My family walked across the dangerous wild countryside way back during the Gold Rush and one of my ancestors became a Cavalry officer in Arizona before the Civil War. We kids, born in the 1950's, all learned how to deal with the hot desert summers: do everything at sunrise and sunset if you work out of doors! Back in the 1950's people had 'swamp boxes' that worked fine except in July and August. Air conditioners made it possible to live in the Southwest but it makes people weak and helpless. You get used to the heat if you are exposed! Live in temperatures more like in Wisconsin, you never get used to heat! I had no air conditioners when I lived in Tucson and could run about even in summer (with a hat, of course!) due to being used to the heat. I could go many hours with no water and indeed, never carried water when I did my running around or biking all over the place! The pioneers in Tucson, who were near or over 100 years old, back when I was young, never noticed the heat, they were totally used to it. PS: Do NOT wear little clothing, dress like an Arab, have something very loose over the body!
