Thank you for your videos! how is the progress of your greater siren tank within a year, since have you started it? would be great to have an update soon. Also please some comment/infos/hints about lights you use, thank you.
@slitheringsalamanderscapes6887
Thanks!! The tank is going great, but have had some algae issues (diatoms) in and off because of the silica load in the sand substrate. Animals are doing great. I typically use Nicrew LED lights that are suitable for plant growth.

Beautiful specimens. How are they doing now? I know from experience amphibians can be quite sensitive and difficult to keep sometimes.

They are doing great! Getting big

can sirens be kept with fish

I suppose some small fish, but I wouldn’t recommend. I had some small darters and the sirens ate them all.

I've got a Greater Siren Salamander over 36"+ and it's in a 150gl tank. It's not a hider it's out and about salamander. I feed mine raw frozen shrimp, and it likes my sinking dry turtle food. I still don't know what it's sex is? I'm in south Florida where it was found when digging out my pond and it likes hard water...

Hey, where did you order them from?
@slitheringsalamanderscapes6887
A person on Caudata.org had bred them and had a few extra.

Great video! I'm hoping to get into sirens when I have more tank space and time. I'm in a sirens group on FB and I'm hoping to get some dwarfs from one of the people breeding them eventually.

I have had 2 for a year and they are interesting creatures. We found ours wild that we had to rescue as their home was torn up by a crew expanding our ditch near the business I work.

@@slitheringsalamanderscapes6887 the two I had taken in were actually next to their predator that eats their young sadly one of them got attacked before we found out the other species and released them at another location. Poor thing (named whooper) now has scars mangled all over it and the second one (named Plank) had 1/3 of its left gills chomped clean off. Plank is very comfortable around us and even lets us pet him he almost exhibits behavior like he likes it or a minimum he’s fascinated by the sensation. From what I’ve seen the can come out durring light hours if they feel safe enough and you develop a routine with them. I saw how they don’t have the best eyesight but they seem to completely run off scent alone as sounds or vibrations in the water don’t make them respond but as soon as the smell hits them they spring to action. It’s hard learning about them as there is so little to learn about them.
