I love the respect here for personal decisions when dealing with our own pets, and you are always just a joy to watch!! I would love a bird, but I know they aren't a good fit for me, so I get my fix watching others with theirs.
I really like the laid back vibe of these videos. Your scripted content is also great, but I like the variety. It really does feel like we just stopped by to say hi and got to hang out with you, Kismet, Ginger, and Maui.
I'm so happy to see that you recommend leaving birds fully flighted if able, its so good for them to fly. I do understand that not all birds can be flighted though.,
I appreciate your opinion on clipping birds. Working at a rescue, I get A LOT of questions and critics thinking it's "cruel" to clip. Believe me, if we could keep all the cockatiels and macaws and our raptors unclipped I would be so happy! However, we have had instances of guys flying away, or crashing and hurting themselves. Some can, and we keep them fully feathered. It's refreshing to hear someone sharing my views. Loved your video as always! Maybe I can do something just like this. It's a dream job for me. Thanks!
Years ago I had a Quaker Parrot that I got very young. When he(?) started testing his wings, I helped him learn to land with a little game where I would gently toss him at his cage with the perch on top and he would land. He loved it and became a master aviator. He didn't crash into things like most pet birds.
I love how Kizmit's quills makes it look like she's wearing a tu-tu. Soooo cuuuuuute. I've been watching a lot of the BirdTricks RU-vid channel lately, which makes me wonder, will you ever (or have you) train any of your birds for free flight outside?
My association with porcupines previously is as quills in dogs and cats. It’s a treat to see how affectionate and beautiful Kismet is. And I have a green cheek conure, so it’s so good to see these two, and to know how different their personalities are. And how they like one another!
Kizmit is a sweet little beauty who looks like she's wearing a very lovely skirt. She's so quiet. Ginger and Maui are sitting as close together as possible -- just adorable! ❤️
Dear Jessi, This may sound a bit oddly silly, but you make me feel so proud of you! This, of course, includes everyone who is/are Animal Wonders. You are one of the best Teachers I have ever seen! Bravo! Bravo! I doubt you realize how much you teach those who watch you! They learn how, to learn, to think, to respect, to care, to love, and to earn these things in return and to love teaching it to others! Truly you are Wonders. This world is a much better place because you are in it... For those you teach and those who will not need to be rescued! Thank You. So, any plans to rescue another African Crested? Problems? Young or older? etc.? Ditto as to the Cheeky ones? Love ya Lady.
Maui & Ginger make me think of Tuca & Bertie, the extrovert and the introvert. So cute! And Kizmit is so adorable too! Thank you so much for sharing all your lovely animal friends with us.
*I remember in grade 2 I went to a girls bday party and she was from Africa and her brother gave me a quill from one of these guys...wish I knew where it went..I had it for years....*
My pineapple conure is in a bonded pair with the non-pineapple one so seeing those two I keep thinking of the ones I deal with. It's interesting to see how different their personalities are, not just between themselves but between the four of them. One of them doesn't like other people too much (beyond the one they chose) but will go on anyone if the other is with him. The other loves almost everyone but loves their chosen human so much more, dropping everything to go to them.
As a African Crested Porcupines Momma I enjoy following your adventures with yours She reminds me so much of my Girl She loves attention and demands it lol . Love that you shared the dog collar idea as She hates a Harness but this She may except and I was thinking of it before I seen your post . This just reassured me it may work 🤣
My green cheek conure, Phoenix is like a mix of Ginger and Maui, he loves cuddles and head scratches, and he also loves to hang upside down on my finger, in his cage, and on towels. I call him bat bird. He also only really likes me, and he just tolerates most other people.
Hi Jessi, I love the rapport you build with the animals at your facilities, you seem like you have so much love for them! I'm wondering if your compassion for animals influences your dietary choices at all. Thanks!
Love the little birdies. Not sure if I'll own any again. But if I do maybe I'll pick something more like these cuties. Had budgies before, one was a great flier, and he would always encourage the other to come fly around, but his friend was a little clutzy so he usually stuck to walking or stay in their cage. I prefer working animals like a cat for catching the occasional mouse or a dog to wander with outside and warn me of larger animals approaching. They were always super happy and seemed more fulfilled with what my family could provide for stimulation.
This video was both educational and Kizmit and Maui and Ginger are absolutely adorable too. And I am a bird owner too (one parakeet) and (one cockatiel). Thanks so much Jessi:)
No job is ever easy. Caring for other loving things as a job must be intense. But you're doing a great thing. Keep having fun with it. It looks like she has a big appetite.
Have you tried giving snow to the animals? Of course just the ones that will not be hurt by it and might enjoy it. Maybe the ravens. When I was little my neighbor raised a crow and when it snowed for the first time it tried to hide a block of snow in the snow. It was looking like it had fun. Maybe the ravens will enjoy snow, too.
