Alrighty! In this video, join me as I leave the comforts of the Fontana Dam Village and Resort behind and enter the fearsome Great Smoky Mountains! I started solo in a light drizzle but that slowly turned into a steady rain throughout the day. There were no grand views due to the fog and mist, but the fog and mist provide a different perspective of the trail. :) Once I made it halfway to my goal, a man named Swampy (from the UK!) joined me for the rest of the day to Mollie's Ridge Shelter. He was great company and became one of the most memorable people on trail for me so far! At the shelter, he had me cracking up 😂 "I'm drying my bottom!" I didn't get too much footage from inside the shelter, though, because I didn't want to be rude. Just know that there were like 16 people in the shelter- pad to pad! And while all of our wet clothes were hanging up, none of them dried... Shelter life in the rain is... interesting.. haha you'll just have to experience it for yourself, I guess!
