This is the only one Green Day song that constantly gets played on my local radio stations. Not just simply 21 Guns, but this specific version.

2016 and still a fucking masterpiece

I’ve been a big fan since the early 90’s. I’ve tried to avoid this song for a long time though. IDK, hard to explain. My husband and I were both army for many years. Military brought us together and it tore us apart, I was widowed at age 32. The same year my best friend took his last breath in my arms and I was injured in the line of duty. Perhaps I’ve been afraid of the memories and feelings this song speaks to. I know facing what’s difficult is the only way to begin healing. I’m doing ok now, many veterans are not. I’m so thankful that we’re no longer at combat in Iraq, Afghanistan or Syria. After 15 years addressing the disgraceful suicide epidemic in the veteran community is long overdue. 25 veterans die at their own hand daily on American soil due to lack of resources. Thank you Green Day for shining a light and being a voice for those suffering in silence. This masterpiece verbalizes not all injuries are physical for me. I NEEDED to hear this. If anyone reads this please check in with the vets in your life. Many have lost any peer support and are isolated without hope. May sound trivial but reaching out to a veteran absolutely could save a life today. Thank you for reading, my respect and of course ✊🏽 to GD.

This was actually damn good. I dont think I've seen a band cover their own song (except for acoustic versions). I'd almost say this was better than original.

14 years later, my sister and I are listening to this, and still getting goosebumps every 15 seconds. Timeless!

This is the best song from the musical and it's not even close. It gives me chills every time I listen to it, almost like I'm there and living it.

I've seen Green Day live and they're extremely good. No surprise. This song really transcends the pop punk formula they've ridden for decades. This version of 21 Guns take's this whole deal to a whole new level and is in my opinion a great representation of pop punk as art. Pretty frickin' incredible I'd say...

October 1, 2020. I maybe 10 years late. But yes it is the first time i was able to see this. Big green day fan since 2004. I love the original 21 guns, but damn this one is great also. I'm a big metal fan here but, with what's happening now all over the world. The corona virus, natural disasters, countries falling apart. I didn't notice my tears are falling while watching this.... Hope everyone, everything will get better soon.

May get some hate for this but i think i prefer this to the original. There is something about having the depth of that many voices that give the vocals so much power.

this gives me chills. this song really gave me confidence in my singing. my show choir in middle school performed this and I got the beginning solo and I was only in sixth grade. I was so nervous but when I got up there I thought about what makes this song so meaningful and I sang it and there were people in tears. after that, I was so confident and would sing in front of people. And these people are soooo amazing. Love this

green day have been my favourite band for almost 16 years now, i knew about and followed everything to do with the broadway show since it was just a rumour on some message boards, i listened to this song the day it dropped, i bought and wore out the CD, i saw the show when it came to ireland, and STILL this gives me full body chills and a lump in my throat

The original is a great song. This... This is ART. The added key changes at verse 2, the bridge and going into the last chorus bring so much more to the song, and the backing vocals behind the second half of each verse and the sheer passion of the performers elevate this to the level of sheer genius. It misses off the heart-breaking little taunt by "Heather" over the last held chord, but hey, it's punched me in the gut enough times already... The only way to improve on this, IMO, would be to include the guitar solo from the original version after the bridge - although I may be biased because that's what we did when we performed this back in 2019.

My all time favorite song! I can’t believe the we’re is actually missing out on feeling the goosebumps hearing a group of people harmonizing to sing a song with all their hearts, to numbing over choirs these days that are mostly just the computer-altered voices from a single singer layered over one another. I suddenly feel so old and despondent about living this soulless thing we’re calling modern world.

They should do a special quarantine virtual reunion and re record this masterpiece.
