This is one of my favorite anime. And Esdeath is one of my favorite anime villains. And I think I've told you there's a RWBY/Akame Ga Kill fanfic. It's really awesome. And I highly recommend the manga.

I get the feeling that Gray only resisted the time stop at the end just for tension, keeps you guessing.

gunchar06 They did explain already in the episode that Gray’s ice resistance allowed that him to resist Esdeath’s time stop was thanks to his Devil Slayer Magic. And it doesn’t really matter since Esdeath won.

Kedhar Swaminathan They said it’s POSSIBLE he could resist it, but other people with resistance like that didn’t fair well against it

Brobuscus Well to me it’s not really fair to compare Tatsumi’s cold resistance who’s armor literally just evolved to resistant to Esdeath’s power to Gray who has had trained in the cold for most of his life and thus would have a better resistance naturally even without his Devil Slayer Magic. And besides all of this is a moot point since Esdeath won.

When you do get to watch the Akame Ga Kill! anime, I should warn you that the anime has an original ending different from the manga and cuts out quite a few things. The anime completely diverges from the manga at the end of Episode 19.

I love how Gray survived a country-sized blizzard, had an answer for her replacing he body parts with ice, managed to counter her time-freezing....and was then killed by a prosthetic limb.
