I tried one of these from the first review Paul posted out of intrigue. I wholeheartedly would say, with the highest respect, this didn't make any audio enhancements to the performance of my Thoren's TD-1600 and vinyl playback. I really wanted it to show off some subtle changes mentioned in this new review - but I seriously could not appreciate anything. It was returned as quick as it was purchased. This is my experience, others may benefit, better off spending your money on vinyl.

I just took the plunge and bought a gravity one. I wasn’t convinced it would do much. Taking it out of the box I had to give it a little poke and prod,as you do. I was a little concerned that one of the inner screws started to unscrew, so I Stopped my prodding. I played a track with the GO fitted and thought things sounded good. After removing it I thought my ears were deceiving me. The female vocalist was doing a three part harmony and with the GO removed it tended to gel into one and was more muted. Drums were smudged in with the vocals. Putting the GO back on now I could hear far more detail and all the intricaseys of the drumming-quite amazing. I’m getting to old to try different records as I could hear the improvements it was making. The sound was clearer/more effortless/sharper in focus/better sound staging etc. The amount of improvement may be subjective but it’s there. It’s now a permanent part of my record playing system.

My experience with the Gravity One was only so so on my turntable. The guys at Origin were very nice though and let me return it. Instead, I put the £210 towards an Ortofon Black where the benefits to my setup were enormous. It might have worked better with this cartridge, but I guess I'll never know. I still use the OL the cartridge enabler though.

Paul, first time visiting your channel but what a terrific review. Last week I tested five expensive turntable weights on my TW Acustics Raven One. Thanks to a willing spouse, it was a blind test - my turntable is in a separate, closed room beside the listening room. At my urging, she decided to mix it up by putting no weight on at all throughout the test and she also left the same weight on for two tests in a row. I sat in my listening spot the whole time, and each test was the same, 1-minute segment of a largely acoustic vocal song. At the end of the 30 individual tests, the respective test for each weight was revealed. There was zero correlation between my notes and the weights used. I also couldn't pick out when no weight was used. I am, however, very curious about the Origin Gravity One, primarily because of the novel design approach, which is completely different from the (mostly) heavy weights I tried. I may give it a try, but I will once again conduct a blind test. I firmly believe that we introduce bias in the evaluation process if we know the identity of what we are evaluating.

Works fantastic on my Rega P10, noticeably improved focus in soundstage and "in the room" projection of vocals, particularly on Girl with a guitar type stuff. Fantastic value and off the scale bang for your buck. Use mine with a Collaro red mat on my P10, the combination lifts an already next-level sounding turntable. How so? I think Rega's F1 level engineering and vibration control on the deck itself makes sure zero vibration from the ground reaches the stylus. The Gravity One tackles it from the top side, the vinyl record itself. Get one of these, they bloody work.

Excellent review Paul, I purchased this Origin Live several months ago after your first review, and I can verify that everything you mentioned is correct. I have compared this Origin Live with several other TT weights (i.e micro seiki, soundeck, EAT, vintage pioneer brass, etc) and amazingly the Origin Live wins all the time. I wonder if someone was or could ever compare this Origin Live with the out-of-this-world price "shun mook". Best regards.

Hi Paul. I agree with your every word in this review. Mark Baker of OL is a very clever engineer, he listens and understands. I read up on this item on the website, was intrigued and so splashed out, expecting to be seeking a refund. I use a Nottingham Analogue Dais t/t, a non-suspended belt-drive design which has a 20kg steel main platter, topped off by a lighter graphite one, all sitting on a massive oil-fed bearing. I played an old favourite, Brothers in Arms, which I know quite well. Within a few seconds of “Why Worry?”, I could tell that an already-clear recording was sounding better, cleaner, more natural and easy to listen to. It was as dramatic as losing all the first reflections from the walls and ceilings of an untreated room. It seemed obvious that it was dealing with all the unwanted reflections within the record itself, Mark Knopfler’s vocal freed from his guitar and any apparent reverb, and standing out more clearly, although softer and with more intimacy. Every record I have tried now sounds better with the Gravity One, which really ought to be called the Gravitas One, as it is a serious piece of kit, even though it looks and feels like a toy. I have long been convinced that the way to a truly satisfying system is about removing all the distractions, the unwanted signals, of which you are only aware once they’ve gone. No more straining to hear minute sounds which you somehow know are there, but which are buried in the grunge. Sorry to go on, but it’s that good.

@TheAudiophileMan I don't believe 67 grams of weight on the spindle will have any negative impact on the Rega P10; in fact and perhaps this could be the only TT accessory I would put it on top of any Rega TT, it is so light, I can sleep with this on the tip of my forehead (it is so magical, maybe it will help me opening my third eye...) Cheers!

Tempted to get this, does it flatten warps? Got a few rare vinyl records like the A2/B2 Dark side of the moon press that has a mild warp that can be heard when playing, curious to know if this will help. Also big thanks Paul for your cleaning guide, getting Tergikleen from the US was a game changer for me, followed your instructions (even bought the Disco anti-stat) and added in the the Vinyl Vac 33 for hoovering at the end and I could not be happier with the results, many of my records that were VG or VG+ are now NM.
@TheAudiophileMan
@TheAudiophileMan Год назад
Glad the vinyl guide was of use but the Gravity won’t help with warps I’m afraid. As I said in the review, it has next to no weight. The only safe way to sort warps is via an expensive, dedicated record flattener.

I have just purchased a gravity one as I was very curious after seeing this review. I have a Garrard 401 in a heavy plinth (23 kg in total) fitted with a FunkFirm achromat platter mat (with an Alphason xenon titanium tone arm and a Koetsu rosewood cartridge). I have been using a ~400g Bren-1 brass record weight to help couple the record to the platter. I have only been able to have a cursory listen to the Gravity One thus far and the jury is out until I can do some more serious listening over an extended period. I’m interested to hear of others experience using this “weight” with an idler wheel deck and also if the combination with the platter mat may also impact the effectiveness of the Gravity One.

The Gravity One is but one tool in a basket of tools that will aid your turntable. A quality mat is also required, in addition, to anything you place over the spindle.

A quality mat is another one (and I've plenty of mat reviews on this channel for you to check out). Make sure the turntable is isolated too. Is it on a paper HiFi half or - better - wall shelf? All of these things make a difference alongside a quality phono amp.

@@TheAudiophileMan - cheers Paul. I use a Quad Artera Pre at the moment with my Axis, LV X and 2M Red. It is isolated 'away' from a custom rack using a chopping block and Sorbothane isolation pads. I have considered an iFI Zen Phono and an 'upgrade' to a 2M Black cartridge/stylus. I loaned a 2M Black stylus and that was a welcome improvement for sure - given I listen to vinyl sparingly any 'upgrade' needs to be 'real' and of a value. Enjoy the break.

Hi Paul.Fascinating review especially as I have been an avid turntable 'tweeker' for many years. The only original items left on my LP12 are the motor/Lingo, bearing and outer platter. Sub-platter/shaft replaced with the Mober assembly, plinth is by Woodsong, top plate is a Tiger Paw Khan, Mat is a 3mm Archomat, Extreme Phono carbon fibre arm board and sub-chassis, SME 309 tonearm, Clearaudio Titanium cartridge and Audio Art phono cable. This feds a Ayre phono pre-amp onto an Audio Research VSi75 so I feel that I have a fairly high resolution system. I have tried record weights and clamps before and they just seem to suck the life and sparkle out of the presentation. But my interest has been sparked by the Gravity One so it has been ordered. I hope is does not take to long to get to Vancouver Island considering the distance and some postal issues I think you are having in my old homeland at the moment. Cheers, Dave.

I bought the Gravity One to use on my Technics SP-25 b'cast TT, using an Origin Live modded RB300, with Ortofon Quintet Blue. I cannot absolutely define what are the benefits, only to say, that my turntable setup now sounds better (related to disc pressing and mastering quality) than my high level digital setup, which is Innuos ZENmini iii server, Innuos Phoenix reclocker feeding the Chord Mscaler/TT2 dac. The analogue setup has to be a good pressing to outperform the digital, but when it does it is extremely captivating in terms of imaging and clarity. I love opera, and the clarity and placing of the performers, is quite extraordinary. I also use the Soundeck replacement mat for the Technics, but the Origin Live Gravity One adds to that improvement that brings. My analog front end is now quite exceptional. If only I could change records and tracks by remote control!

I bought the Gravity one last year. I have a real problem whit it, the plastic screws have fallen off on the outer ring, and center wood part. Which broke two of the screws that hold the wood part together. I feel that they should have said in their documentation that the screws need to tighten from time to time so the screws don't fall out. Now I don't have a record stabilizer any more $275.00 and I hope Origin Live will help me out. I will let you know what happens.

I have the metal screws but it does seem they’re free to possibly drop out over time. I think it’s a device that might need a bit of maintenance over the years, so it’s worth noting the loose screw settings and inner piece position when new. No torque wrench settings needed here!

As long as you see the cash outlay as part of a series of ongoing upgrades then sure, it will certainly help. Although there are lots of upgrades you can apply to the EVO that will enable it to compete with the Pro even before a Gravity One comes into play. Rega does not recommend anything sitting on its turntable's platter but it would certainly be worth a try and I recommend requested a home demo from a dealer.

A quick question. Using something like this or clamp/weight do you need to adjust the suspension on your turntable? I have just taken the plunge and ordered a Linn LP12 from Inspire so now I am going up in the world turntable wise I can look at accessories that will improve the sound even further.
@TheAudiophileMan
@TheAudiophileMan Год назад
Well the Gravity One is very light so it should be fine. If you're anxious about it give a Linn dealer a ring, ask him how much the suspension can take before it's too disturbed and then compare that with the Gravity One weight. Otherwise, grab a home demo from a dealer and do your own home tests.

@@TheAudiophileMan thank you Paul for getting back. I asked because the suspension on the Linn is way more sensitive than the Systemdek 900 and the Revolver that as you know is a solid type. By the way I have taken your advice on other videos and opted for a budget Sumiko Pearl mm through the Pro-Ject phono box mkII as a starter until I can afford a decent mc instead of a budget mc then having to upgrade again. The arm is the Roksan Nima. Robert from Inspire Audio did me a new build at a very good price. He came to my house and set it up properly and spent some time listening to my records and having a very pleasant chat. Outstanding service. He threw in the cartridge for free and said he will pop over with an Acro mat as I was asking about one. He even adjusted the Ittok arm on the Revolver as he said it wasn’t set properly as I am keeping that as a second turntable to play second hand worn records on. My Systemdek has been passed on to my middle son replacing his Dual CS505 mk3. I have also purchased a Audio Technica LP120XUXB again on your recommendation for my oldest son along with a pair of Edifier 1700BT speakers. We are all going to have a very musical Christmas. The Linn is stunning. The hype is true, I only wish I had bought one in the 1980’s.
