Could the upstart Packers pull off the upset against San Francisco? This was one of the more intense games to watch from the 1989 season.

Thank you for this video. I LOVE watching oldee games. I am a Packers fan but I am also a flat out FOOTBALL FAN. I love watching old games with past icons. Bradshaw, Stabler, B.Sanders, Tarkenton, Payton, Starbauch, T.Dorsett, Dickerson, and so many more. Too many to list. I remember Thanksgiving's past. Watching football with Grandpa and Dad. The Packers vs. Lions occasionally. The Cowboys always. But it was always FUN. Then the FEAST and the nap.....LOL. I lost my family to illness. My Mom to emphysema, my Dad to cancer. My Grandpa had a heart attack on a Saturday. Nov. 13, 1982. I try not to dwell on what I have lost. I try to look at what I have. So this Thanksgiving I am going to binge watch some older football games, then watch a present game or two. Then another classic game and just remember the people I love and miss so much. Happy Thanksgiving to EVERYONE. MERRY CHRISTMAS❄⛄🎄🎅🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁💝 And 🎈🎉HAPPY NEW YEAR🎊🎈 TO EVERYONE AS WELL. LET'S HOPE IT'S BETTER THAN THIS ONE. STOP THE INSANITY PLEASE.

and Favre would use that same audible (same west coast offense play against the same defensive look the Broncos had in the 89 Super Bowl albeit with a different audible name) to get a touchdown against the Patriots in Super Bowl 31. He played the same west coast offense with Mike Holmgren as his coach who came from the 49ers as a qb coach and offensive coordinator.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Philadelphia Eagles game were edge of your seat excitement. The Green Bay Packers make a visit to the stick for the first time since 1974 in which the 49ers beat them. 49ers 7 Packers 6. The Packers made their first visit to the stick on November 26th. 1973 on Monday Night Football, 49ers 20 Packers 6. Their last visit was in 1970 at the old Kezar Stadium in Golden Gate Park. 49ers 26 Packers 10.

Just as a neutral observer, if I could change two outcomes in NFL history, they'd be: a.) Miami over New England in the '85 AFCCG. We were robbed of an epic Bears-Dolphins rematch. Imagine how the narrative changes on Marino if he manages to beat the Bears twice and grab a ring. Imagine how uncontroversial the Bears would be as a choice for Greatest Team Ever if they manage to adjust the 46 Defense and avenge their only loss. b.) Bengals over Vikings in the final game of the season on Monday night. It knocked the Bengals out of the playoffs (as an Ohio sports fan, okay, I'm a little less than neutral on this) and put the Vikings in, which knocked the Packers out. It's hard to imagine now but the Packers were completely lost in the wilderness basically from when Lombardi retired until Favre became QB. One-season wonders or not, it would have been a lot of fun to see the Majik Man and the Cardiac Pack in the postseason that year, back when that was actually a novelty. (And of course, on a personal level, C. would be the Browns not choking the AFCCG in '86. I don't think the Browns beat the Giants, but it was the best Browns team since at least '64 if not the Otto Graham years and it would have been nice to at least have a shot at it.)

SingleTax it was that torn rotator cuff against the (I think) Cardinals. If he hadn’t gotten injured, he might have been something special. But I’m not sure if it would have been in Green Bay. After they fired Infante, they brought in Mike Holmgren. And with Holmgren, came the West Coast Offense. And if you watch Majkowski trying to play the West Coast Offense, he’s terrible. He couldn’t adapt. Maybe he could have been something somewhere else with a team that didn’t use the West Coast Offense, but definitely not in Green Bay if they got Holmgren.

The Packers opening drive in this game stands in stark contrast to the Bronco's opening drive in Super Bowl XXIV. In this game, the Packers immediately established the run and utilized Majkowski's running ability to score a touchdown. In the Super Bowl, Denver opened with three straight incomplete passes. That was a questionable strategy, because Denver had a terrific young running back in Bobby Humphrey, and Elway was a great runner himself.

One of the highlights for me was the ref's asking the 9er D to help quiet the crowd so Majik could call his plays. Hah! We were so innocent back then. Never knew Candlestick could be that loud. The Minnesota Vikings won the NFC Central Division crown in 1989, by virtue of a better division record than the Packers. The Vikings were 6-2, while the Packers were 5-3. But if you google the 1989 NFL season and look at the standings, the Packers are shown as having won the division. At first I couldn't figure it out, but then I realized that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were in the NFC Central in 1989, and that's what probably confused the computer algorithm into awarding the division title to the Packers. You see, the Buccaneers are currently in the NFC South, which would now make them out of division opponents. The Packers were 1-1 against the Bucs in 1989, while the Vikings were 2-0 against them, thus giving the division to the Vikings. But the Packers were 10-4 against the Conference, while the Vikings were 8-4. Which means under the NFL's current configuration and rules, the Packers would win the division title.

@cpk1994 Packers won by a field goal. It did have an effect, because from that point on both teams play differently indicative on the score. Especially in a tight game. Maybe Majikowski doesn’t get hurt as well. I worry that if the Packers were more successful during the Infante era, maybe Favre and Holmgren don’t come in 92. Could be disastrous if they’re not bad enough to get Infante fired. I’ve kind of thought it would make more sense in the long run to instead pick Derrick Thomas since Deion would have left and they couldn’t have picked Aikman.

ProfessorB Media Until the 1995 Divisional Round. And the 96 Divisional Round. And the 97 Championship Round. The 95 49ers would have been back to back champs, but Green Bay said “Nah fam.” I just wish they could have beaten Dallas. I would have rather seen the 49ers or the Packers in the Super Bowl rather than Dallas.

Hilarious at 34:23 . Fouts: That should say 8-3 for Minnesota, instead of 7-4. Stockton: That's right Minnesota... Fouts: Beat Philly, yeah. Stockton: Minnesota should be 8-3...but Philadelphia beat Minnesota...that's why it's...correct.
