Yep I caught that too having owned many offroad vehical's including CJ2, 5, 7s, Samurais, FJ40s, M37, and now currently a hardtop Dodge raider that I got for free.
@@exploringwithjonathan that free raider is currently my favorite! but FJ 60 was most functional durable rig I ever owned 2 x from Fla to AK in it, super reliable comfortable to drive long distance, easy to sleep in it, carry tons of kit. I just today got a 1971 W200 Dodge 4x4 running working the bugs out of it, 300 dollar scrap save.
Hello friend . I am a bit of sceptic myself, but not very knowledgeable about motor vehicles in general , let alone jeeps . Not being sarcastic , just seeking facts when possible . I'd be grateful if you could educate me about some of the of the Jeep and/or non-Jeep inaccuracies in this video . thank you, please reply !
Your incorrect . The 4.0 was in fact designed by AMC . It is actually just a refinement of the 258 / 4.2 engine . Better ports , combustion chamber and induction. And as for the "crappy" 2.8 liter GM produced V6 ...It wasnt a bad engine in reality . It lacked power but I have a 86 Cherokee " Cherokee Chief " 2.8 / 5 speed manual that I bought brand new in 86 that has 314,567 original miles on it. It just passed emissions test again here in California. Its definitely no power house but its never had a single mechanical issue and has only had regular basic maintenance since day 1. Im not a GM fan but cant deny the truth . The 2.8 is a gutless engine but the one I have has been incredibly reliable .
I currently own a 87 Cherokee XJ with over 400 k original miles that still runs great. Has never let me down since new. A CJ - 5 and CJ-7 but have owned willys wagons pickups , full size Cherokee , Cherokee XJ etc. But once Chrysler got ahold of Jeep the reliability and quality definitely have suffered big time. The Grand Cherokee , liberty and most others in the line up have horrible reputations
I just picked up, ok actually my Dad gave it to me, a 1944 Ford GPW....it's got a Ford 289 K-Code out of a '66 Mustang (rebuilt and bored .030), a Carter 4bbl on an Offenhauser intake, Hedman headers, a 4spd w/a Warn Overdrive, twin-stick transfer case, Dana 44 out back and a Dana 27A up front (think I'm gonna change that to a 35 though) both posi runnin 5.38 gears, 11" drum brakes, 2.5" Rancho "Soft Ride" suspension lift, full cage roll bar, only things missing are a winch and power steering...not a spot of rust, needs a paint job and an original back seat, and a new soft top....my Dad's just about to turn 70, and the clutch is a little much for his arthritic knee to handle, so now it's in my garage :-)
Great Cars was one of my favorite TV shows in 2004, 2005 when it used to be telecasted on Discovery Channel at 6 PM. I used to watch it immediately after reaching home from tuition classes. I loved it
Add a small, angled piece of armored steel, just enough to deflect a rifle bullet & that Belly Flopper could have been useful as a kind of rapidly moving machine gun nest.
I got my 52 cj3a in 70..i was 12..rebuilt from ground up..paid 750$ for it ..man I wish I still had her went everywhere in that thing ..ran it on everclear to keracine...currently looking for her to buy back
A uniquely American vehicle. As a Toyota FJ40 plows through the water. Hilarious and common mistake. What's dragging underneath the Jeep at 15:45? Exhaust pipe?
This commentary is garbage...."the Jeep is capable of going to the edge" then shows very highly modified nearly no Jeep left vehicles in competitions...." Capable off-road but most people don't".... Actually most people who buy a Jeep will take it off road at least once in it's liftime and the majority of them go out once a month or more......pure garbage
Ours has 326,000 miles.. Never been apart. Used every day in Eastern Pennsylvania. No rock climbing but no joke when deep snow and ice stops almost everything else. Hard top and factory ac and automatic keep it pleasant in the heat of the summer. It has been wonderful.
Actually your more incorrect than correct. FCA US LLC is the parent company of Both Fiat & Chrysler Corp which includes the Jeep Division . Jeeps are still produced in the Toledo Ohio plant where they have been built for decades. FCA is a American / Italian Corp which is actually owned by stock holders who happen to be mostly American. You can claim Fiat owns Jeep and that Fiat builds them but the facts are that Jeep is still made in America in the same place they have been for decades. And Jeep , Chrysler and Fiat are all 3 actually owned by people like myself who have invested money by buying shares . Paper and the media may say FCA US LLC owns and manufactures Jeep but I like countless others have paper that says I am a owner of FCA US LLC. And I am as American as one can be !
@@BuzzLOLOL ...actually the YJ was built in Canada from 1987 to 1991 due to the XJ requiring so much factory floor space in Toledo...i worked on the final assembly line when the last CJ7 rolled off...sad day
How would the originators of the Jeep like the current Jeep Wagoneer /Grand Wagoneer and the 4-door Wrangler. I love them and wouldn't mind owning one.
I love the old Willys Jeep. But the WJ Jeep is not of my favorite one. My Mawmaw has one that is a 2004 with the 4.0. It has barely 80,000 miles and my 74 year old Mawmaw has owned it since 2006. The thing is gutless! Now we have a problem with the T case kicking into Part Time or High 4wd at random. Sometimes you can park it and it was running fine. Never use the 4wd that day. Go to take off the next day and it's stuck in 4wd and got what sounds like a M16 in the T case! MPG is 11 on the highway too! I don't know if it was just a bad one with a lot of weakness from the factory. Maybe built on a Monday or Friday?! But I know it sure has not impressed me at all!
Prolly needs a tune up for more power... or a build up, lots of those on youtube... 12 MPG is about max new for those square windshield brick-shaped windpushers...
So, the producer of this would like you to believe that the HMMWV is "a direct descendant of the jeep," Well, sorry. No it's not. The HMMWV is a direct descendant of the M151 series of 4x4, 1/4 ton trucks, which were designed by Ford in the early 1950s beginning with M151, followed by M151A1 and M151A2. Oddly, several of these M151s were shown earlier in the video without comment about what they were.
I wouldn't go around telling people you bought a TJ. YJ, while mostly manufactured by Chrysler, was the last AMC design, and therefore...the last Jeep. The TJ is a lifted Sebring.
This thing is full of errors. Dodged were WCs not VCs No vehicle was ever referred to as GP / Jeep but the 1/4 ton 4x4 utility vehicles by Bantan, Ford, Willys. There are better docs on the history of this vehicle lasting 55 minutes or more.
So sad fiat has them now, they totally screwed them up. I drive my 82 CJ-7 daily, over one million miles on it, except the engine, third one in it now. Went a little crazy building it! Now the jeep compass is one of the worst vehicles of all. Thanks fiat
Much rather have a Jeep ,love ford broncos and trucks own a f150 and a explorer ,also love Toyota trucks and fj’s , Chevey trucks and blazers and most other off road vehicles but a Jeep even today is easy to work on even if your on the trail
want a new original, no way it could be street legal one of those? Mahindra and take care of that for you now...but like I said no way it could be street legal these days.
@@BuzzLOLOL in SOME states maybe...they're NOT street legal in West Virginia (they're considered a side-by-side 4×4 and have the same restrictions..) Plus, the US DOT, NHTSA, and EPA only allows them for off-road use..😏

Japan didn't want to go to war until 1949 AFTER USA left Asia... leaving Philippines independent/easily conquerable... Hitler pushed them into too early war...
wyomarine What’d you expect the Jeep to handle like on road? Sure Toyota’s drive more comfortable on road and are good off road. But they are definitely not as capable off road as a Jeep is. Hence why jeeps compromise on road comfort for off-road performance. I’ve driven a Land Cruiser LR3, Toyota 4Runner, and a Jeep wranglers. They all have their pros and cons. But if I’m gonna do the rubicon trail with a stock vehicle, guess which one I’m gonna take, the Jeep.
wyomarine maybe go follow “TheRoadChoseMe” he took a stock TJ across the entire continent of South America with no issues. Then he took a JKU across the entire continent of Africa without issue and he even rolled it, but it worked fine on sketchy gas, land without roads. And idk what the f#%* you mean they aren’t in Australia lmfao there are full on Jeep rallies there with a massive following. Two woman took on an overland navigating race in a Jeep rubicon and won, beating out Raptors, land cruisers, and land rovers. If you are so biased, then open your eyes and see that companies that had a rough past can always innovate and create better products. It’s called learning from your mistakes.
I don't think Jeep is why they end up in financial trouble. Historically the companies were already hedging off financial trouble & they buy the Jeep name in hopes it will turn their failing company around. Kaiser did it buying Willy's. The Kaiser/Nash auto line was failing & not selling by 60s. But Jeep survived beyond any Kaiser or Nash cars. AMC bought Jeep in 70s to compete with the big three (GM, Ford, Chrysler) but had horrible automobiles (witness the Gremlin, Javalin, & Pacer). They bought Jeep which kept them afloat for a little while but their cars were huge failures - Again, Jeep survived & Chrysler bought Jeep in 1987. They formed the Jeep/Eagle division. Eagle was a fail but they've kept Jeep under their umbrella. Chrysler has had subsequent mergers with Daimler-Benz & now Fiat. And Jeep continues to survive & has had 32 yrs as a Chrysler division ~ longer that ownership by any other past owners including Willy's. Jeep is a successful niche market but can't be the sole division to keep a major auto manufacturer solvent in modern economic times.
I remember in Canada you could get military surplus Willy's for between 50 and 100 Canadian Pesos in the early '80's . I wish I had taken advantage of that .
Jeep Wrangler (military style) still made in Toledo, Ohio, USA since 1941... was made alongside the Cherokee/Liberty/Cherokee SUV, but that production just moved to Detroit area (where big Grand Cherokee SUV always made) to make room for new Gladiator pickup production... (Comanche was previous Jeep pickup)
