This video speaks to me on so many levels. Coming from an Okinawan/Filipino household, it’s the rice at every meal, the bone-on soup, the bowls, the butcher block and knife, your dad throwing down with no shirt on. This is like sitting in on any meal at my grandparents house. I enjoyed watching your persistence on the hunt. Great work out there.

@@lessforloans I’m more partial to gray squirrels for eating. Fox squirrels are usually bigger, but I think they’re tougher no matter how they’re cooked. They’re crazy lean so they’re all very easy to overcook and/or make tough, but when cooked right I personally love squirrel.

Thanks for the vid . My hunting season came to an abrupt end due to carless campers up behind my house .7500 acres where I access my hunting spots is all burnt .We thought the house was going to burn the town is safe my home is safe the bolt creek fire is still burning but getting better but we're still not out of the woods yet . I'm now counting on you posting your hunts to hold me through until next year it is too late for me to find a spot further away from home so keep up the good work thanks for the vids I now count on them because my year is already over less then a week before hi buck season

When i was young and squirrel hunting, i learned that if u get a squirrel high in a tree, if hes barking at u and u lose sight of it, pick up a stick from the forest floor and pitch it over to the opposite side of tree, often that will spook the critter to ur side of the tree or at least get it to move so u can locate it

I'm from the Deep South. In our woods, most of the trees lose their leaves in the fall and winter which makes squirrel hunting easier. For me, squirrel hunting is more visual than listening. I just sit still in an area where I know squirrels are. Get used to the natural sway of the trees in the wind. Then watch for any unusual movement. Anything that is not the natural swaying of the trees is usually a squirrel or bird. Watching for that movement is more effective than listening for the squirrels for me.

Use Basemap to put a pin on the location of the camera. You can find it easier plus it's free to use some of the items or pay to use them all. Check your wind and put a pin where you want.

Great video of you and your family having fun hunting. I love squirrel hunting here in Iowa. We have the bigger fox squirrels and i hunt them just like you do. Sit wait and stalk. I only use a 22 rifle now. Back when I was young I would use a shotgun in early season and as the leaves fell go to a 22 rifle. I'm using a Ruger 10/22 with the heavy barrel and tactical stock with a 3X9 scope. Deadly accurate out to 50 yards.

Squirrel hunting is a great lead in to hunt all game. Especially using a 22 cal rifle (shotgun is cheating lol ) it teaches you patience as squirrels move a lot and you have to wait for a clean shot. I think squirrel meat is some of the best tasting wild game there is (if cooked right). I even save the tails and send them in to Mepps Comp and they will send you lures in trade.

@Michael-ep7lx
@Michael-ep7lx Год назад
Not Samong, but generally squirrel hunters do use 22lr or 17hmr. Usually, go for head shots to avoid damaging the meat. Which requires a lot of accuracy and precision. Lots of practice with your gun. The squirrels are skinned as part of the preparation for eating.
@Michael-ep7lx
@Michael-ep7lx Год назад
Samong said he use a 12 ga shotgun for his kill. Effective, but it leaves a lot of lead pellets in the meat and tends to destroy the flesh. For me, a 22lr or 17hmr is a better choice but you have to be a very accurate shooter. I grew up hunting squirrels with an air gun. Learned to make accurate and precise shots at a very early age.

Just out of curiosity, at what range do you zero your scope? We zero ours at 50 yds, using subsonic hollow points. CCI’s or Eley’s both are good choices, but that vary’s per gun. Also when your sitting watching try not to point so much or move your hands as they will pick it up. One more trick you might try is to take use 2 quarters. Hold one quarter with your thumb and pointer finger around it while using the rest of your fingers to form a sound chamber and use the other quarter to lightly tap and drag against the first quarter to mimic a squirrel eating

Also, its a pain to carry around but pack around a 2lb hatchet. If you know a squirrel is in the tree but can't find it, smack the base of the tree with the back side of the hatchet. It vibrates the tree and makes them move around or up to the top or jump to another tree and they're way easier to find!
