got so uncomfortable and interrupted the Great Gatsby excerpt...
I’m sure it was a slow process and he caught on at some point and went “aye fuck y’all” then went on to show everyone the 3rd dimension at some point, lost control, and then goes his entire dimension destroyed.
If you type "I'M STILL ON YOUR MIND" you get a video of Stan on a boat! Likely with Ford. And if you type in "Stan" multiple times, each result will give you something different! And you're correct! Bill is in fact still in Stan's mind as confirmed on the website 😭
At the very end of the string of "Stan" codes you get Bill basically freaking out and writing a whole poem about how much "Stan sucks". Through decoding some cyphers a bit earlier he basically tells us that when he closes his eyes, he can still see through the eyes of every person he has ever possessed
@@cawareyoudoin7379 I would assume it's anyone who he has possessed or made deals with. We know it's not killed or eaten cause we see Stan's vision through Bill's POV through the other code (and yes it's Bill's POV cause everything we type gives us either a neutral document or a direct response from Bill, like Dipper's code for example)
if you put "skibidi", or "gyatt" the computer says "Life privelieges revoked, releasing poison gas" edit: this got way more damn attention than needed holy crap thanks for 2.9k likes.
Keep typing in Stanley! It goes a lot deeper than the brass knuckles! Also, the website isn't the end of this. You don't just start an arg for your show 10 years after the show ends without something else attached to it.
I think it's just Alex expanding the show's lore, nothing more. I mean people now see the whole "I don't want the summer to end" under a different angle knowing now exactly why twins' parents sent them away to Gravity Falls and Billford was apparaently canon? I mean that's a feast for me for sure.
@@jackxannys4482 Sure but I really don't see how that confirms anything like a season 3 or movie. To me it seems like Alex was finally able to make a book that he's been wanting to make since the end of the show, only just getting green lit by Disney now. I have not seen any convincing evidence that there will be more content other than people saying "I feel like there should be" lol
On the website, if you type in "Vallis cineris" (Latin for "valley of ashes"), then you get a video of baby bill with his parents. The parents are just silhouettes of tv static, but one distinctly has a top hat on, which we can assume is his father. There's also a voice asking "why did you do it?" Presumably his parents asking why he destroyed his home.
11:47 i turned up my brightness and I was able to read the blacked out part. it says "I could kidnap him and bring him to our secret cloning lab" Also I think the part of the date that has the ink stain says 1950 but I'm not entirely sure so take that with a grain of salt
If you type "Fiddleford" on the password thingy, you get the music video for "Cotton Eye Joe." Damn. I love Gravity Falls. Edit: Thank you all for one hundred likes, I don't think I ever get this much attention lol.
I’m not sure if anybody has commented this, but on the website, when you put in RIDDLE, then YES, it sends you on a scavenger hunt of niche details within the book, ultimately ending in it giving you a bunch of pages from the book without text as backgrounds. I think there was something else where you layer the backgrounds or something, but I don’t know.
@@TheInfintyithGoofball Ha that’s impressive. I was working furiously with a friend for like an hour tearing through the pages to find all the answers.
@@malachifreedman3975 There's a wallpaper which is called "XWHYZ" which has a lot of glass Bills close to the borders of the page and the rest is a black screen. Although if you brighten it up 3 of the glass Bills are highlighted and there's a 1 pixel thick rectangle on the right side. That's where we're stuck right now. People have been trying other codes, combining stuff, overlapping some of the wallpapers together and see if we can get some codes or a cypher out of them but so far we got nothing concrete. Also, if you stitch all of the wallpapers together next to each other they make either a portal or (more likely) a fairly visible Bill Cypher presumably looking towards Dipper and Mabel in one of the wallpapers (the last wallpaper can be brightened up to reveal some stuff including a mysterious rectangle which, at least in this case, would fit to be his pupil). The wallpapers basically make a triangle outline and another inner outline which looks like an eye. Although except this being a cool thing, it led to nothing else but it doesn't even use all the info we get from the brightened up image sooo idk. Tldr: there's definitely more to the arg but we're going insane send help
If you were to ask somebody who is the most important character in gravity falls they would probably say Dipper or Ford but in my opinion it is 100% seuss
I SQUEALED AT THE MATPAT CAMEO (Also giggled on your commentary on said cameo) I'd love to see a GF movie more than a third season. BUT a season 3 would not be a bad thing in my eyes, nor do I think it'd ruin the first two, not if it's handled well. But we shall see where all of this goes. Won't we, Bill? 👀
There's a spot you showed after "So Many Questions" where, in the book, a sketch of Soos is asking "How did I get here?" Sounds like Bill is back in the 2nd dimension and somehow pulled Soos in. Maybe he realized that the Second dimension can lead to the Digital Dimension - AKA: the internet - and is trying to use THAT to make his comeback. Just a thought coming from a Gravity Falls noob.
Just went on the site and here are a couple I found. 1. Portal asks us to make one 2. If you type dorito you actively get a jump scare 3. Skibidi is actually a word that works
I honestly think we won't get a continuation, but more of like a prequal? Something like an epilogue series of Stanford after he got sucked into the portal or maybe even seeing bill's dimension before he destroyed it
I wouldn’t mind maybe a mini season or more that goes into a more deep depth into bill’s backstory, like what was his world like? Is it like what we theorized? What about his parents? Is bill really back? That would be really cool to see honestly
Wait a minute. Season -1, Antigravity Falls. Taken literally, could possibly imply not a sequel, but a spiritual successor. Like, a “screw you Disney, I’ll make my own show without you” kinda project. Completely separate, new lore, but with all the nerdy stuff Alex Hirsch loves to inject into his projects. Just food for thought.
This was the most fun I had in years. Reading the book and then going through codes on the site. I discovered 75% of it myself and then joined the reddit to get the rest.
To be fair, Alex always wanted a darker show and themes but couldn't really due to Disney's limitations. However, I think a prequel series or even just another group of characters on this wild ride would be really cool.
Typing in "Vallis cineris" was pretty wierd, what looked to be a baby Bill being held by two staticy triangles asking "why did you do it" 3 times. Hectoring also plays what sounds like a gospel track so there is that too.
If you type "SORRY" you get a picture of McGucket and Stanford at University and you can flip the picture to reveal writing on the back by McGucket. He writes about how he was made fun of for his theory of the universe being a hologram, but Stanford backed him up, claiming he would not rest until he proves it.
I watched Gravity Falls with my kids about a month ago. My 4 year old LOVES Bill. She has rewatched the series about 10 times at this point and she is drawing Bill everywhere in chalk... I'm sure its nothing.
TJ Eckleburg is found in the book of bill, after you “Get Gatsby’d” several times in the excerpt, the duo traveling to Bill’s (not cypher, a character in TGG) shop is mentioned doing so under a bill board for Eckleburg, namely under his “watchful eye”
my friend brought the book of bill to school and at the end of the day we walked to the lunch tables and all huddled toghter to read it anytime someone else talked about something other than the book we immediately shushed them and continued reading
Now we have an actual backstory for our buddy Bill. He came from the dimension “euclydia” and had the very rare ability to see into the third dimension aka our world. The other shapes from euclydia didn’t understand what he was talking about when he said directions like “up” or “down”. So he decided to show everyone the third dimension. But he ended up killing everyone in euclydia. He probably blamed himself for everything he did even though he never meant any wrong and eventually ended up as a psychopathic murderer. But deep down he knows that he is a good guy turned back because of the one mistake he made. He misses home and can’t return. He feels guilt about his parents. He is
All I have to say about this is: Disney did not pay the $$$ it would take to set all this up without a return on investment somewhere. If the website lead to the book, I'd say "Okay cool this was their ad campaign to get people to buy the book." BUT What we got was the other way around: You can only find the site after you've bought the book, ergo: If the book hadnt sold well, but all this was still set up it be a huge waste of cash. There has to be something that Disney as a for-profit corporation is getting out of this; and as stated it isnt book sales. So what ARE they building hype for? What is Disney planning to put out that they allowed spending all this money. Weird Al may be cheap relative to disney's pocket book... but even Grunkle Stan would call Disney out for how they are with money. So no, this is going... somewhere. I wont say to what exactly, but there is something coming of this or Alex Hirsch is somehow a master of getting Disney to open their wallets for no return.
I think the main thing a 3rd season of Gravity Falls would have to do is find a plausible way for Bill to come back that would drive the plot. Something like it's a few years later, Dipper and Mabel are back at Gravity Falls as adults and Bill is in Grunkle Stan's mind messing with him. They have to find a way to get Bill safely out of his mind before Bill finds a way out and starts another Weirdmaggedon. Maybe make it a higher rated show and go into stuff that's quite a bit darker. Then you could have the Pines venture into the Nightmare realm and have some borderline disturbing stuff.
i love how Alex Hirsch or his team probably hit up every even remotely famous person connected with words lik "weird" "conspiracy" theory" and were like "yo, dude, i have a fucking amazing idea that i need you for"
god i love this. flash back to my freshman year of hs where i learned ciphers for the book and taught my friend so we could communicate on school email lol
Unrelated to everything but I found this randomly (though I love theories and Gravity Falls, so great video) and I just gotta say you've got a great voice! I really enjoyed listening to you talk! 10/10 will do again
I was looking at the website and if you type bill into the search bar it takes you to a wiki about- triangles.... And also NEVER TYPE BABY BILL INTO THE SEARCH BAR
With this demon triangle ahh book, more fans than ever screamed their hearts out with a triumphant *”SEAOSN 3 CONFIRMED!”* but I agree that we don’t need it. Maybe a little extra season that showcases the wacky stuff that happened after they left. Maybe a season dedicated to show what stanfords been doing asides from a book
Got the book day of release. I haven't camped out for a book since my old fandom days but it was worth it. The book is CHOCK full of references and as of yet, the 200+ Great Gatsby is just-- the Great Gatsby.
