You put this up for me at the right time. I JUST picked on up form Hunt's last week to use for photographing softball, if the seasons ever get going. I have shot a bit with it, some seascapes and horses on the beach to play with it and was very happy with its performance. Thanks again for the review AND your channel.

I have had the lens now for 2 months attached to my Canon R6 and shoot lots of Friday night football and women's varsity soccer at the same school. I think the lens is amazing and attached to the R6 might be the perfect combo.

I have this lens and love it. For baseball especially. Paired with a 7DII it's my back-up rig or is used by my second shooter, my son while I work with a big 400 2.8.

I bought this lens a few years ago. It did not disappoint. I use it on my Sony a9 along with the Sigma MC-11 adapter. I get sharp images and if focuses really fast. There is no noticeable lag time with this setup! I have used it for football, baseball, and track & field. I stilln want to try it on basketball, volleyball, soccer as well as some other sports. I have also used it at my church: I am on the Videography team. I always capture some really incredible shots!

Hi Billie, this video was a pleasant surprise as I have owned this lens for two years and love it. I use it primarily for high school baseball, softball and ladies lacrosse but its perfect for baseball. On day games with the additional light, I add the 1.4 TC and still get very sharp images. My primary camera is a Nikon D5 and this combo will focus super fast and works well even with high school ball field lights. I also own the Nikon 200-400 f4 but end up taking the 120-300 with TC for baseball, the 200-400 for Lacrosse and track events. It feels heavier to me than the Nikon 200-400 f4 and I don't mind the stiffness of zoom ring, probably moving lots of glass. I don't have the "programmer" but have micro calibrated this lens with the UK software company Reiken "Focal" and it wasn't far from neutral on the D5 " at +4. Our spring sports programs are about to wrap up here in Sebastian, Florida with only a couple district games to go. I always look forward to your videos, Ted

The Sigma 120-300mm 2.8 sport lens for Canon is my favorite for baseball and other sports where the variable focal length frames the image. Sharp images and fast focus after microfocus adjustments from the camera body's menu-not from the dock if using the lens on mutliple camera bodies. I will sometimes add the Canon 1.4x TC III for the extra 420mm f/4.0 reach, like soccer games. A downside is the slower burst FPS speed when proportionally increasing the f/stop number. This is due to the aperture closing lag time that will slow the burst speed rate. While this effect holds true for all lenses, this Sigma model is more apparent for this effect. At first I thought it was a defect in the lens until I tried another new lens at a photo dealer. At any rate for all sports coverage, I am always at f/2.8 for maximum camera's FPS.

I was also loaned one to try when it first came out. I needed one lens to shoot a motorsport event instead of my Nikon 300mm f2.8 and 70-200mm f2.8. I loved it except for when it was with the Sigma 1.4x converter. I found the AF speed, colours, contrast and sharpness were spot on.

Been using this lens for a little over a year now. Love it. I too found it soft with the 1.4, but once I calibrated my Nikon D5 it was spot on. I took over 1300 baseball pics with it last weekend with the 1.4 and couldn’t be happier.

Great video!! wondering 1. the difference in this lens and the non-sport edition and 2 how would this lens do with football? I'm a dad of a college football player looking to get some shots from the stands lets say 10 rows up so how would the distance be using this lens. Thanks for the info and again great video.

As always, dope video. This lens I have been seriously considering for football next season. I recently rented it and put it on my A9ii with mc-11 and shot baseball. I was very happy with it. Clarity was tack sharp and focus was good enough. That is the heaviest lens I've held. I think the focal length will work with my new A1 in aps-c mode for football. I wonder if they plan on making it on a sony mount?

Thanks Alex! Appreciate it. Definitely a consideration for football for sure. Agree that it's very sharp and definitely heavy haha. As of now I don't think they've announced if anything is planned or in development for Sony, but overall Sigma is definitely committed to supporting the E-mount system.

I have the non os version of this lens and the Zoom ring on it is super smooth. I picked it up for a bargain price used from a friend who was getting rid of all his Nikon gear and moving to Panasonic. It's so large that I don't use it all the time but even the older version of this lens is superb. I'm using it with a D810.

For anyone wondering how well this lens will shoot with the Canon R3, I can tell you It is absolutely a joy. I matched it with my Canon R3 and I haven't had any issues, and it gives the full 30 frames per second in auto focus. It really makes me wonder if I need to still purchase the Canon RF 100-300mm f/2.8

sounds like the best "budget" fast tele lens, for any camera. I think I wil adapt this to my a6400 - it will look silly but jt will give me 450mm f2.8 which is nuts. Do you think you could also do a test of this lens with the sigma tele converters ? I imagine especially the 1.4 to ne very good 🤷‍♂️

I'd be curious to hear how it works with an RF to EF adapter as well. Currently shooting with the Canon R6 and have had good results with the adapter on all of my lenses so far! I've been looking to upgrade and this looks like a really solid option.

Hey Seth, good question. Here's some feedback I have from Sigma: So far, all our lenses have performed quite well with Canon's OEM adapter. Some have needed firmware updates, but it looks like the 120-300 did not require anything specific for use with the Canon EOS R series, and should perform just fine. On-sensor autofocus may even be an advantage over using it on a DSLR.

@@sethpoplaski2127 I have rented this lens and it did fantastic with my 80d especially since i gained extra focal length due to crop magnification. To help with your question, I also have the R6 with an adapter for my L 2.8 lenses. While using the Sigma, everything worked fine in the beginning. However, I did notice that my fps dropped considerably with my R6 to about 5 fps plus the auto focus locked on me twice. I thought the camera had overheated. I turned the camera off and on and the auto focus worked fine. In all fairness, the issue could've been that my batteries were running low. I've read or seen somewhere that if the batteries are under a certain percentage, the camera may not run at optimum levels or it could've been an older model of the lens. Plus, it was a rental and who knows what the condition or age it is. Understand that I'm not bashing the lens or discrediting Billie. I feel that he's genuine and posts top notch, informative videos. I also love the lens and the price. I'd buy it before I buy a Canon 300/2.8 but before I buy one, I'll need to try the lens again with verified, fully charged batteries. Hope my comments have added valuable information. Great job Billie, please remain pure and humble. I thoroughly enjoy and find your videos to be informative.

Okay............this is on my list of must get!! Now need to find a demo one to see if I can afford it!! I am thinking for outdoor sports I can throw it on my 7D with an 2X extender and turn into a 600mm lens when needed.

So I just found this lens new on sale for $2800 so I ordered it. I expect to get it by Wednesday and hope to use it to shoot a State Soccer Semifinal game that evening on my 5D Mark iii. I noticed that in your video you weren't using the lens hood. As I continue to learn more about photography I was wondering if there was a specific reason the hood wasn't on. Also, I usually put a UV filter protective lens on since I am primarily shooting high school sports and was wondering your thoughts on this. Thank you.

Does the center of balance still shift fore and aft a bunch like the previous model when you zoom in and out? And did you really think the autofocus was fast enough in low light conditions?

If that canon 400 version 1 is the 2.8 that is still a super nice lens, although I think for the versatility this is a better option. I also think at this point the optics of this will be better than the old school Canon! And maybe still about the same price or less?

Yes, the lens will work fine with the Z6/Z7 and updated models. The last major compatibility info release was in late 2018!

Hey Matt. Same price - both the Canon and Nikon versions are $3599. Yes, it would mount to a 7D Mark II, but keep in mind with the crop factor you would get a focal length equivalent of around 192-480mm.

I can say I shot this lens for four months, everything from football to rodeo. If your using this lens a lot you will be disappointed, the zoom ring is backwards for Nikon shooters, if you use a tripod or monopod, the lens colar is so rigid it does not work well. The optics are good and perfect focal length. I sold mine at a beating and bought the Nikon version. There is a reason it cost so much more. Hey I thought I could deal with all this for 6000 difference. Since this is gonna be my go to lense, I was wrong.
