So i have been working on this baby for a while. But still some adjustment. She seem to be a bit nose heavy but very hard to land. she wanna float all the way. the manual say the CG is 4 1/2 and im starting to wonder if i did measure wrong. anyone knows how much it will be in cm? Anyhow the maiden is done and the plane is still flying. going to tune the motor a bit. it sounded a bit lean and didn't use much fuel.

i'm preety sure it 's backwards, huuhauh, unless there's something different on this project, it definitely is backwards

Looks tail heavy to me has it survived been a few years. I always go nose heavy first for then I move the CG back little by little if needed.

blastman8888 it was a bit nose heavy. But main problem was to small engine. The plane got heavy after paint.

Cool! Ever thought about putting floats on it to do water landings in the lake next to the field? I'm going to build this one soon and I'm thinking of adding floats.

It’s March 2022. Great job on that maiden flight. The gear are installed backward. It looks funny that way. Will throw off the CG. The right wing is heavy. Fix these and idle down more and it will be easier to fly. A good friend of mine has given me one that is almost completed but not covered yet. It is a great Plains piper J3 cub .60 size. Only thing that is missing is the front canopy which I will fabricate one myself. I am planning on putting a electric set up in it. I will probably use a power 60 and 2-4S 5000 mA batteries. Hopefully I will have it finished by the end of July. I will paint it and cover it traditional cub yellow. Trying to figure out what pilot I want. I was thinking about a Rastaman.

You have the landing gear wrong the left has to go on the right and the right has to go on the left you are wheel skirts are facing the wrong way

My Piper J3 has the problem of not going straight during takeoff due to the torque generated by the engine. What can I do to make it go straight? Thank you

It looks like it needs weight in the nose, try limiting yourself to half throttle, try using rudder only and only use the ailerons to level the wings, you will find your turns are much smoother with no adverse yaw , I have a Cub built from Dan Smith plans 88 inch span that flies on no throttle, I only trim the throttle up, but I have the stick in the full down position, it flies nice and scale just above idle, obviously I trim it back to land, but my Cub is only 5lbs in weight ,it is powered by a Saito fa.50 Black motor. try between 25 and 33% of the wing chord for balance, personally I would be going for about 30%

engine idle too fast the plane is still flying at idle
@cameronr1451
@cameronr1451 9 лет назад
good job getting it on the ground. Your landing gear is mounted backwards. Moving the gear forward will help. Also, its always better to be alittle nose heavy rather than tail heavy. Its hard to fly a tail heavy plane without stalling it.
@ArcticRc
@ArcticRc 9 лет назад
+Cameron R Well the landing gear was the least of my problems. to much paint and a weak engine :) But we had some good fun and that is all that matters :)

@gogogeedus
@gogogeedus 5 лет назад
A nose heavy plane is very stable where as yours is unstable on it lateral axis or in other words it is pitch sensitive , I would be rechecking the C,of,G. go for between 25% to 33% of the chord and start at 25 and work back from there,
@ArcticRc
@ArcticRc 5 лет назад
Under powered also. But the plane is dead many years ago. 😊😊

The Idle is set way too high, The Gear is on Backwards AND it's VERY tail heavy...... Of course this is Old news by now..... Was a pretty painful video to watch.....
@ArcticRc
@ArcticRc 5 лет назад
Learn by doing is our motto. Old video and a plane that had more flaws than a clown🤣. But yeah not a good crash but not sure it was that tail heavy. But under powered.
@Mytyweav
@Mytyweav 5 лет назад
@@ArcticRc The motor was either over propped or not set right on the mixture. It was like you couldn't capture full throttle and for sure, you didn't have the low end set down to a good/solid idle. Those Cubs fly so good....So nice. You got lucky! You never stuck it in the ground. I'm sure over the past couple years, you have it flying much better! Looked like your Left Thumb was a bit lazy too. The airplane was lacking authority in Yaw during takeoffs AND Landings.

You are bitinf more than what you can chew, no wonder its ashes now. Land it against the wind, thats why I hate no wind days, unless you have flaps, then you can brake. Still, was a nice airplane and great video!

Very true, we all make mistakes and we learn from them. I have found that using a vanessa rig for finding the CG works great. Maybe something for you to try. Hopefully this link from RC Universe helps. www.rcuniverse.com/forum/tips-techniques-180/708060-vanessa-c-g-rig-how.html?styleid=7

Set the CG exactly where shown by the plans. Make sure to balance the plane laterally as well. Adjust your engine idle as slow as possible. Make your finals as long and stabilized as possible, with the engine idling all the way. You'll have nice landings forever. A perfect landing starts with a perfect approach. By the way, you have a very nice plane. Congratulations!

FLaperons , even small cubs take a long approach for them not to float away , try flaperons on that beauty if dedicated flaps arent there , they work very well in that type of landing situation . . . cheers

Yes , it looked off cg , but im only an 8month pilot , even as advanced as i am . . So you have flaperons or flaps installed , my cub requires 1/2 the distance to land with flaperons
