Greater Anglia Class 90 electric locomotives, a look back at their final years in service.
With the imminent introduction of the new Class 745 Stadler FLIRT electric multiple units on Greater Anglia intercity services 2020 is likely to be the last year for the Class 90s working on Great Eastern Mainline passenger trains.
This is part 1 of my video tribute to Greater Anglia Class 90s which have been working Class One services into London Liverpool Street since 2004.
Filmed at a variety of locations along the Great Eastern including Margaretting, Kelvedon, Marks Tey, Belstead Bank and Manningtree.

I am deeply sad about the Class 90s ending their duty on the London-Norwich intercity service. As the Class 745s have already started service. Adios Class 90s. #FarewellClass90.

Nice selection there Anthony, especially seeing the older and mixed livery formations. I really must make the effort and get across to do some filming on the GEML this Spring/Summer.

Some nice views there, and I think the GA livery really suits these sets quite well. Unlike the One livery and its subsequently rebranded variations, which was a total mess IMO. The Mk3s are REALLY dated inside now but I will miss them when they go all the same. The last of the British built intercity trains, will be the end of an era.

soundseeker63 The GA livery looks good when it’s clean, some of the sets are beginning to look a bit dirty and run down now as they come to the end of their working lives on the Great Eastern.

Lineside South East , I actually commented to GA about the filthy state of 90’s stock but they denied it and said that these trains were cleaned daily .

The sad thing about it: in the future there will be no loco-hauled passenger carriages anymore. It's all multiple units. Why is tha a pity? Simply because passenger carriages have no motor. It will never be that quiet again inside a train. I guess that's the price we have to pay for a few seconds of faster acceleration. The last remaining loco-hauled trains: TPE class 68 ("nova 3") and the Caledonian Sleeper.

Agreed, the loss of loco hauled trains is a pity. We still have the Chiltern 68s, the TFW 67s, GW sleepers and the proposed 90 and 91 services along the WCML as well as the ones you mentioned so all is not lost.

@@LinesideSouthEast Ah! So the class 90s and 91s will not be scrapped but another TOC takes them over?

@@MarioStahl1983 As far as I understand most of the 90s will go to Freightliner for freight work, Grand Central want some fo the 91s for new services into Euston. Phoenix Rail have already acquired some 91s for export to Europe, again for freight work.

@@LinesideSouthEast ah, okay. Well, that means the trend goes on. The loco-hauled passenger train is really going extinct. One can only hope that noise insulation will be further improved so that someday these multiple units offer the same comfort levels. I was actually astonished about the new Azumas. I expected them to be much noisier from the inside. Pretty good.

Iam a real big fan of the class 90s, but sadly nothing lasts forever. However I'm sure that there was the same disbelief when the 86s were replaced by the class 90s. I'm a big fan of the NEW stadler units with their awesome acceleration and articulated bogies. Greater Anglia won't be getting class 91s as I once thought that might happen. I'm trying to find a video of class 90s at Colchester when their was engineering work taking place, so alot of Horns/tones on that day in that video. Has anyone come across it at all.

Many thanks, very true that nothing last forever. I remember when the Norwich services were worked by 47s, then 86s, then 90s and now the new Stadler Flirts. Enjoy what is around now because you never know when it's going to get replaced by something else.
