As a young man myself, I saw the animals album concert. Of maybe 200 shows in the 70s, this animals tour with the flying pig huge, pigs on the wing, then exploded scattering choc gold coins into Money. Fantastic concert.
Syd was a gem of a man, he started Pink Floyd. This was for him. I am a Floydian of over 50yrs. I saved up my pocket money to buy this LP when it came out. The excitement of playing it on my small record player. I hid myself in my room for days. I was 15/16yrs old. We had the best time. PF will be played forever like Beethoven& Mozart ❤️🙏
I love the studio version. The build up at the end in that version is absolutely... wow. I think it depends on the person if they'll like echoes live or studio more, but I appreciate some love for my favourite version.
The one song David Gilmour has said he will never play again, as it was something special, between himself and Richard Wright, who has sadly passed now..

And that burnt "effect" on the upper right side of the white frame around the picture is actually a burnt white paper frame that Strom Thorgenson placed on top the stuntmen photo. He then placed a glass plate on top of it to hold it in place and took a picture of the composition. No painting, no drawing, no photoshop, no CGI. Just a piece of paper with a cutout square hole and a match, essentially.
Sid got into LSD and it literally blew his mind. BTW, the band was named by Sid after two black Piedmont blues guitarists and singers, Pink Anderson and Floyd Counsel, that Sid really loved. The song is composed with nine separate segments that all sound like different songs.
When we of a certain age say that the music of Floyd, Sabbath and Zep is the greatest ever created we are not messing around. And to watch a pure emotional reaction is an absolute pleasure. Welcome.

I bought my first Pink Floyd album in 1969 (Ummagumma) and saw them live in 1971 and 4 more times after that. For me This is the BEST band of all times. Now I'm 71 years old and still listen to them everyday.🤩

@@BobbyGeneric145 I don't hate it, but it REALLY misses Waters on vocals and bass. Waters was the one who brought the edge to peak period Floyd, and it became laid back without him for the most part.
Obviously, as anyone who loves music knows, it's almost, if not entirely impossible, to pick one overall, favourite track of all time. But this is always, always up there. There are a bare handful of songs that vie for that spot, for me, and this is always a strong contender. It's just special. It always will be. Hundreds of years from now, if humanity is still a thing (!), this will be played alongside Bach and Beethoven, as proof that humans can do magical things. A stunning piece of music.

I would disagree that Echoes studio is best. David Gilmour's live at Gdansk version adds, not only parts 1 & 2 performed together, but also the visual beauty that only "Pink Floyd" live can accomplish.
if you don´t listen to "Shine on you crasy Diamond" Part VI-IX your reaction is never complete and you missed another musical experiance in your Life. "Music is now ruined for me" is a perfect Discribtion for young People like you, because you notice yourself in which low level Music you grow up. But it is nice to see, how you react to great Music. No other Band compare with Pink Floyd, they are the Masters of Musik. Only Bach or Beethoven are on the same Level. What David Gilmour, Richard Wright, Roger Waters and Nick Mason, have composed in Songs and Album´s is a gift for humanity. That being said: do not forget that Floyd - in their time - wasn‘t just the greatest but also the biggest Live-Band for 3 decades. Please add for starters to your list: 1) Echoes - Live in Pompeii 1971/72 2) Comfortably Numb - Live Pulse 1994 🙃
I've given your comment a thumbs up, for the recommendations. However, there's no need to lie or exaggerate, in order to illustrate how great Floyd were. Their talent, their albums, their performances and the facts do that. Floyd weren't the biggest live band for 3 decades and as for 'greatest' that's very subjective. The Beatles, in the 60s became the biggest, most influential, most innovative and most successful act in the history of music! Lennon and McCartney are commonly cited as the greatest songwriters of the modern era and Harrison was on a similar level. They changed music forever! By the end of the 60s, Led Zeppelin were matching them re' sales an in the 70s were the biggest band in the World and the biggest live act too! Apart from their first album (top 10) every one of their studio albums and their double live album, went to number 1 in the UK, the US and in countless countries all over the World! The only exception being Led Zep IV, which only reached number 2 in the States, though ironically it stayed on the US charts for years and became their biggest selling album there. To this day they have sold more albums than Floyd. Only one group, the Beatles have sold more than Zeppelin. They were renowned for their live performances and became the prototype for every stadium rock band that followed. They sold out stadiums and other large venues, all over the World, year after year! They even broke attendance records! It helped that all 4 members are leading candidates for 'GOAT' on their particular instrument/s. They were much better musicians than Floyd. Only Gilmour from Floyd, was on a similar level. Zeppelin are arguably the greatest and most talented rock band of all-time! As for later decades I don't know who the greatest or the biggest live bands were but it wasn't Floyd. By the 80s, although still popular, it was recognised that Floyd's heyday was in the 70s and that they weren't the same without Waters. Despite David's undoubted and captivating virtuosity it was never really the same. Other groups were definitely bigger and played to larger audiences and this was even more the case in the 90s. Pink Floyd sit in my personal 'big 4'. They always will. Their music is timeless! They remain the 3rd biggest group in music history and the 2nd or third most influential. They remain one of the most innovative bands of all-time too. They have the 3rd best selling album of all-time and the biggest selling double album of all-time. Their live shows were renowned and they've played to millions over the years. They are bona fide musical giants and I doubt there'll ever be another Floyd! They remain highly popular to this day. Their legacy is unchallengeable and secure. No need to invent 'facts' in an misplaced attempt to boost that legacy. :)
McCartney himself has cited Floyd as one of his personal favorites. Pulse was 1994, and speaking as someone who was there at 19 years of age, it was the concert of the decade. Other than it being a 6 album run of sonic gold, not 5, you're absolutely correct. The Beatles are iconic, and redefined rock and roll. But love them or hate them, Pink Floyd is a genre of one. Nobody else does music like this.

Obviously Parts VI-IX are now required. The two pieces bookend the album, which was the idea Rodger Waters pushed for so that the followup to Dark Side Of The Moon would stand up as a great album with purpose, which it does. I first heard this album as a BBC (UK) preview before official release in 1975, played in it's entirety without interruption. Totally mind bending as a 12 year old slightly older in musical taste because of an older brother. Man, Who's Next, Led Zeppelin iV, .... so lucky looking back

David Gilmore has to be one of most immaculate of guitarists. Thats, for me the best way to describe his playing. Immaculate. He just doesn't put a note wrong in his solos.

The older I get, the more of Pink Floyd I listen to, the more I get from it. Obscured by clouds, Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish you were here, and The Wall are all incredible. Listen to all of them again and again.

this entire album is the only album that could possibly have followed The Dark Side of the Moon it took a couple of years to and alot of work and help, even just bringing in Roy Harper to sing one song seemed to make a big difference to the studio mood
It is true that first time through the discography the last Pink Floyd you heard is your favourite. 45 years ago as a 11 year old kid this was the first Pink Floyd I heard and it made me a fan. But after living with PF as the sound track through life this is still my favourite - all 9 parts. It is a masterpiece of symphonic rock music. If only this was the direction music took the world would be so different. But as this album itself so eloquently tells us, the tasteless Titans of the music industry are driven by cash and many super talented musicians get burned up while they just get to ride the gravy train. I love your honest first reaction and know you have been transformed. When you said it has "ruined" music for you, you don't yet realise the blessing hmthise words represent. The burning musical power of their songs, and the uplifting melodic artistry of their compositions mean you will never be taken in by what passes for pop music today. The best is thankfully safely prserved in discs and videos, and like the artists of the baroque and classical eras, people will look back at this gorgeous flowering of symphonic electronic art and weep.
When I think of what my favorite song is, it's always hard to not put this first. If it's not my favorite, it's at least the best song I've ever heard. So much feeling behind it.
Pink Floyd is my life's memories, thoughts & reflections. So many images flit through my mind during each second of Pink Floyd albums. Yet, only from Meddle to the Wall. Earlier stuff was more psychedelic that did not massage your mind & mind's eye. I pulled into a Christmas tree stand while listening to Us & Them. That song reminds me of that time of year from that moment on. The saxophone on some songs beckons thoughts of rainy days. etc. No other band has done this.

I don't know if you've heard any of the 1994 Pulse concert yet, but if you think music has been ruined for you now, you still have another big treat ahead of you. Every song from that concert is a masterpiece of live performance, and it includes not only the entire Dark Side of the Moon album performed in sequence, but also the most epic David Gilmour guitar solo you or any of us is ever likely to hear. Most who have heard it say it's the best live rock guitar solo ever performed and I'm inclined to agree.

Also, Dogs of War live from the Delicate Sound of Thunder concert has a great sax solo. That's a really underrated song.🤘🏽
There is simply NO REPLACEMENT of REAL TALENT in the music industry. The 60s & 70s were FULL of Absolutely True Talent, PERIOD. Pink Floyd is an EXPERIENCE, not just music.
This is more of a lament- rather than a thank you-- for their bandmate and friend, Syd Barrett's life. It's bittersweet in that they really loved Syd and then lost him. Lyrically-- it's bitter and biting while the music takes us on a journey to a place of desperate regret for their friend and for their own loss.
the first time I hear Diamond was on Dark Side of the Moon Tour in Vancouver. they opened with Cigar Diamond and Wish long before the Album was Released. Then they played Dark Side front to back and encored with Echos. Well that is how I remember it there was a lot of Blue Smoke at that show.
It's a suite of six parts. Any song from the Pulse concert is EPIC. Just pick one and go. David's Pulse solo from "Comfortably Numb" has been rated by some and the best guitar solo of all time. I agree.

Knowing a bit about Syd Barrett and his importance to early Pink Floyd makes this song so much more emotional in my opinion. David Gilmour's guitar calling out to their old friend is sadly beautiful.
Syd turned up at the studio while this the albums was being recorded, after many years since loosing touch . No one recognized him as he had put on so much weight and shaved his head. Only after some time someone recognized him, but no words were exchanged
Echoes from the album Meddle…studio version. For me, their masterwork. And ANYTHING from their Pulse concert tour in 1994. But you should hear studio first, as we all did. Then you can just relax and soak in the atmosphere of their live concert. Some of the best, if not THE best live rock music concert in history.
as a gen X when I first heard this coming from more straight forward music background, I rejected this at the start, but then I listen to it a 2 and 3rd time and I loved it. for me this is their best album darkside is 2nd for me.

you're not done.there is still parts 6-9 to go. when they made the 'wish you were here" album there was no way to put the full "shine on you crazy diamond" on one side of a record or tape. so they split it up to where it opens and closes the album with a few songs in between. as a concept album it actually works better that way.
The photograph of the burning man was taken at Warner Bros. Studios in Hollywood. The term ‘consumed by the system’ came up regularly during work meetings with the members of Pink Floyd, and it was an idea that caught on. Two Hollywood stuntmen were called in for the photo shoot, Ronnie Rondell (the burning man) and Danny Rogers. Rondell was dressed in a fireproof suit and a helmet topped with a wig. Aubrey Powell was in charge of the shots and had planned several takes but a strong wind compromised his plans, blowing the flames back onto the stuntman’s face. Rondell then refused to do it again and only a handful of photos resulted from the project.

Yep, I felt like that when I heard it at mb 13 years old. I've been into all sorts of stuff since then from punk to Holst and it still holds up as one of the greatest pieces of Art imho

Hi this is the 1st time ive visited your channel & just OMG WoW i SO **Luv** your reaction to this song & it seemed like it was definitely moving you in some kind of way i started listening to **Pink Floyd** when i was 8 years old sitting in my older sisters bedroom by myself lights off headphones on full BLAST as always & they just emotionally wrecked me the way Gilmour plays that guitar it is like human outcries to me they made me cry a LOT heh whilst listening to many of their songs BUT at that same time i was also listening to **MyBelovedOtherWorldlyLedZeppelin** & my instant **MadLuv** **MyBeautifulJimmyPageMagicalMusicalGeniusWizardBabe** & well both these bands are the ONLY two bands to ever consistently put me in a **Trance** like an out of body experience where time & space stops my surroundings disappear & i am no longer here which now is an utter **Gift** to me since i suffer with severe chronic pain now & whilst i am listening to either of these bands for those moments when i am in that **Trance** i feel NO pain & it is complete **Bliss** they are beyond **Magical** they are out of this world there will NEVER be anything like them again both these bands have saved my life countless times they are **Treasures** they are **Glorious Gifts** to this crazy planet anyway i could go on & on about them & how **Luvd** & **Cherished** they are to me & how they are THE **Best** bands in the world **Especially** **MyBelovedLedZeppelin** they are my MOST **Luvd** band EVER so anyway i just subscribed cuz well i **Luv** how much you seem to truly appreciate **Genius Music** & also in **Hopes** that you will someday give **MyBeautifulMagicalLedZeppelin** a listen & i am **Hoping** you will fall in **Luv** with them as well since you asked if there were any other bands such as **Pink Floyd** the answer of course is NO ha cuz course each of these bands are SO very **Special & Unique** in each their own **Fantastical Mind Blowing** ways but like i said to me they are similar in the fact that they both can consistently put me in that **MagicalTrance** to this day k i am ramblin too much sorry Thank YOU for making my day **Brighter** **RockON!!!**
