In Istanbul Lewis Hamilton recovered from a spin that left him in eighteenth place to take second position in the final corners. Commentators: Martin Haven and Gareth Rees
He is an incredible driver, and whatever people say, he surely deserves what he achieved. The fact that the only ones to have had performances that dominant in spec-cars are Schumi, Leclerc and Hamilton says a lot
Considering that GP2/formula 2 cars are all equal, shows to all Hamilton haters that Lewis really DOES have immense talent behind the wheel. A comeback like this in GP2 just wasnt meant to happen back in the day, and he still did it
@@41g28 it's really not though, if all the cars are equal and you're a comeback like that, you have plenty of skill. If you are comparing an SUV to these cars, then I can't even take you seriously
I read somewhere in the comments he told his mechanics to clips the wings or something, they called him mad but he proved them wrong in race .He did have better brains
Anyway, he won in ART Grand Prix squad, a French Automobile squad that built and owned by Frédéric Vasseur and Nicolas Todt (his father is FIA President, Jean Todt and manager of Charles Leclerc). They built it in Winter time between 2004-2005. In 2005, Nico Rosberg win the GP2 championship with ART GP, and Lewis Hamilton win GP2 championship with ART GP in 2006. This tim winning 8 titles in GP3 since 2010. This team is one of the TOUGHEST team in F2 and F3. So, still NOT underdog team, right? Who is his tough rival in 2006? Piquet Jr. They both winning 4 races, Lewis winning just by 12 points more than Piquet Jr. And his team, Piquet Sport. In this case, Lewis and Piquet Jr are the GREATEST racers in that session.
@@AlonsoRules Same here... I couldn't believe he was turning his back on McLaren. What little did we know???? So looking forward to the 2020 season to finally start. I really think by 2023 Lewis shall be the highest world championships than anyone else.... Take care... Crazy days.....
Lewis was always destined for greatness, yes he got straight into a winning car but he almost won the title on the first attempt! He would have over performed in any of the cars on the grid in 07 LH44 ❤️
@@Themayseffect Hamilton was still leading the championship after China. It was the bizzare gearbox issue in Brazil that ultimately stopped Hamilton winning the title, in the title deciding race.
@@Themayseffect Probably? He definitely would have won the title without McLaren making the most imbecilic call in F1 history that race. But there's more than just China, mate. There are a few 'what if' scenarios for all the title contenders in 2007 so its a little bit silly to just pinpoint one incident in a specific race. And my point still stands. China was not a championship ending incident for Hamilton because he had a big enough lead with 2 races to go to have a DNF in China and still lead the championship going into Brazil, which he did. That's why, technically, the gearbox issue in Brazil is what ultimately ended up stopping Hamilton from winning the title, in the title deciding race
@@MT-pv2rf not really, the commentators even noted during the race if he'd finished 3rd or higher he'd be the champion. So it really is down to that 1 race. Not to mention he was the only driver that season to podium the first 9 races.
Also for me. I saw this on replay on BBC sport news very shortly. 2007 I was following Hamilton religiously. I get big satisfaction that Hamilton destroyed Piquet Jr career. Cause his dad is talking shit about Hamilton, especially now his daughter is the girlfriend of Max Verstappen.
@@dbabu51 Honestly Piquet Sr. is a bitter little man, cause money doesn’t buy you talent. He son was good driver but in era of Alonso, Hamilton and Vettel his talent or his daddy’s money was not enough. Piquet Sr. probably knew about the deal between his son and Flavio Briatore.
@@thesunandrews4527 I agree that you can't really compare different teams in GP2 like you can in F1. However, some teams are better than others in these feeder series because of better mechanics, thus better tunes, better strategies, and a lot of other factors that make them more competitive. You can tell it's not all the same when you look at teams like ART and Prema today in F2 and F3. They dominate pretty much over every other team. So it's not all the same.
I had been following the progress of GP2 that year, despite leading the championship and had impressive results already, it was this performance that convinced me that he was ready for F1. Of course, nobody outside of McLaren anticipated that he would, fresh from securing the championship in GP2, jump straight into one of the top cars in F1 as the rookie team mate to the then reigning double world champion, Fernando Alonso. The rest is history as they say
What a driver...... He's the best driver to grace modern F1.. brilliant....... I wish the haters watch this..... You cannot say this young man even back then was world-class.......
Robert Thomas spot on Robert, so many people have never driven a car in anger think they know what they are on about. The cream rises to the top. Hats off Lewis.
so impressed my opinion of glock has completely changed, easily the only driver on the grid that was capable of holding lewis and when you consider he had been holding piquet before that and than held back both of them for a long time, brilliant defensive performance. if his qualifying and attack were as ferocious, we would be hearing about him in f1 right now, maybe as a champ.
Ah the good old days. Eurosport showing gp2 and Porsche supercup Sunday mornings before the F1 race which was live on itv1. Then in the afternoon bsb, wsb, and Moto gp all live on Eurosport. Then to top it off live champ cars Sunday nite with Ben edwards commentating
Yet people call him not a good racer and its all the car? hahaha this is why seb and bottas and nico rosberg are nothing compared lol he is just the best end of.
Vettel is pretty damn good and will always give Hamilton a run for his money, and this is coming from a huge Hamilton fan. Four time world champion Vettel definitely deserves some respect.
I would love to see a 21yr old Lewis Hamilton versus the latest F1 young guns: Verstappen, LeClerc, Norris, Russell, etc. Lewis would mop the track with them!
He will eat them all. Bottas isn't mediocre. Bottas destroyed Massa - Shumacher former teammate and Rosberg destroyed Shumacher. Schumacher shouldn't lost his speed by mile IF he is that GREAT.
Lewis was a damn fighter from a young age. His mental is so strong. No wonder he is nearing 40 and still so fricking competitive. And of course he just so talented. I can easily recognise him, he is always been smooth and clean.
Hamilton ist fahrerisch echt Weltklasse. Hat man damals schon gesehen. Alles gewonnen was es zu gewinnen gab! Formel Renault Meister, Formel 3 Meister, GP2 Meister und heute 7x Formel 1 Weltmeister mit zwei verschiedenen Teams.
Every time I watch this race it fills me with excitement and pride it never fails. Lewis has demonstrated throughout his racing career that he is the greatest the man to beat and there is more to come.
I think he meant as in the commentary in the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix where Hamilton overtook glow on the last corner of the race to beat mass to the title. the commentator at the time said "is that glock?"
Lewis Hamilton won 6 different karting tournaments also won 2005 Masters of f3 2005 F3 euro series 2006 GP2 series Yet people wonder how he got a seat in McLaren in his debut year man that resume is so strong why would mclaren not take him
Glock and Piquet both earned their seats in F1 being highly competitive in GP2 (the fastest open wheel spec series). They are in the top 5% of racing drivers in the world. The difference is Hamilton is possibly the greatest racer of all time, and this is one of the best performances of his career.
Remember watching this & the Silverstone race live, I’ll never forget them. He was a different league. I’ve said it before but this is why I don’t want DRS anywhere near racing. It makes overtaking too easy. Takes away any ability to defend, takes away the excitement
Poland got to the final against Brazil. The 2006 Volleyball GP was won by Brazil. Brazil 24 - 16 Poland. Just a bit of useless information for you, 6 months after what i am sure you said as a joke :-)
Well we haven't seen a scrap as good as that in F1 for years! Excellent from Lewis and very impressive from Glock. Shame he didn't really make in F1. Looks like he has the skills.
