This is a short family home video shot on cine film. I post it for nostalgic and history reasons only but it may be of interest to those interested in the simple pleasures of the 60s.
During the early 60s I lived in Lowestoft which was about 5miles along the coast . In the Summer Yarmouth was the place for us teenagers to go at the weekend, in the winter it was like a ghost town but pure magic in the holiday season.
I still go here all the time. I’m only 13 but going to the beach and getting the sweets and ice cream will always be a fond memory for me :) nice to see the small changes
Lovely video, I live near GY and was born there. Those young men at 1:21 on the moving conveyor at the Pleasure Beach were about 20ish at the time if this was 1961/1962, so they would be in their late 70s or early to mid 80s now.
Last time I visited Gt Yarmouth just for a day out was over 20 years ago. (I lived in Norwich at that time) I sat alone on the beach with a bunch of Blacks playing football on one side and a bunch of Indians playing cricket on the other. I didn't mind. Like diversity. Hear it's full of junkies now.
Its a terrible place now homeless everywhere and immagrents hanging on street corners and rubbish everywhere this place is ruined now i used to love yarmouth but its a complete shithole now😢
What is the yodeling song towards the end? It's instrumental backdrop seems to be Wonderland by the Shadows but the words are quite intriguing - and Wonderland is an instrumental track.
