At dusk, a Great Horned Owl emerged from its day roost in a large conifer, gave a wake-up hoot, then flew to a nearby tree, along with its mate. The pair proceeded to serenade our group with their duets for several minutes.
I just heard that outside! That’s the first time I’ve ever heard an owl in real life! It’s crazy to think such a big bird was hidden in darkness in the trees while I was looking up.
Same, it lowkey spooked me because I kept trying to figure out which tree it was on but it sounded like it was coming from all directions. I know theyre very silent when they fly too and I was reminded of that netflix series "staircase" so I gtfo lol
He's just sitting there scoping out his surroundings with that incredible eye vision and neck turn taking it all in all in one spot. Incredible. Like a Camera with wings!!
Just heard this outside of my house 4 30 am looked at all owls in my area searched all the sounds came to this on!!! So cool to here this. Thers only 4 in my area and all sound nothing like this beauty if a beard.
My mum coming from south America said in some rural villages they torture them, thinking theyre witches. Thats my favorite and yes if my day has been ruined it will be yours, cause i love owls.
The camouflage kind of makes it look like a beehive when it’s coiled up. I wonder if that works as a deterrent for potential predators. Pretty brilliant if so
I’ve been obsessed with great horned owls ever since sitting outside at night and hearing a cat being eaten by a owl now when I hear them in the area I let people know not to let their small animals outside beautiful animals ! I just never knew that ate small dogs and small cats 😭✨🫶🏼 I live in North Carolina ! So we have a bunch everywhere
Love owls. 😊 A couple retire to the bedroom for some lovemaking. They have a parrot and when it sees this the bird always says: I know who's gonna get laid tonight! The couple finally decide to get another bird/playmate and bring in an owl and put it in a cage next to the parrot. Sure enough, as the couple prepares for bed, the parrot squawks: I know who's gonna get laid tonight, and the owl says: Who? Who? and the parrot replies: Not you, ya' flat faced bitch.
The Great Horned Owl may as well be the Red Tailed Hawk of owls, in that it's the most common owl in North America, and its' call is frequently used in the media no matter what owl is being depicted.
*I started looking for owls this year, so far I've seen, photography and videoed Great Horned Owl and Owlet 🦉🦉🦉 , Barn Owl and Owlet 🦉🦉🦉, Long Eared Owl , Short Eared Owl and Burrowing Owl*
Last night I started hearing hooting when I was on a walk with my cat and I thought it was a morning dove, got curious and searched up owl sounds and its definitely one of these! It was neat because I've never seen or heard an owl around here before (central az) but then I got spooked because it also said on google that theyll try eating/attacking cats or dogs and I couldn't tell where it was coming from because it was so loud and theres a lot of trees so I hurried home in a panic lol mainly because theres no small animals around like bunnies other than stray cats so I'm not sure why its here at all. Ive also heard a bat nearby for the last few days which I had never seen before too, I assume it's because it got cold all of a sudden? Just last week we were in the 90s during the day and night and out of nowhere were in the 50s. Been freezing my butt off ngl
