Welcome to What Yacht To Do, a Great Loop Documentary. Today, (April 16, 2022) Rev and Sam are moving on their Great Loop Route from Rivers Edge Marina in St. Augustine, Florida over to Cumberland Island, Georgia. We stayed at the Cumberland Sound anchorage.
We are cruising around America's Great Loop for a second time and selected a 1999 Carver 504 named the Here's To Us!! as our Great Loop boat. So much goes into Great Loop planning and we share every trip with you. Welcome aboard!
Here are a few resources that we used for the trip: www.whatyachtt...

Sam and Rev, I have enjoyed every mile of both Loops. Don't sell the Boat. The LOOP is not the be-all or end-all of that type of cruising. There is Spring/Summer/Fall on Long Island Sound including Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. And who can forget the Northeast Circle NYC to Maine down the St. Lawrence River to Lake Champlain, the Hudson River and back to NYC. But, whatever you decide to do, I congratulate you for creating one of the most technically informative series on RU-vid. As a Former "Coastie" Quartermaster with 100,000 miles at sea in the Arctic Ocean, Labrador Sea, North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico in the 1950's I was fascinated by the in depth look at modern Navigation technology. Bon Voyage!

I think you should have the Carver loaded on a ship or maybe a truck and brought to the Puget Sound. Spend a year or more in the Sound and the San Juan's and then do British Columbia, and Alaska including Prince William Sound.... some of the best cruising around. You won't regret it😊

Capt. Sam I was Amazed at how tight it was in the Dock. Does it help to have the thruster to get in to a Dock that tight or can just the 2 engine's do it to? You and Admiral Rev Stay Safe. Capt. Mike.
@WhatYachtToDo
@WhatYachtToDo 2 года назад
Yes, the thrusters do help and I would not have tried getting into that space if I had an inoperative thruster. It probably could be done under optimum conditions, such as high slack tide, but I was concerned about depth and did not have much margin at low slack tide. Cheers, Sam

I remember in the 90s there was only a draw bridge at the old bridge of lions in st Augustine. Daddy had to bide his time with the currents, waiting for the bridge to open and then get through- very narrow.40+ ft antique wooden sailboat. I wish I could remmber how long it was. It has several masts and cast iron keel - old New England sailboat Quite the currents and high tides in the parts im use to between st Augustine and mid ga

We had to stay in Fernandina for 4 nights last fall due to bad weather. It turned out to be a great little town with enough to keep us busy! Glad we were on the inside docks as the boats on the outer dock rocked and rolled quite a bit. Luckily no smell at all ! Keep having fun !!!

This episode was especially interesting to me because I always thought if I ever get another boat, I would want to be either in St. Augustine, Fernandina Beach or Brunswick, so I thoroughly enjoyed it! Never got up to Fernandina when I was in Mayport, maybe someone had mentioned the paper mill up there and that kept me away LOL I grew up in Muskegon, Mi and there was a HUGE mill there back in the 1960's. The stench made it's way all the way to the opposite end of the city
