adonate43 and then there's Gerard way who looks like he's still in high school. If only he went back to the punk look. Now that he's a dad he dresses less edgy
Imagine opening your playbill and the little pamphlet falls out saying In tonight's performance, the role of SAINT JIMMY will be performed by BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG
I saw him as St. Jimmy 3 times. Amazing experience. Before the show would start the theater would make an announcement about the emergency exits/ no filming, and then lastly they would say “For this performance, the role of St. Jimmy will be played by Billie Joe Armstrong”. The entire audience started to scream.
1.- he looks REALLY young, and hot 2.- I imagine him saying ¨fuck it! I am Billie Joe fucking Armstrong! and I can play a role I basically created! hell yeah! 3.- can you feel the energy as if you were there?
cause he is st jimmy, if you realize the story of the album american idiot you can tell that jesus of suburbia is billie, jesus then becomes st jimmy, st jimmy is who jesus wanted try to be, so if you look american idiot and what its about you can tell that its a whole story about billie joe armstrong
I feel like he also just majorly downplays himself. He said in the documentary about everyone singing better than him but he's easy one of the best punk singers ever
@@WIBYTIEDH late response but I don't think he's wrong. He sings what he writes well because he's writing for his voice. Everyone else has more extensive and technical training than he has in vocals. That's not to say he's bad, but many others in the cast can sing faster, intenser, and higher than he can. I'm also amazed however that the only complete bootleg of him in the role that exists is so low quality that you can barely make out that it's him
@@anielad8721 its only available through trading musical bootlegs. I'll be honest the video and audio quality is near unwatchable so it's not really worth talking down
Seeing Billie Joe perform this live was one of the greatest moments of my life! I left lectures on Friday, drove 3 hours to the airport, flew out to NYC for the Saturday show, and made it back just in time for class on Monday morning. Best weekend ever.
Everyones talking about Billie but can we all acknowledge how amazing John Gallagher Jr. was? Even if this style isnt his thing, he can do so many things! From Moritz to Johnny!
I'm a male 60 year old, and I'm not gay, but if me and Billie were walking down a Hawaiian beach at sunset and he took my hand, I don't think I'd pull away!
I honestly think that Billie just looks more natural up there than John does. It just seems like Billie is more in character and doesn't seem fake like John seems.
Great video from a great musical. However, I always felt there was something missing about the "no friends, no girls" line. It could be a more truthful depiction of Billie Joe's emotions if it was "NO FRIENDS, NO BREAD... I NEED BOTH."
+Kendrick Anastasia Its because they are musical theater kids so their voices are too perfect to sing punk songs. They don't have the hard scratchy voice the billie has, so they try to mimic it...and the end result is awkward at best
To everyone hating on the broadway cast saying only Billie can sing Green Day songs please stop. He does sing them best because they were literally written for his voice but the broadway cast is good too. They’re just different. I’m sure if they were original and Billie Joe was the cover than you would be saying the same thing about Billies version. I agree that there are just some people that cannot sing certain types of songs (Johnny from the LA version of American Idiot I’m looking at you) but people can sing other peoples songs without it being wrong
Right? Lol watch John playing Moritz singing Don't Do Sadness or listen to his harmonies with Billie. Or Theo singing in Too Much Too Soon, Brian in Touch Me, Stark singing Soul of a Man, etc. Just because they aren't Billie doesn't mean they're bad.
@@ohwow6640 exactly! Singing that much very often takes tolls on ppls voices. Like look at Barrett Wilbert Weed pre and post Heathers. She’s not as strong now. She’s still a great singer with an amazing belt but not nearly as strong as she was before she joined the cast of Heathers Bc she had to belt really high 8 times a week!
Saw this during one of BJA's stints as Jimmy, and his is improbably charismatic onstage. Incredibly magnetic, you absolutely cannot take your eyes off of him.
I like how Jimmy and Johnny occasionally mirror each other's movements since the idea of Jimmy is that he's his drug-dealing rebellious alter-ego, or maybe I'm reading too much into it
