Each generation had its memorable music , mine was the 1970’s . Why ? Not because this was my teenage years but because it was fun music, no supposed deep mystical messages but just fun , light hearted enjoyable songs.
I ride an exercise bike every morning and listen to the great music from the 60s and 70s, makes the time pass swiftly. RU-vid will put a great mix together for you once they see your likes.
The Platters deserves to be treated as one of the top of the pops. This is no question about it. The voice is so soothing. Highly recommended to all the viewers and song lovers throughout the world.
The Platters. One of the BEST groups EVER! Tony Williams was smoother than silk and I believe underappreciated. He's one of the greatest singers I've ever heard.
Such a wonderfully constructed song from the 50's. The lead singer and back up singers have such a wonderful blend so skillfully done! The song has such a good story line to it too! I think they created a masterpiece!
My dad who died in 1989, never liked music, but he loved two songs. "I left My Heart In San Francisco" and "The Great Pretender". Make me tear up when I hear this song, miss my dad so much.
I never get tired of hearing this song. What a voice! I remember Mom playing their albums when I was growing up. She made sure we were exposed to all types of music not just rock and roll. I'm so glad she did.
The platters are wonderful they are a legend nobody can replace them they were very talented and anybody that can't see that knows nothing about beautiful singers. There music will go on forever.
There will never be music so beautiful as it was back in the 60's and 70's and there will never be the voices like it was back then either. Beautiful people, beautiful music, many hard times for most.
This was the first Platters song I heard 50 yrs ago, the memorie's of that time come flooding back. I wish this style of music came back, it is soooo romantic, my heart fills with joy when I hear any songs by this wonderful group The Platters. I'm 72 yrs, from Sydney Australia.
One of the greatest groups of the century. They don't make them like this anymore. One big hit after another. Reminds me of "make -out" time in my 49 Chevy. 84 and still a big fan.
And yet they weren't really doo-wop,were they? They were essentially blues, but thanks to their talented singer Sam Williams made an easy transition into rock'n'roll.Great, great group.
Richard Scanlan Isn't it Tony Williams? He's phenomenal! I've never thought of the Platters as a blues group although this particular song does have a sort of blues feel to it. But songs like Only You, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, and Unchained Melody are beautiful ballads but not blues songs, right? Whatever they did, it was incredibly beautiful and very professional. They were a cut above.
YES !!!!! I LOVED heari g my mom and dad playing The Platters music growi g up years ago, but, I also remember falling in love with the BEAUTIFUL lady singer 🤎🤎🤎
What absolutely fantastic memories. I was so lucky to be a teenager in the late 1950's to mid 60's. God, what I wouldn't give to do it all again and not change a thing.
In 1975, I was in the Air Force stationed in Bangkok, Thailand ... The Platters performed at our NCO Club two weekends in a row for $5/head. A show I will never forget.
Tony Williams taken way too soon @ 51. God must have wanted his beautiful voice in Heaven. So glad to have been a double nickel baby and grew up with such wonderful music.
WOW.! It seems like just yesterday, when I listened to The Platters, half way around the world, 18 yrs old high school kid in Vietnam; and now I am 81, in Sacramento, CA. The same vocal singer group, but with much more emotional feeling.! Never a split second that I feel tired or boring listening to this kind of music, especially , performed by favorite singers and bands of the old times. Thanks for posting.! Appreciated.
Listen to this … to be a teenager in the "50's" was truly one of the best times in history. Great music, great friends, great cars and dance nights were the absolute best of times.
Platters were my favorite group back in the day and this brings back so many memories. My favorite song by them was Harbor Lights - no one could sing it like them.
This is a timeless classic that will forever remain in our hearts. The Platters are one of the best groups of all time, and Tony Williams is an outstanding singer.
Simply loved it.....my dad used to listen to these songs and I am still listening to songs n music of this nature....just beautiful....hmmmm his voice.....ohhh woww
Great tune? Yes! But for my part, It's crowded out by "Only You" I believe this is a new lead singer who doesn't even approach the original, who could sing better than any bird that I ever heard! I only heard it, I never looked it up, in fact, I think now I will. This isn't the kind of song you'd hear it on. but on others, you surely can!
The Platters are and were one of music's all time greatest groups bar none. They and Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Bo Diddley dominated the early beginnings of Rock-Roll. Tony Williams had one of the greatest voices that the music world has ever heard. The Platters dominated the Billboards top 100 with great songs like: The Great Pretender, Twilight Time, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, My Prayer, The Magic Touch, I Love You 1000 Times. They had a lot of crossover white fans in their heyday. RIP to all of the former members of the groups including Sonny Turner who passed away around January 22, 2022.
PS ; Another of my favorite songs from the Platters were Only You. I believe that the Platters with Tony Williams didn't make I Love You 1000 times. I believe that the Platters with Sonny Turner did I Love You 1000 Times. May all the Platters who have left us Rest In Peace in the Rock-n-Roll Heaven.
Melody, harmony, lyrics that tell a story without one filthy word. One of the all time great songs and great performers. Today's junk can't even begin to hold a candle to this.
