What's really crazy about Pink Floyd's 1994 "The Division Bell World Tour, (that this Pulse Concert is part of), is the massiveness of the Tour and the stage itself. The stage, lighting and sound system are Pink Floyds, they had it built for this world tour, "The Division Bell World Tour. The tour ran from March to October 1994, with something like 110 concerts in 68 cities in 17 countries. Actually, they built 3 stages that were exactually the same, lighting, rigs, sound systems, everything,... 3 in total. They needed 3 stages for the North American leg of the tour, because it took so long to load-in, set up and tear down and load-out. Load-in and setup took 3 days and tear down and load-out took another 2 and 1/2 days, so they needed more than 1 stage to perform all the shows in North America. Over 50 trailer trucks transporting over 700 tons of steel with over a 100 person crew needed to do the job. When the band arrived at the next city to perform, the stages, including light and rigs, were all setup and ready to go. After 3 or 4 shows in a city, the band left for the next city, and members of the crew packed up the stage. When the band arrived at the next city, another stage and equipment was all setup ready to go, then repeat, again and again. It was the largest world tour ever and the logistics were off the charts, Pink Floyd does everything on a grand scale! This particular concert was near the end of the tour in October, it was at Earls Court in London.
I bought "The Wall" in 1980 for my 16 year old son. I played it all and read the lyrics. I was stunned.. I listened to it all over. At 2a.m. I got up and listened to it again. My son never got the album and I still have it.I am 83, and I think it's time I should give it to him. Your obvious strong reaction to Pink Floyd is extremely pleasing to me. Gilmore is truly the most talented guitarist in my. lifetime, and beyond. I wish you a long and happy life, enjoying beautiful music.
Every song from Pulse Live will amaze you. That being said, here at Pulse they are already 30 years into the game. Be sure to also watch them Live when they were young ... "ECHOES" : LIVE IN POMPEII 1971/72 🙂
Someone had said that you hear that first solo and you think that was the greatest guitar solo you've ever heard, then you hear the second solo and think THAT was the greatest guitar solo you've ever heard
You owe it to yourself to stick with this Pulse concert. Each song's a gem, and the light show is state-of-the-art. Some pieces have that extra glow: High Hopes, Wish You Were Here, Sorrow, One Of These Days, and the mind-blowing concert finale-----Run Like Hell. Hope you react to all of these when you get a chance.
Everything from Pulse is Epic!! Industrial Light and Magic, the folks who brought you the Star Wars special effects had a hand in the light show. Masters of talent in both music and light at work here! I doubt this combination of talent will ever be topped.
I saw this tour when I was living in Atlanta. The best way to describe it was what my friend said when the show ended, she said "I'll never be able to describe this to anyone".
I was there too. If I remember correctly the first night sold out right away and a second night was announced. I was able to go the second night ( I kinda lucked out since it rained the first night and Bobby Dodd was an open stadium lol)
@RevRedmondFarrier I can't remember which night we went to but we had great seats down on the field, maybe between the 30 and 40 yard line. It was a chilly, misty, foggy night. I remember watching the Coca-Cola sign dissappear and reappear, it added to the show 😆.
It's kind of hard to overstate or exaggerate the greatness that is Pink Floyd - David Gilmour live. Let this relinquish all doubt for future recommendations. I saw the concert live in Chicago (Soldier Field) that summer. As they neared the crescendo of this epic solo and the sides of that ball fell away to reveal a blinding light, the skies above lit up with lightning and rumbles of thunder adding the most dramatic effect you could possibly imagine to an already stunning display of light and sound and fury. It was as if God himself wanted in on the action! And knowing Floyd, they just may have arranged it it!! "Sorrow" from Pulse next. And you got to hit "Wish You Were Here" from it as well. Dave does a great rendition here. Loving your journey, bro. ✌️
Your Gen need to see and appreciate the Talent and Quality of the Music from our Gen. Next time you see 70-80 year olds you may feel very different knowing our Music up bringing. 🇦🇺
Went to this tour when they hit Pittsburgh. The concert was held outdoors at the old Three Rivers Stadium. The lightshow and sound system were unbelievable! They had speakers ringing the field, they had 'em ringing the mezzanine deck, they had speakers ringing the very top of the stadium. Hell! They even had speakers strung in a starburst pattern above the stadium! It was literally 360° surround sound. You didn't just hear the music, you felt it! Yet it was the cleanest sound system I ever heard at a concert. Pittsburgh City Council actually had them tone down their lightshow because they were afraid it would interfer with airliners landing at Pitt International Airport. 😂 And it was still amazing!
You always have the best reactions and your facial expressions are priceless and say it all. Thank you so much for sharing your reaction to this amazing piece of work.
Well Joe, it's probably impossible to single out any any of the Pulse concerts tracks/songs, because everyone will have their personal favourites....You may as well begin with the opener 'Shine on You crazy Diamond' and just keep going one by one. They perform the entirety of DSOTM after the first break by the way.... Always remember, your favourite Pink Floyd song will be the next one you hear..... Great reaction BTW....
When the moon lighting rig rotates down and focuses on David's head from above... it's like God saying, "Approved. Here's your halo. Please continue.".
I was there - Earls Court , London. Sadly this iconic venue no longer exists . Easily the best concert i have ever been to - i was 21 years old at the time - can’t quite believe it was 30 years ago .
As someone who was fortunate enough to be at this show, I'll offer you 2 smidges of advice...watch it once with eyes open, uninterrupted, then play it again with eyes closed and feel it.
My favorite song on Pulse, and also my favorite piece of music ever is the version of Sorrow from this concert. The atmosphere, message and solo of it is unlike anything else
I was there at Earls Court in 94 and tbh we just took it for granted. Living in London in those days we'd be seeing ACDC on one week, Rush, Bowie or Queen on another. A special time but at the time we didn't realise how special until you look back. Floyd concerts were always special though. Just about any song from the Pulse concert is a banger but I think my favorite is "Sorrow"
This performance is rated in the top 10 guitar solos of all time on all charts they played it many times live but this performance never exactly repeated itself.
Pink Floyd fan of 50 years here...earthy blues presented in the most cosmic and trippy way possible. A seductive combination. My favorite band of all time. You'll want to watch SORROW from the same concert and be prepared to get tripped out by Gilmour's guitar playing ....I mean waaaaaay tripped out.
There's no way to describe what it was like to be at the Pulse concert live (Oakland, CA). Absolutely the BEST live performance ever.

Bought my first album in '74', my second was Dark Side of The Moon up at Humboldt State. Saw them in '94' in Oakland at the Coliseum. Their live concerts are Amazing. The lasers were going everywhere. They had huge covered wagons above their amplifier decks. Then the giant pig heads came out of the wagons. It was cool, but also hilarious. Shedmen (sorry, geandson has showed me how to get one of those addresses with@
How about that as a taste of Pulse...? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yes, I was there, first european venue, Lisbon July94. 80000 People hipnotized. Pulse is great. Every song. Most requested are usually Sorrow and High Hopes. Personally I prefer One of These Days, even though the Best version of this song is in Live at Pompei. Watch Echoes in the Pompei concert. Greatest Floyd song ever. Greatest song ever. Ask Andrew Lloyd Weber...
I was at three of those Pulse concerts (this one and the two nights before) and if THAT solo had been 20 times longer nobody there would have cared. This was the band's 2nd encore - by the time they got to this, they had been playing for nearly 2 and a half hours You should check out 'On The Run' from the same concert. I have seen this full concert well over 100 times and I am still finding things for the first time!
Best is a very very subjective thing for Pink Floyd fans. It changes from decsde to decade to suit the moments and stages of your life. As you will see. I'm 52. Learning to Fly shaped my life at 16. And Eclipse has taken over my head lately. Like most of their songs have at some stage.
Please do the entire Pulse concert in segments, the entire concert is Awesome and I'm sure you will enjoy it, It's a perfect way to enter the Pink Floyd rabbit hole and continue the journey from there, Oh one more thing, your headline says Comfortably Young, it's actually Comfortably Numb 😜 God Bless
Aside from their early psychadelic years wth Syd Barret (previous to Dave), where they would wear these very dandy and colorful outfits, the bands posture and stance was always very casual. Wardrobe was not a worry for these guys, at all. What mattered was the performance and the show, no need for fancy outfits. I was lucky to witness this display of human greatness back in 1994, in one of their shows in Lisbon/Portugal. I can't even describe it.
Was lucky t get a ticket fer this run at Earls Court. BEST gig i ever saw. A non smoking arena which filled with a lovely aroma of (ahem) something once the houselights dimmed and the 1st notes dropped.
I was at this concert, you need to turn the volume up to get the real effect, at the concert the sound just hit you, you could feel every note. It was screaming when you have a ballad. To hear another great solo, listen to "Sorrow" from the same concert. Or you could try "On the Turning Away" which is absolutely beautiful but they didn't do it at Pulse however there are videos of it on RU-vid from earlier concerts.
First saw them in a hall in Kent in the 60s when they were supporting Hendrix and The Move. The last time was at Earls Court for the Pulse gigs. Lucky enough to grab tickets for 6 nights. Best gigs ever.
David Gilmore is the best. My son introduced me to listen to Pink Floyd. Bobby got the video of PULSE and enjoyed watching it. My favorite is RUN LIKE HELL. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Yes, the Chicago show 25th row to the left. 2 hits of wonderful window pain LSD and a big chunk of blonde hash. Lovely evening of music. The Animals tour Cleveland 77 was unreal.
David Gilmour just released Luck and Strange’ he’s going to be touring… I know it isn’t Pink Floyd, but it’s a great piece of work. He’s one of my favorite guitarist Ever🎶🎸
When I saw this show, I really thought someone spiked my beer when there appeared a giant boar with laser eyes looking at me...the thoughy only occurred for a split second because at the time, I could have been lit on fire and wouldnt have moved or noticed...😂😂😂😂
Why does it bring me joy seeing someone baptized with this performance? Impressive tracks throughout Pulse. Listening to all of Pulse creates an event in your life. Highly recommended. Have fun!
This is such a thrilling performance! I suggest checking out 'Sorrow' from this same concert. A dark, intense song and the whole band is on fire! Also, David Gilmour has a new solo album coming out this fall. He released a music video featuring his daughter, Romany, a talented musician in her own right. The song is called 'Between Two Points' and features Romany on lead vocal and David on guitar. It's a haunting song and I can't get it out of my mind. While i never saw Pink Floyd live, I did see David Gilmour on his 2016 solo tour when it came through Chicago. He was 70 years old that year and still sounded amazing!
"Gilmour looks like he just came off the street". From the start in the 60s, Pink Floyd did NOT want to be "out front" "look at me" guys. Notice their photos were never on their album covers...VERY unusual back then. It's also why they were innovators in light shows and visuals at their live concerts.
Great to hear your reaction to one of the greatest ever (IMHO) rock concerts. Would recommend you react to ‘Sorrow’ from the same concert - the sounds David Gilmour produces from his guitar on that song are incredible. It’s well worth listening to the whole Pulse concert.
David's solo in ( On The Turning Away live at the Delicate Sound Of Thunder Concert ) Will blow your mind ;) Also you don't listen to Pink Floyd you experience them.
Not only Pink Floyd but check out Dave's solo work. " Live at Gdansk" songs " take a breathe" " echoes for the last time" " On an Island" ( backing orchestra) " Live at Pompeii" Songs "in any tongue" " The Blue" This song played for the last time.
I'm glad you chose this one, rather than the version where David Mallet made ridiculous choices in the name of cinematography. I'm also glad there were commercials in between. Otherwise, you almost lost yourself early. We have generally been crying at the end of the long guitar solo of this masterpiece for years.
Quick heads up: David is releasing a new album on Sept.6 and touring with a new ensemble (mostly - Guy Pratt will still be manning the bass) from late October into the winter. I will be there on Nov. 9 at Madison Square Garden, but there are more dates in NYC, LA, London and Rome, and perhaps other places as well by now. If there is any way you can possibly still get your hands on a ticket, do it, find the money. The man is 78 and there won't be many (if any) more chances to hear the GOAT perform live on stage.
"Sorrow "Pulse has an equally great solo. There were 13 shows. Mmates and I went to town on the weekends. It was mental. The Ferraris Lambos etc. Clubs were mental. Check out the crowd. Men are dressed like Nick Mason. People flew into town from all over the World for 1 of these shows. It was mental.
You mentioned that you wish you could see David Gilmour live. He's doing another tour, (North America and Europe) in October 2024. Also, check out two other songs. 1st, Echoes, the final performance, (from 2006) and "In any tongue" and "Comfortably Numb" from his "Rattle that Lock" world tour (from 2016.) Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Keep in mind in 2016 he was 70. In October 2024 he'll be pushing 80. He keeps getting better.
Joe, studio album versions are good, but live is when Pink Floyd is at their best. I believe the Pulse Concert is probably their best but there are other live performance that are great too. Check out Live at Pompei or Delicate Sound of Thunder. Oh hell, they're all great! Love your reactions. You are so genuine and it's ok to stop to avoid the copyright infringement, just not during a David Gilmore solo. LOL
Not only Pink Floyd, we actually had the Yin and Yang Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, the black and the white. Check out Led Zeppelin "Since I've Been Loving You" live at Madison Square Gardens 1973 😉 Pink Floyd "Echoes (Part 1) live at Pompeii 1972 😉
Suggestion: If you wanna see some live material from them that was made earlier than this, then I highly suggest watching the "Live in Pompeii" concert film from 1972. Although I love it, I do have to say all of the songs on it are pre-Dark Side of The Moon so the songs don't have exactly the same style as what you've already reacted to, but I would still check it out.
The Progressive Rock genre music produced in the 1970s is simply amazing. After your Pink Floyd deep-dive, I suggest that you check out some songs by other Prog bands like "Kansas", "Yes", and "Rush".
Well, here we go ... I agree that a hundred per cent of the Pulse live concert is worth your attention. But, also, it'd be interesting to see them in a different mode - playing live in the ancient, empty, half ruined Roman stadium in Pompei, Italy, way back in about 1971 I think it was. Search "echoes pink floyd' live. It takes a while to build, but it's very much worth the wait.
You’re right: Gilmore IS one of the greatest guitarists of all time. But you’ve just started on this journey. Give yourself time to discover many other fantastic guitarists and bands. Gilmore will still be one of the greatest, and perhaps will remain THE greatest for you. But you have more to discover before you can know that for sure. Have you heard and watched Hendrix? Page! Van Halen? Iommi? Beck? And literally 20 more. Gilmore is probably the most emotive guitarist I’ve heard, but other great masters of the instrument all have their gifts to bring to you. Enjoy the smorgasbord of offerings. Enjoy the journey. One warning: The Hendrix estate is notorious for blocking, as are Eagles, The Beatles and King Crimson. The others might block temporarily but they won’t go after your channel. At least that’s what I’ve heard from multiple reactors. Good luck, young man. Have a great time! ✌️
LOL great reaction to a wonderful song. I suggest the next one from the Pulse Concert should be "The Great Gig in the Sky"...that will really open your mind to what's possible with these brilliant musicians and singers. After that...more beautiful singing from God's Guitarist Sir David Gilmour and more guitar heroics from "On The Turning Away". These 3 songs played live, will live with your forever.
