In the early days of spaceflight, if NASA needed to plot a rocket’s path or confirm a computer’s calculations, they knew who to ask: Katherine Johnson.

+Alpaca Man Excuse me. She was still only a computer -- someone employed to save the engineer's time by doing the grunt calculations. In fact, the real question this video raises is, if she showed such early talent, why she peaked so low. Joan Clarke and Grace Hopper were the real deal. Unless she retrained as a numerical analyst, why is she even worth a mention?
@johncollinsjk

+cygil1 Ignoring how you've belittled her contributions have you considered how high she might have climbed without the stigma of her race and sex? prejudice can limit the best and brightest of us all and opportunity goes to often to those who fit the norms of a community

@vivalavega01
@vivalavega01 8 лет назад
Monchi McAwesome nope, was just hoping someone would comment "one of us"
@Hemuro4ever
@Hemuro4ever 8 лет назад
+Monchi McAwesome If you thumbs up and then thumbs down a video only the thumbs down counts... Whichever one you click last is the only one that would get counted... So yes bots, which would have to have a youtube account (not really automatable, so you have to at least make the accounts by hand meaning there probably aren't very many of these bots), could account for some dislikes on videos, but no likes. This is because the dislike button comes after both in the source code and when you tab through, which means that a bot clicking everything on the page would trigger the dislike button second. You could however program a bot to just like videos if you manually create it's account. In summary, I doubt that bots are liking or disliking videos on any large scale...

Raven Rose, while she no doubt has white ancestry, as all African Americans do, she doesn't identify as biracial or "tri-racial," and I see no reliable sources stating that she is. Anyway, check out the film "Hidden Figures" too.
@TheVeriaStarr
@TheVeriaStarr 7 лет назад
I'll look for the video. Regardless of whether what you've stated is true or not (regarding the video), this goes for all African Americans anyway. African Americans are a mixed race; studies have consistently found that they have European and Native American ancestry, or some other "race" in their blood. Do your research. And acknowledging this ancestry doesn't mean that the person identifies as multiracial. And I repeat: No one is purely one "race" anymore.
@TheVeriaStarr
@TheVeriaStarr 7 лет назад
MZC, you aren't making a bit of sense. Shut the fuck up already. And for the last time: Having an avatar of a black female X-Men character does not mean that the person is black. Or a woman, for that matter.

I was at a Bat Mitzvah this weekend and the girl's great-aunt, an unassuming lady in her 70s, was a graduate student at MIT in the '60s and helped figure out the Apollo trajectories with the new computers. She got to meet a few of the astronauts, including Neal Armstrong. She couldn't remember the other two. I'm sure that she was following the trail that Ms. Katherine Johnson blazed.

Hi Scishow Space! Keep up the good content! Maybe you are not aware of this, but the historically correct way to refer to the National Advisory for Aeronautics is to say "the N-A-C-A" (say each letter), not to say "NACA" (two syllables) in the way that we say "NASA." Supposedly this was even a bit of a pet peeve for old NACA members after NASA was formed!

this is kind of off topic, but the "human computer" title had me thinking... i personally believe that in the future, we will greatly reduce global energy consumption as we transition away from computers and into "brain computers". What i mean by that is we will be able to consciously control our sub conscious brain to compute tasks. For example, our head does advanced calculus and physics when riding a bike. We can tap into that power. Our heads will be connected to the internet; no need for phones or personal computers. That will reduce the energy load of our IT infrastructure.
