I wonder who many people claim they were there, as opposed to how many actually were? 😋 I believe you, I'm just sayin'. Also, still the GOAT win in Memphis football history to this day.
I was in college out of state on that day. I wore a Memphis shirt and some came to me about that kickoff and how the fans celebrated on the field which usually never happens. I told them UT is one of our rivals and it is our only win to them.
Here is the rule on when a player is down taken from the 1996 NCAA Football rulebook (as in published FOR, not after the 1996 season). It is the same as it is now. The elbow touching IS down. You can download it for free. Look at Rule 4. Here it is.... FR-58 Rule 4/Ball in Play, Dead Ball, Out of Bounds b. When any part of the ball carrier’s body, except his hand or foot, touches the ground or when the ball carrier is tackled or otherwise falls and loses possession of the ball as he contacts the ground with any part of his body, except his hand or foot [Exception: The ball remains alive when an offensive player has simulated a kick or at the snap is in position to kick the ball held for a place kick by a teammate. The ball may be kicked, passed or advanced by rule] (A.R. 4-1-3-I)
He never touched the ground. He rolled on top of another player and kept going. I saw this live on TV and the multiple replays afterward and the multiple SportsCenter highlights. It was a legit touchdown, hence the winning of Play of the Year at the ESPYs.
@@815scorpius7 oh man, it’s been 2 years and you replied to this lol thanks for the fun reminder to go through and read all the butt hurt comments again! I had forgotten about this.
Exhibit A: Why tennessee refuses games with MEMPHIS. Greater MEMPHIS STATE legislators should introduce legislation that requires 4 such games every moving 10 year period. I'd contribute several hundreds of dollars to incumbent or state house aspirant who pledged to introduce such legislation.
Ryan B. U act like its not 10 others guys on the field when he plays and u also act like its not 11 guys on the field when the offense is not on the field. No one man can beat a team. Its takes offense, defense, and special teams. U probably dont know nothing about that water boy.
Ryan B. and? How was the line blocking that game against the D-line? How was the route running by the wideouts and the communication between the QB and WR's? Again, you cant blame ONE person for losing a game. Yes turnovers dont help, but thats what the defense is for,
Probably because Florida was one of if not the best team in the 90s, the only team better than Florida in the 90s was probably Nebraska, had Florida not been as good as they were in the 90s, Tennessee would've had atleast one more Natty during the 90s and a whole lot more SEC championships.
Believe me if the referee blew that call and it was not the rite call, Cobb would have never received a reward from espn as the best play of the year. They would have buried it
Biggest fluke ever in college football. If you beat a team the caliber of Tennessee you should be better lol. Was a big upset but a fluke because Memphis had a awful team that was worthless
