Magic in the Greco-Roman World involved everything from spells for wrecking chariots and sending dreams, to curse tablets and expelling daemons.
Divination through animal signs and tales of statues of the gods coming to life was also a rich part of the magic of antiquity.
Greco-Roman Magic was greatly influenced by Near Eastern civilizations. Cross-cultural melting pots such as the city of Alexandria allowed many of the magical techniques and formulae to become widespread and take on similarities throughout the Roman Empire.
There were legends of mystical figures predicting the demise of Roman Emperors and combating everything from vampires to evil demons.

The channel "Formscapes" also talks about a lot of these things, trying to rationalize a metaphysical explanation for psychic phenomena and other mysteries which our modern mechanical-materialist worldview doesn't adequately explain. He mainly discusses Rupert Sheldrake's theory of Morphic Resonance, which posits a panpsychist worldview where a mental field permeates all of reality. The memories and future possibilities contained within this mental field act sorta similar to Platonic forms, guiding the self-organization of matter into complex structures. This may also entail a sympathetic connection between things based on whether they share similar forms/memories, similar to many conceptions of magic. I think there is a lot of similarities to what you're trying to get at here.

Prayer, while often utilizing the same faculties of the soul, is not a type of magick. Prayer is more akin to supplication while magick is more like placating demonic forces. Listen to the Lord of Spirits podcast for further elaboration on the topic

Finally! An answer to the sex magic! I’m actually about to start making videos myself about the history of combat and it’s spiritual significance and the more mystical/magical aspects of it. I’ve been a combat sport athlete my entire life, my father started teaching me to box very shortly after I started to walk, because I use to walk around with hardcover picture books and hit him with them and then scream at the top of my lungs to force him to read to me. I was an absolute menace. So he thought I needed a more productive outlet for all that fire and energy. I picked up wrestling around the age of 7-8 in my local youth program and I continued that through high school where I won a state title my senior year after finishing second in the state tournament my junior year. I wasn’t as good at wrestling as I was a boxing and kickboxing though, by the time I graduated high school I had already been winning regional Muay Thai, kickboxing and boxing tournaments. I won a city savate tournament right after I graduated high school as well. Since then I’ve picked up some judo and jujitsu as well and done some catch wrestling to add some submission work to my freestyle background. Combat is my entire life, I learned fencing and kendo in my twenties, I know how to ride horses and I’ve been a bow Hunter since I was 10 when my grandfather taught me. Our people need to embrace the warrior spirit of their ancestors and stop being so complacent and allowing the worst humans on the planet decide the course of action of the entire human race and the destiny of our species. Together we can overcome their deceit and subjugation and find our place in the sun.

I should probably address the concept that a lot of people know by the name of “martial mind;” it’s when everything slows way down when you’re fighting and you can almost see what you’re opponent is going to do next before they even know what they’re going to do. It’s truly a spiritual experience, I’ve never felt as close to the grand architect as I do when I’m in a fight and my body just takes over as my conscious mind goes silent. It’s like an epiphany. I had an accident with pain killers a few years back after a car accident and I actually flatlined for a little bit before the brought me back, I’m a firm believer in the afterlife and in a grand architect responsible for this beautiful universe that we live in. Yes life isn’t always easy, but it is always worthwhile, even when it hurts. I have what’s known as an eidetic memory, and ever since I was brought back from that flatline I’ve had these… experiences, which I can only describe as ESP. I see things before they’ll happen sometimes, and i‘ll be able to predict what someone is about to say on a ridiculously frequent basis, it freaks people out, even the ones that are really close to me get a little unnerved when I bring up the subject that they’re thinking about silently in their head. It’s actually one of my favorite things though, it keeps me connected to that feeling I had when I was one with the grand architect when I was dead.

Simon Magus IS Simon Cephas, they’re the same guy; Simon bar Giora. The Simon Magus persona was one given to him by the Roman government and Universal Religion to discredit his teachings as sorcery was really looked down upon in second temple period Judaism during the Jewish-Roman war. Simon bar Giora is also Simon the Zealot, they’re all the same historical person, he minted these coins when he had control of Jerusalem that said “Redemption of Zion” on them, he was the son of the historical Jesus; Judah Thaddeus, called Theudas by Josephus, Judah Thaddeus is the brother of Jacob Zadok (James the Just) and son of Judah of Galilee, head of the Sicarii (Judas Escariat). Simon was really close with this woman name Helena of Adiabene who was a queen who had been sold into slavery in a brother in Tyre and was liberated by Judah Thaddeus and his family. She is the historical basis for Mary Magdalene. You have to know about Saul of Tarsus’ naming conventions and how he subverted the story of this family that he hunted down and executed with the aid of his Roman backers. Simon Bar Giora literally means Simon the Strong. He had another nickname though; Rock of Moses, or Cephas. Simon Peter is Simon Magus. Cephas translated is Peter. You have to take the early Christians with several tons of salt. Titus Flavius Clemens was the cousin of the Emperor Domitian, who even adopted his sons and made them his heirs. The “Christians” (Christianity was the Flavian Imperial Cult) weren’t persecuted because of their faith, they were killed because they tried to pull a coup to get Clemens’ sons on the throne when he was Pontifex Maximus of the Imperial Cult. He was also a Consul.

3:25 well, Magic was anything that people didn’t understand. You should look up the Hittite site of Yazilikaya, it was amazingly accurately aligned to celestial events, the Hittites were the best astronomers of their era. I’m so amazed by our ancient ancestors, anyone who had knowledge beyond the norm could play that knowledge off as magical.

Good video on the topic. But I'm surprised there was no mention of the sorcerer-saint, Cyprian of Antioch -- including his infamous dealings with the Christian virgin woman, Justina. A favorite figure of mine, who rivals the magical career of Simon Magus.

Thanks! That would have certainly fit into the theme. I do not possess Prudentius’ writings or St. Gregory’s. Are they the earliest sources on Cyprian of Antioch? If you know the specific texts that tell the story please put them in the comments. 🤝🏽

In Chronicon by isidore of Seville, the account of Simon and Peter is accounted for but he got a different explanation of the acts in such encounter I quote "In his times, Simon Magus was reported to have had an altercation with the apostles Peter and Paul. Claiming that a certain great power that he had came from God, he proposed at midday to fly to the Father in heaven with the help of demons, by whom he was to be born aloft. But, with Peter swearing at the demons and Paul praying, Simon was cast down and he crashed. Because of Simon's death, Peter was crucified by Nero and Paul was killed with a sword."

I consider myself a sorcerer and sorcery is basically wild Magick , You don't necessarily follow any ordained path or order. You absorb information from many sources casting aside the rough for the diamonds to be found. I've seen magick do some truly amazing things, magick is really a personal thing it's never going to be some big showy spectacle that everyone can point at, unless they're part of the ritual & abide by the five keys.
