Turkish and Greek cuisine share many more similar traits than just similar names; in fact, the two cuisines are remarkably similar. Whether it’s dolma in Turkish or dolmades in Greek, both cuisines share a fascinating journey into the senses with a variety of scrumptious food. Elements of both cuisines are a mixture of our historic relationship and the geography we share. Love from Turkey 🇬🇷🇹🇷
Hi Joseph Kalendersøn, thanks for watching and commenting! We always love hearing from viewers who like us believe that food should bring us together rather than divide us. There's enough going on in the world that does that. Totally agree with your comment- we love seeing the way food morphs and changes across modern borders and the way history is reflected in food cultures. Thanks for watching and commenting- we're in Turkey right now- so hope you enjoy the content we have coming up from here! Cheers, Sheena
@@thenin4e common foods between turkey and Hellas come from byzantium....you come from asian steps..asians dont eat dolmades yogurt and baklava...in Hellas we call this cuisine politiki from konstantinopole..turks were nomads.nomads dont eat those foods..
You’re so lucky. So much great food and brilliant ingredients. We hope you enjoyed this video and the rest of our videos from Athens. Thanks so much for watching. Cheers, Thomas 😀
People in Greece consume coffee more than any country... Greeks drink coffee in the morning!! Always! And the afternoon after lunch.. Also in Greece don't eat food unless they have salad on the table😂 Btw, next time you must visit a Greek island or Thessaloniki... (cities with perfect food)😃 Greetings from Greece! ♡
Hi Eleni Lazaridou, they totally do- we often wondered how Greeks can ever get to sleep with so much caffeine being consumed 😂 One freddo espresso in the afternoon would have me up until 3am! Can't wait to see more of Greece on our next visit! Thanks for watching and commenting, hope you enjoy the rest of our Athens videos. Cheers, Sheena

Seems like he's the only bougatsa baker in all of Athens. 😂 Super popular place to film. The loukániko at the end looks perfect. Awesome start to the new series. 👍
🤣 he was actually our second choice- our first choice turned out to be an hour and a half out of the city and we ran out of time! It was hard to find places where the bougatsa is being made for the public to see 😄 oh my goodness that sausage was one of the best sausages I’ve ever eaten- we’re still talking about it 😆 thanks for watching and commenting Tosh! Cheers, Sheena
Hi Shay Daoud, thanks for watching and commenting! That little spot is wonderful- great atmosphere and I seriously still dream about that sausage we ate 🤤 hope you enjoyed this video and like the rest of the series. Cheers, Sheena

I grew up in an area with a large Greek population... All of what you had brings back such great food memories! My maid of honor (1974) was Greek, and her mother made the most amazing honey and walnut cake! It was very rich but it was heavenly I know you say you’re not big on sweets but if you see it while there ,you have to try it!!
It sounds incredible SaRaH Kruch! What a combo! 😍 popping it on the list for next time as we’re now in London! Hope this series continues to bring back loads of delicious food memories! Thanks for watching and commenting 😄 Cheers, Sheena
Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena the nuts are finely ground and are in every bite !the honey is poured over the cake and allowed to soak in . It is by far They most moist cake I have ever eaten.
If I may, a bit of a friendly advice.. In Greece we always drink iced coffee with a straw. Nonetheless, I loved your video. Keep going you guys. 🇬🇷💙💗💗💗
Hi Antonia Marini, thanks for watching and we’re so glad you enjoyed this video! Ah yes, we know the local way is to use a straw but we try and do our best to avoid straws where possible- to help out the environment 😄🌍 Hope you like our other Athens videos! Cheers, Sheena

In my country Algeria (in North Africa) we make those meat balls with fish meat usually with Sardine meat and we make a sauce and then we cover them with the sauce and then we use Kisra( traditional bread) and dip in it. The whole dish is called Kefta. 14:49 seeing these made me want some Kefta.
😍😍😍😍 that is so interesting The cutest!! When we were in Sicily we had sardine meatballs- I bet that’s from the North African influence! @@ChasingaPlate 1st day done, and solo traveller so even better, no sharing!😂. Had the sand smelt and multiple Gyros so far. Bougatsa Thessaloniki is tomorrow mornings destination. X
@@ChasingaPlate love how the city looks, grungy mixed with clean, the past blended with the modern. And the energy reminds me of london, not to mention scooters, people, bicycles and cars everywhere. And will be eating everything in sight, hope they dont want to put me in the cargo hold on the way home😂
All the baked good looked yummy, but the mezze really gets the ball rolling for me. That's my style of eating! Like Turkish breakfast, lots of different flavors and textures, to mix and match, combine or enjoy solo. I'd never heard of the fava dip before...thought it was hummus. That and the tomato-cucumber salad have my mouth watering! Can't wait to see what other goodies you've found for us in Athens!
Hi MsKestrela, thanks for watching and commenting mate! Fava is like the hummus of Greece- it’s on every Mezze menu. We’re massive fans of eating that way too- exactly like Turkish breakfast! Love how you can take your time and just graze. 😍 hope you enjoy the rest of the series 😄 Cheers, Sheena

Bougatsa mmm anything stuffed with semolina or marzipan in pastry has got to be good anytime of the day. The Peinirli looked similar to a Pide and similar fillings, great choice of fillings. Loved the bakery being as is nothing flashy, it shows they concentrate on one style and do it well! The Cafe Greg recommended (and great little find) on the Mezze plate the Loukaniko must try was it served with a mustard similar to other European sausages, l noticed you only popped on fresh lemon but could see a splodge of yellow on the plate? Looked sensational in cross section!! In Australia Fava beans are commonly known as Broad Beans. Can you suggest what canned bean l might use in Oz to give that a crack and lm definitely going to make the Fetta dip. Great Summery fresh meal. Thankyou.
I’m so glad Greg told us that no matter what we had to eat loukaniko in Greece. And I’m so glad that Avli just happened to do an amazing version! Yes that was mustard 😄 it went really well with the sausage. Maybe canned lima beans as a substitute if there are no tinned broad beans? Thanks for watching and commenting on this one Brilliant But Blue. Cheers, Sheena
@@ChasingaPlate: Yeah there is no canned Broad Beans, the texture of it looked very Lima bean/Butter Bean and Lima Bean used alot in Greek Cooking so perfect thanks.
The only depressing thing about visiting Greece is that when you leave you remember that you leaving the food behind you. As a greek living in the Nethelands for the last yeah, teleportation can't come fast enough.

The first simple cheese patty did not impress me at all. But those butter football pastries with beef and sausage look to die for! That sausage looks smoked on your spread, is it? Also looks delicious! 🤤
Omg the sausage was incredible- it’s one of the best things I’ve eaten this year! Not smoked but so full of flavour and very juicy. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! Thanks for watching and commenting 😘 Cheers, Sheena

Nobody can deny greek cuisine has turkish tastes. The words they use for dishes are turkish. We still love you neighbours for tasty dishes. You are the best in europe
very friendly, but the tastes are byzantines or older greeks, you gave names at old greek dishes, and the names stays, and sweets come from Moroko, Egypt etc, and othomans use them. Google Byzantine recipes. Its like coffee, you say turkish coffee we say Greek coffee but the coffee is Aithiopian and Yemen... Every one use names to proof "this is mine" And Instambul and angara are Greek words but they are not ours. Words proof nothing. If a dish is taste i do not care if its from Mars, or moon! Cheers
you see how the guy made the dough for boughatsa... they got places where they sprinkle feta and fould and that is the originial bourek... ottomans just changed it up a bit...
really nice video. It makes us greeks, she greece through a different perspective. Where do you get your go-to ideas from? do you ask the locals or do you come prepared and well read?
