For those wondering, on the second pass/touch, any plane EXCEPT the opposing team's plane is legal to play. Also on the second pass, it is legal to CROSS a non legal space (net, line, etc). So the setter crossed legally into the opposing teams space, but only made contact when it was out, and therefore no longer in the opposing team's area of play
Opposing players should go to the corner of THEIR playing space where the setter needs to go through so he cannot go through their side set the ball. They're not obligated to allow the opposing players to come into their space before leaving their space to play the ball.
Like when would he hit it otherwise? Not on the 1st pass cos it would be his point anyway. Not on the 3rd pass cos the point is already lost. Not when it'll hit in the opponents court cos the point is still in play. There's only that 1 instance he would ever run to the opposite side side of the net and that's to hit it back for the 3rd pass
@@ForumLight that is totally legal. The opponent can also touch the net on the second pass, for example, to deflect a pass into the net. A lot of things the opposing team can do on the second pass to "not help" the attacking team, just that they don't often get the chance to do so
@@baron6797 also correct, a lot of these rules apply on the first pass too, but you wouldn't want to do it, because you would be preventing the serving team from losing a point on a side out. And they are strictly prohibited on the 3rd pass for those exact reasons
For those who did not understand: 1. Ball from the rightside team went out of the antenna not over the net so it's basically still their ball. 2. Setter did not put his foot on the opponent's side of the court. 3. Setter returned the ball outside of the antenna 4. 3rd touch delivery
@@egedinsever5880 I thinks it's more about IQ. It's about recognizing what's happening in the moment and at the speed of the game (IQ). Then realizing what can be done according to the rules (IQ) and finally knowing if your skill set and position on the court in that moment will allow you to accomplish goals within the rules (IQ).
@@Whoo_Boy i dont know do you play volleyball but i do and we dont think about its according to rules because we always know you have to pass the ball between antennas. His reflex is fast, he is good runner and his pass is good. You never think is it valid to rules in this situation because you just know.

That's fine, there's nothing done against the international rules to say this play was illegal. It's a fair play as the ball contact was made outside the opponents court and returned to his own side within the court lines.

@@tedted528 they raised their hand hoping for referee to call penetration under net. Or claim that the ball flew inside the antenna. And anyway, they have to leave the net, because a ball that gets set like this, is never going to be a hard driven ball, there is no point in blocking. It's better for everybody to participate in floor defense. But their formation was bad, they should have been standing deeper. My guess is they were expecting a bad set and a free ball, but Micah somehow makes a hittable set and defalco managed to hit it hard.
I just want to draw attention to the spiker. Don't let the fact that this video is clearly slowed down draw you away from the fact that the spiker only had about 0.5-1 second to react, move and jump to where the setter had bounced the ball back to his side of the court. Then he successfully spiked it hard and deep (that's what she said) and won the point. Great job 🎉

For those wondering why the other team (Germany) is complaning.. Long story short, at this level, it’s part of “the show”. The officials, players and coaches know this. They are all fully aware of the rules but if any opportunity comes to try to influence the ref’s call for whatever reason, they will take it. Way of the game😄

As FIVB referee for many years, that is a basic rule in volleyball and that is perfectly done on this video. I have noticed that heaps of players do not know basic rules in volleyball... For me it s like football (soccer) players do play with hands and touch the ball with hands... I'm always surprised that players do not know basic rules in their main sports.

Love with the other team reacts like they don’t know the rules and then you blast it. Chasing second hits and pancakes that fall on the other side for a point and they’re all slack jaw.
i hate when players try to influence the ref. always have. like you’re not the referee, what you think doesn’t matter to the ref, it’s their judgement call. you should continue playing
the funny part is after the blue team returns it, the white team seems to have forgotten that #10 is a) still on the wrong side, and b) 'saved a ball on their side that his team would have lost the point on.

The ball can ONLY cross the net between the antennas once per posession. As lon gas the over set is not between the antennas its legal. This does NOT look to be legal. Note it must pass BETWEEN and not over. 1mm over the antenna, is OB.
