Too often, a speaker loses his audience before he even gets to the core of his speech. In this video, Deborah Grayson Riegel teaches viewers how to create terrific openings and closings to presentations.
Here are some great courses I recommend:

I truly enjoyed these wonderful tips and practice points that were shared with their readers. Each tutorial added to the others a piece of the presentation just as a finger serves a hand causing the hand to serve the wrist and on and on. I viewed enthusiastically these fine tutorials on successful use of speaking methodologies when speaking to a public audience and learned in the process I have been a criminal defense lawyer for 43 years; an ordained minister with my Master of Divinity; an adjunct professor of philosophy; PhD In pastoral psychology; an author; a presenter on law and Ethics/Civility to thousands of lawyers all over the U S. to satisfy 4 credit hours to comply with their state's CLE requirements; speak two languages; 45 years of athletics including rugby; tv/movie personality; etc I have the experience to say this: if you can't be at one with your audience and cause them to feel better about themselves ; to feel their joy and sorrows; to create that ontological moment to be remembered forever; to empathize; then you have lost a point in your presentation. It truly takes a lifetime for most people to love their audiences - truly so May The Lord continue to hold each of you in His favor. I, getting tired and must rest

Thanks Deborah, this was a good, basic message that hit on many of the important points of introductions and conclusions. I am going to share this with my classes and am sure that they will be able to use many of the techniques. Everything is not relevant to the presentations they will be delivering but I will cover those, (this doesn't make the entire message irrelevant, however.) I have read through the comments and have to say for those who have the attention span of a flea, are just ready to criticize without thinking, and think they know best, guess what? They don't.

Agree it can be very easy to lose your audience. Sometimes if you haven't captivated your audience in the first 30 seconds then it can be an uphill struggle. It is about being confident to be yourself and speak to your audience with impact.
