Ok actually I have been thinking about this and wow. I didn't really know about the Rolex business and the bespoke suits but now that I have explored this a bit further, I cannot believe the hypocrisy. Against business and living the life of a CEO. It would not be a problem at all to earn that Rolex and proudly wear it. But to advocate socialism while profiting from opportunities of a capitalist society is so bloody hypocritical it is making Trudeau look better!
Corporations have only a fiduciary duty to extract as much wealth as possible, in this rigged system, and the ability to loan as much or more than the market will bare! Brian Mulroney's removal of the reserve requirement in fractional reserve lending, allows unlimited amounts of loans chasing too few homes! But the budget will never balance itself, so why not use the budget as a tool to balance the economy?

Farming is a very gas intensive process, carbon tax absolutely pushes food prices up. Grocery stores operate on profit margins, which are percentages above the cost of a product. When food costs increase then so too does the mark up. A loaf of bread that costs a store $2 and they want to make 20%, would have a price tag of $2.50. This yields the store 50 cents. If the cost of the loaf goes up to $2.40, then the new price tag is $3 and yields the store 60 cents. Simple math. In Jagmeet's world, he would like to see the stores lower their profit margin so they only make the same profit on a higher cost of goods, thereby lowering their return on investments. SO yes, the grocery stores are going to make more money as the cost of goods goes up, because they expect a certain % return on their investments. They way he describes it here makes it sound like some guy is just sitting in an office, randomly raising prices. As cost goes up, prices goes up, and so does profit.
I wonder if Mr. Singh knows how retail business works? Most business sets their profit margin as a percentage (lets use 15% as an example), so if the "cost" of a product goes up (due to inflation, rising transport cost, etc) then so does your profit. Its pretty simple math. Old cost $1.00 + 15% = $1.15 New cost $1.10 + 15% = $1.26 Multiply that by millions of transactions and you have a huge jump in profits by changing nothing in your business model. I work at a small business and we saw an increase by doing nothing different... I support the NDP but I do not support the sensationalism represented here. I would like to ask Mr. Singh to offer solutions and a game plan to make things better instead of just complaining and causing division like his political counterparts. If you want to win you have to be better than the other choices, not just throw school yard accusations and half truths.

I don’t believe a wealth tax will work, the wealthy already get out of paying a lot of taxes now. What I believe would be better would be to have a minimum tax percentage and reduce deductibles. A minimum wouldn’t effect the middle class or poor since we don’t have enough deductions to make a difference anyway.
If you wanted to really drive out the Liberals, why doesn't NDP work with the Conservatives. I would like to see both parties points of view combined into one because they are all relevant and indeed in much needed of change. I accept both parties points of views and each concern is very valid. Come together and work together to meet an overall agreement for the people of Canada. Together with both Jagmeet (his party) and Pierre (his party) seem very intelligent gives more power, knowledge, skillsets to fight against the Tyranny. Come to a common ground as you both speak about how you have the people's interest at heart. Show us what both parties can do together to start fixing the economy and give Canadian's some hope.
Whataboutism on his brother doesn't make Jagmeet's point less true. Economic populism drives both the right and the left because it speaks to an issue that fuels people - economic security. Also, Jagmeet's brother is a private citizen. Family members of politicians in all parties are accosted by lobbyists and special interests all vying for a chance at the politician's ear. Are you telling me you wouldn't capitalize on people throwing themselves at you if you were his family member? I know I would. And even then, this is not the same as a politician actually giving in to those special interests for donations, like a certain ONT Premiere trying to privatize Canadian health care atm.
