Even tho I'm a huge fan of the B&W episodes especially the first season, you have to admit, these colors are fantastic.

Despite the lesser qualities of the colour episodes, you see here why George Reeves was so good as Superman. He displays caring and concern, delivered with a well-modulated voice and a truly human quality. And this is a rare occasion, when we detect a real bond between Superman and Perry White.

I couldn't agree more. George Reeves had a way of making a connection not only with other characters but with the viewer as well.

I think this particular scene makes you believe that Superman is a different person than Clark. That is how great George was. Imagine playing two different personalities so consistently for all of those years.

@@jimnolt-TAC Reeves' Kellogg's commercials, also here on YT, show how he could project himself into the viewer's home just like an in-person guest. Liberace had the same talent as displayed on his syndicated television show in the 50's and 60's.

Count me in as a fan of the first season (1951)! And as a fan of Phyllis Coates! Okay, I understand the desire to cut down on violence; but was it necessary to make both the gangsters and the “good guys” into such bumblers? Lane and Olsen, in particular, became more insipid as time went on!

Hey, I liked Season 1, also! Especially “The Stolen Costume” “No Holds Barred”, and “The Human Bomb”(in which young Jack Larson(Jimmy Olsen)in my opinion did his best work).Great police dramas!

After the film era of 1950s and 60s TV production, a lot of the 1970s through early 90s TV shows were shot on analog video tape. Such tape did not have a long shelf life, tending to demagnetize over time. The high frequencies on the tape were the first to fade, which caused loss of sharpness and some color fade. 1950s TV shows were shot on film, excepting some that were shot on TV video projected on film (kinescopes I think they were called. That process was very blurry.) Some 1950s and early 60s shows stuck with black and white film to save money. Still other 50s TV producers moved to color film when they realized that color TV would be a thing. While very early movie film from the 1920s and early 30s didn't last in storage, later film quality was better (1940s onward.) Color Superman was shot on quality color film, as were the color episodes of I Love Lucy, etc., and later Star Trek, TOS (also a Desilu production.) Remastering has helped, esp. with Star Trek, TOS, but the color film was decent quality to begin with, especially compared to magnetic video tape. Nowadays shows are shot direct to digital media since about 2000 or so and they will suffer almost no decay in storage. It's unfortunate that so many 70s through 90s shows have been lost due to analog video tape fade.

I thought that the plot for this particular episode was quite imaginative! Interesting how Perry White was forever exclaiming "Great Ceasers Ghost"!!! And they "baddies" made him believe that he had actually caused Ceasers Ghost to rise to haunt him! Yes, an imaginative plot line that has almost become extinct in todays T.V. series.

Growing up watching these, I pictured Perry White saying "I'm going to call you Sammy, Superman" SUPERMAN: "Why?" WHITE: "To make you feel at home. Tell me the truth, now - those super powers are isolating, which can lead to depression, since you have nothing in common with anyone" SUPERMAN: "You're right, I feel alone a lot. Okay, call me Sammy." WHITE: "And you don't have to wear that campy uniform anymore. Just wear a team-style windbreaker with a big "S" on the back." SUPERMAN: "But won't people still single me out, call me 'Superman' because of the big "S" on the coat?" WHITE: "Just say 'you can call me Sammy'" So he would fit in better with regular people. Isolation is not a good thing for anyone. .

In the B&W episodes all the red parts of the costume were actually dark brown to facilitate greater contrast. Always got a kick out of glasses on... Clark Kent. Glasses off... Superman. And of course how Superman would let the bullets bounce off his chest. But if the bad guy threw the gun at him...he always ducked.
