PROMETHEUS AND THE CREATION OF MANKIND When Zeus tasked Prometheus and Epimetheus to create beings to inhabit the world, Epimetheus made a fundamental mistake that cost Prometheus his freedom. And Zeus shows he is not just a god, but a wrathful king when pushed to it. PATREON: patreon.com/user?u=83558783 Living Mythology is an attempt to entertain, relax and educate all in the one place. We are trying to forge narratives so that people can experience the religions and mythologies of the world as they were meant to be. Not as dry academic monoliths, but as living breathing tales and parables as experienced by the peoples who worshipped these beings, in an attempt to make sense of their own lives and the world around them. This channel is in its infancy, so we hope to improve and develop it as we gain more experience. All of the tales are taken from very conflicting traditions across many centuries, so there will be many a moment when decisions need to be made to create a more cohesive narrative. If we present something that seems to be in contrast to details, rest assured we have researched many forms of the traditions and come to the conclusions we have done to form the videos. There will NEVER be total agreement on any of these narratives due to the history and differing ways they developed over the centuries. These videos are for entertainment and an easy gateway to the subject. If you wish more academic details then please direct your attention to the wide source material and others who perform those types of academic video essays. The love Prometheus has for us, his great work, is truly amazing. The fact that he knew from the start that he would punished for stealing the fire and giving it back to Man, and doing it anyway. We owe so much to our Father's love, bravery, and sacrifice. And I also love that Athena was supportive of him, and stood aside when she caught him. She's always appreciated our capacity for wisdom.
I'm glad you enjoyed our tale! It's good to hear our version is appreciated! Prometheus is a fun tale - and he pops up again a few times! And Athena is involved in the creation of man in some myths and their were close associations between the two deities. I believe prometheus didn't have temples, but had a shrine of sorts in Athens, one of Athena's cities. It's fun to include details that represent the info we can't include in a story format. Thank you for watching! - Lightbringer
The mythology can’t decide if all these creatures already existed “on their plane” or whether they were new considering they had transformed into many of the “new” animals with the 🦉 bit obviously heavily laden in meaning.
This story has fundamentally changed the way I see Prometheus and Epimetheus entirely. They are not just forethought and afterthought. Both represent the best and worst aspects of being a father, mother, or guardian raising children. Prometheus, being forethought, is patient, wise, and calculating, seeing an infinite potential within infinite future possibilities. But he is slow to act as a result of always looking to the future. Because of this, his creations, while complex, are lacking critical survival needs. As such, his "children" are nearly helpless without the gift of fire, and are unable to properly survive without it. Epimetheus, being afterthought, is impulsive, reckless, and daring, seeing infinite beauty and wonder within the present moment. But he is too quick act as a result of always living in the present. His creations can survive without dependence on external forces. But they will never achieve any sort of development beyond immediate survival needs as they lack complexity. If you combine both of their gifts into one child, nothing would be beyond their abilities. They can survive in the moment and properly defend themselves physically when danger presents itself. But they can also learn and adapt when they are physically outclassed and retain that knowledge for future use. When I listened to your story and the fate of Prometheus, it is exactly what the actions of a father would be. There is no punishment or pain they wouldn't suffer to give their children a future. As always, you continue to outdo yourselves. Keep up the good work. 🤠 P.S Zeus is a petty asshole 😂
Zeus was right, that way why he sent both prometheus and epimethues, to mask out each other weaknesses, but still prometheus with all his fore thought was hindered by his feelings
As far as I know, Prometheus does get freed by Heracles eventually. Which as titan of forethought, he probably knows. Imagine the smug look on his face when he tells Zeus that everything went all according to plan.
‘But I will stand before you again Zeus, this is not the end’ - Prometheus will pop up again for sure my friend :) And perhaps be a little smug 😂 - Lightbringer
Yep, Prometheus is the one god that actually looked out for us at the start in Greek Mythos. I have a fondness for the Gods in any mythology that like and help humans, cause Humans mostly won't. Great episode as always, keep up the good work. :)
Don’t say humans, say man. Because he did reject the first woman and advised his brother to do so as well even though his brother insisted accepted the first woman, Pandora crafted by Hephaestus and gifted by all the Gods
Awesome! I can't wait for Pandoras Box. Also since spring time is on its way it would be amazing to hear the myth of Persephone, My favorite myth of them all.
I appreciate that this not only tells the story but expands on it in its own way. So many just repeat the common way of telling it but legends and myths are meant to be retold by a story teller and not a single script :)
We are trying to continue the oral tradition of mythology and legends! Thank you for watching, we’re trying to give it a new twist - it’s the same tales but with more details and emotion than the usual rehashing of events ! We try to put some life back into the old stories!
This is the most incredible mixed media presentation on the Greek mythology EVER PRODUCED! I am almost sad I couldn’t watch these as a child because these exact videos were everything I wanted to hear ANd more. Legitimately stunned by the titanomamchy in its total complexity and completeness.
My goodness it’s lovely to hear it’s everything you want! We made them because we wanted something like this in the world - it’s great to find people who share our love of mythology and like our stories of it! Thank you my friend ! We hope you stick around and enjoy the tales to come! - Lightbringer
I never realized how much Zeus hated/disliked mankind! How so very different from our Heavenly Father: "For behold, this is my work and my glory-to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." Moses 1:39 Thank you both for this great telling!
Well at this time we were nothing more then exhibits at a zoo to them.. Something to be viewed and throw peanuts.. Two primitive to offer meaningful worship or veneration and add in that we symbolize the defiance of Prometheus.. Not to mention we seem to hold the attention of the various minor gods/goddesses & so instead of praising Zeus they were looking at us.. Kings hate it when they aren’t the center of attention when they want it..
😂 zeus is the heavenly father. Jove, jehovah, Jupiter, yahweh, zeus, deus pater (sky father), yahoo, yahoo, enlil, they're diff names for the same guy. All sons of the same guy, El/Saturn/kronos. Prometheus oc is lucifer, zeus's adversary, which is why the greek theologically based christians use him as the adversary to yahweh. In judaism, the shatan is Samael, but the christians chose the adversary of jupiter
This feels like the end... I feel like a kid at the end of the party...I know another video will drop eventually, but the previous videos have been such a fully immersive narration/voice acting that I truly feel like something is being taken away from me. For all the people, I, a humble servant, DEMAND more fantastic, amazing, wonderful videos from Baldy and LightB. WE NEED MORE!!!! WE NEED MORE!!!! Excellent job Baldy family. You know it is a "job well done" when your fans walk out of the theatre thirsting for another round.
I know you've probably have been asked this an infinite amount of times, but I would love to see and hear what you would do with "The Silmarillion". Your word construction is one to be envied, my dear. Fantastic job!
Thank you so much, again my friend! You flatter us haha - We love lord of the rings and the works of J.R.R. Tolkien but there would probably be some copy right issues haha. So we shall stick to mythology for now but maybe some day... One can dream - Lightbringer
When you run out of greek stories I bet you could have a lot of fun with the norse ones, lots of humour in them. I would love to see some of your interpretations of old testament stories too, but I can understand if you're a bit hesitant to go with the stories of living religions.
Prometheus gives Fire and knowledge to Mankind Humanity: Thanks Prometheus (Prometheus getting punished) 🤕 Humanity: (killing each other with fire over said knowledge, destroying and hoarding it) Prometheus: 😞
The ancients i think didnt knew that one makes fire in wild by friction of two stones, or simply by the sun... but fine allegory anws... love the way its been told ❤
Watching this a second time... idk why i feel like crying at the creation part.. nothing to do w what will come ❤ one of my fav myths indeed (& creation stories) ... feeling so emotional ❤❤❤
NEW VIDEO WOOHOO! Can't wait to watch after work! Edit: And of course it was incredible! Thank you for continuing to make these works of art, Lightbringer and Baldermort!
Thank you for this. I really do get a deeper perspective for the stories of old. Not just good v evil but circumstances playing out over time. The only injustice is how your channel does not have more subscribers
I watched this because when I was born, Mercury was a morning star making it Promethean, which gives it the nature of eager Gemini, that of forethought. I tend to be more future-oriented in my thinking. Mercury is your mind. 🌑🧠🙂 If Mercury was an evening star when you were born, it is Epimethean, giving it the nature of certain Virgo, which is associated with afterthought. I have liver disease and my brother's a Virgo.
In hindsight. Epemiphius's 'squandering' the gifts perhaps was a blessing. Zeus would not be threatned by these creatures. There was no reasonable way for them to challenge the God's supremacy. Mimic yes, but surpass? Not without intervention from other divinities. And that is why they make the best games pieces. In the hands of haphistus this or that person might be a forger of renown, or someone who takes haphistus's creations and makes use of them. A champeon of athena might bea great hero, or a doctor, or a general. In this we are still very much the clay we were made from. And yet even wit hthis Zeus felt utterly betrayed by promethus's stealing of fire and shows in spite of everything. In spite of all the lessons and trials. He is still his father's son and this gives great context for the 'why' of prometheus's punishment. Sacraficial law had been made and zeus had seemingly been tricked in a bid to allow his creations to live and then when zeus repaid this 'trick' prometheus without hesitation akd knowing damned well what would happen. Defied his lord to ensure they would live. Bless you for bringing these stories to life. my niece loves them.
this is my favorite story, ranking only second behind the aeneid. That might be an interesting avenue to explore later on? tell of the fall of troi, one perspective dem filthy greeks, then switch and tell it from the roman perspective, maybe even some named character, or do what you do best and create your own narrative. mythology with you lots as VAs is absolute bliss
Zeus: prophecy says a son will be stronger then me and will overthrow me.. it happened to both my father and grandfather.. Gaia: How bout you Just try and be a Good father & husband.. Zeus: That’s absurd, that will never work grandmother.. Besides I am the best father, look at Athena.. Now I got to go punish Prometheus for loving his mud children..
Unrelated, but when you do an episode on the minotaur, im just saying Iv had Icarus melting tattooed on my entire forearm for 12 years. I lived up to it, leveled out before I burned anymore than I had.... Because I assume your preamble will include the building of the labyrinth. Or something of the sort.
And so the man of power the tyrant and king does what he doesn't want to do for fear of losing his power. Reminds me of an other tale... one about a ring that grants you enormous power but makes you a slave, a thinned out wraith, not your self anymore. What does it help a man if he wins the world if he loses hos soul.
@@baronghede2365 ok im probably wrong but it feels like somehow Jesus could had been associated with a great solar deity and linked with maybe Prometheus.
The mythology can’t decide if all these creatures already existed “on their plane” or whether they were new considering they had transformed into many of the “new” animals with the 🦉 bit obviously heavily laden in meaning.
I don't blame Zeus for what he did, we humans can make a mess of things especially with fire, but neither did Prometheus. I see it as a father choosing his children above all else and a king that deals the hand he is dealt
I have a personal theory that because of Iapetus. Prometheus, Epimethus and their brothers Represent the four aspects of mortality. Spirit, Soul, Body and mind
What a story, why would ancients invent such stories of a god wanting the best of the meats just to taste n such? Ith they had some problems 😂 ... & loved drammas as we do nowadays...
Hey there - I have included some primary sources below, but Athena is mentioned in many versions of the tale. From just the fact that it is called Hephaestus and Athena's forge/workshop - To versions where it is Prometheus and Athena who are ordered to make man together. Or the versions where Zeus commands Athena to 'give it life' - it is repeated in tales of Pandora - where Hephaestus makes Pandora out of mud and Athena breathes life into it. But also there are rare versions of the tale where Prometheus was in love with Athena and that is part of why he is punished, interested but not included in many versions. So including Athena in part of the creation process - is a slight nod to the references and different versions that include her, for one reason or another. Besides we're storytellers! Hoping to tell a great story! Mythology has so many different versions of events - sometimes we have to pick and choose and not everyone is happy and that's okay! We just hope you enjoy it and go and research more myths ! I hope this helps! [sources- Apollod. i. 7. § 1; Ov. Met. i. 81; Etym. @@livingmythology1405 this is a huge help thank you so much, I've been digging for a while and haven't found any clues about this before. I am also curious, who bestowed fire to mankind in the first place and how? I know Zeus took it away from mankind after the trick at Mecone, but who gave it to humanity in the first place? Are there any sources you have come across that mention this?
Perhaps because they are all from the same source. Humans. Our tales of caution or tales of morality all have similar cores - be kind to one another and be good. We aren't so different from one another really. For we are all just humans - Lightbringer
