The greatest $100000 win in Pyramid History with Barry Jenner, took 27 seconds to get through all 6 topics. Includes post winning celebration and ending.
Barry Jenner was absolutely badass when he was on Pyramid. He gave great clues and was so damn enthusiastic and seemed like he genuinely wanted the contestants to win. He was awesome.
What I loved about this show was the way Dick Clark treated the bonus round, especially the $100,000 one. He really made it seem bigger that it was and gave it just this real tension.
I went back and counted. Barry Jenner said a total of 27 words, including repeats of clues, to get him up that pyramid in 27 seconds. Locked. Friggin. In.
I remember seeing this when it first aired on local tv here in Las Vegas in syndication. I was stunned at how quick they did that ! That was pretty darn spectacular. He totally deserved that $100,000 !!
Back in the 70s, when this was taped at a theater on W. 58th Street, NYC, NO ONE was allowed to run up on stage, not even a spouse - they'd let them up during the commercial break, but never would they let the shots be interrupted. Also, I was amazed how much smaller the set looked in real life. We used to go during all school breaks, and especially during the summer, and I have a bookful of autographs I got from Pyramid tapings, even Dick Clark himself.
My dad and I went to see a show from the current run of $100,000 Pyramid during its first season. I think the studio was somewhere in the West Sixties. The studio had always been used for soaps so it wasn't used to having an audience. There were so many rules (like leaving your cell phone and getting a claim check before you could get in the elevator). But the studio was ridiculously small.
The stage hands were swinging the trilons back and forth - cheaper and more effective than confetti. They were celebrating along with the contestants even though could not be seen on camera.
@@diamonddog13 most episodes he did there were a few where he stayed and talked to the celebs and contestants. There were also a few episodes of the $10 $20 and $50k pyramid where he would walk off then come back during the credits
That’s easy to say from the outside; try sitting in either chair in that winners circle, with $100,000 on the line (or however much that would be today-$500,000? $1,000,000? More?)…that’s a FAR different matter.
The all-time best television game show, IMO. To belong on this show, contestants and celebs had to be not only intelligent, but quick and clever, and possess a broad vocabulary. A slice of daytime heaven; an oasis! Well, there were some pretty bad weeks here and there with "matching" terrible celebrity players - at least this gave the contestants a fair shot!
+Jeff Brown I'm surprised, no laughs. A few years later, there was one category, "Things that are stiff."...the celebrity gave clues, "An erection, a well starched shirt." Thankfully, the contestant nailed it. The celebrity said, "Are we still on the air?"
Brent: That's hilarious! What's just as funny is your (perhaps unintentional), "the contestant NAILED IT!" ha. Thanks for sharing this. Do you happen to remember who the celebrity was, by chance?
+Jeff Brown Unfortunately, I don't. One would have to keep digging on the computer!!! I believe John Davidson was hosting at the time, which I never watched...when John hosted.
This was such a great show. Dick Clark was an amazing host. The wins on this show are somehow more enjoyable and energetic than any other game show in history.
One thing that Dick Clark was an absolute GOD at was building the suspense... even though silence on TV was usually considered death, between 0:36 and 0:50 he's not afraid to just let the silence... sit there... for up to 4 seconds at a time. Brilliant.
Aired Friday September 10th 1987. 8th tournament win. As Barry Jenner helps MG McCormick go top of pyramid in 27 seconds winning $100k. Lynn Davis & Marylin Richardson were contestants in playoff. His total $133,650 dollars.
I decided to read the comments to maybe learn what became of MG. I’m so sad to read this. I’ve watched this clip more than a few times and was so happy for MG. He was such a likeable contestant. May your friend rest in peace.
So sad to hear the winner here died a few years after this. Hopefully he got to enjoy his winnings before he died. Barry Jenner was great with his clues!
what i love is the genuine reaction of the celebrities when they help people win. etiher their really good actors or they really feel that excited...............
Just as I Thought… here he is with Barry Jenner racing to the top of the Pyramid in only 27 seconds. He really knows how to play this game. Kenneth A Huang 7/17/2022.
I loved the part in the background where the stagehands would move the trilons back and forth after the win. It was like they were congratulating him from backstage in their own way.
@@millenniumman75 okay.......... not that I'm putting them down, but I wish their reflexes would have been a little bit more tighter during the round. But you have to have a keen sense of hearing, that when you hear the answer, you could do the fastest flip ever. Just recalling Billy Crystal's round
I'm also guessing that the audience rush-in (and the "trilon wiggle" ) was done in lieu of confetti/balloons just in case the $100,000 was won in the first WC Round.
This was taped in Studio 33 at CBS Television City in Hollywood (the Bob Barker studio). It seats 325 people but they had to remove about 25 seats in order to install a ramp for the center camera and crane. That left about 300 seats (not that all the seats were filled). It looks like the entire audience ran up on stage.
I know somebody said this on another video but the when the audience swarms the stage its like he just made the game winning shot in a college basketball game.
THIS, right here, is how you scale the Pyramid! Great, short and precise clues to the subjects given. ("Old woman's breasts. Wow!) Grew up on this stuff. Dick Clark is missed without a doubt. Too bad the new version isn't a daily show, because those 'Tournament of Champion's series can get intense when playing against the clock time of other contestants. They were a highlight of this classic game.
MY GOD! It makes me absolutely insane to see a lot of people run up on stage like that after the big win. Just allow about two or three people on stage and not about half the audience.
what a win. there has been only one time that a winner's circle was done faster, with Billy Crystal in 26 seconds. But, still, fantastic job. and great clues
I think it's great the way people rush the stage. It adds to the energy and excitement of a great win. All of the naysayers know very well that if their friend was on stage and won, they would be running up there too.
Not only was it not stupid, it was one of the greatest clues ever given on this show. He could say nothing EXCEPT the correct answer after being given that clue.
